Seriously, why are they pushing this dumb reality show so hard during Blazer games?!?

It's annoying as heck to watch, (especially having to hear about it during post-game and Talkin Ball when I want to hear about the Blazer's victory as much as possible) because stomping ground is so obviously a second-rate show that is desperately scraping for viewers because NO ONE CARES enough to watch a girl cry when she isn't winning a rodeo, just because she has tv cameras on her... At least it was funny tonight on Talkin Ball when Abby Chin(?) tried to promote the show by saying "SEXY, competitive action" and Antonio Harvey down on the other end of the table responded with "...that girl is just not an athlete. The horse is, but not her. She's acting like a sploiled little brat, having expletives bleeped because she didn't perform. If she wants to get mad about her performance, don't blame the horse just perform better!" A-freakin-men, Harvey. Preach it.

Am I alone on this? Do alot of Blazer fans actually watch this craptacular local reality comcast show, and I'm just in a bubble of friends that all happen to passionately dislike it?

What moron in Comcast's office thought to themselves "Hmm, we have a rodeo-based reality show and I want to market it to a larger portland audience, how can we tie this in to another group... OH! BASKETBALL! PERFECT!"

I'm just praying to every god out there that this show does not get picked up for another season.

DOWN WITH STOMPING GROUND. STOP MOOCHING OFF THE BLAZERS.

HAHAHAHA Abby said it again on the next break "tough, SEXY, and competitive"... obviously she's been given specific notes on a lame way to attempt to attract viewers... but once again Antonio Harvey scoffed at the comment she made, and then even Dwight Jaynes through in a mocking "because they're tough, SEXY, and competitive" with some eyebrows and a smile towards Harvey.

Seriously Comcast, get a clue. Your viewers are not the average brainless tv-sponges. We require more from our programming then your pathetic attempts at making dirt and cowgirls into a reality tv show. Try talking to actual Portlanders for your next show, I can think of a DOZEN different subcultures that would be immensely popular compared to this crap.

No kidding Tobyus. When Falling Skies was coming out I was kinda excited to see it, but never made it through a full episode without being disappointed in the production. Spielberg really should be committed to making better work, if just for the value of his reputation.

But thankfully, Falling Skies is not a Comcast show so we don't have to put up with it's relentless promotion during Blazer games!!!
Tell me you agree, right? Cuz seriously, every time I see the commercials and hear that twangy douche sing 'its my stompin my stompin ground' I want to throw something at my tv. I can't find the mute button fast enough. I think I'm scaring my dogs when I start cursing looking for the remote and then everything goes quiet lol...

Wow. Talkin Ball is losing points and FAST.

First, it's become so hollow listening to Abby Chin regurgitate promo points for Stomping Ground.

Now tonight, after we have a HUGE victory in Dallas, huge for LaMarcus, for Raymond, and for Kaleb, over last years champions and Coach of the Year... Abby, Dwight and their guests are literally talking trash about how the Blazers are being overhyped and it's really just because Dallas had an off night. "They're celebrating like it's 1999! Like they won the NBA championship!" Who cares? LET THEM CELEBRATE YOU PESSIMISTIC PUNDIT! This was a huge emotional victory for multiple players and the coach!

I used to love this show. Abby Chin has never really fit. She's not good at faking sincere interest at all. And again, these guests are treating her like it's a second-rate program, laughing at her questions like they're dumb to ask. Lol and now the lady says "Does this team REALLY think it can still make the playoffs?" Do you REALLY think you're a sportscaster?

Lol right Tobyus? Blazers go through all these motions to talk about being eco friendly, and Comcast just goes "HA! Screw you guys, the only green we like is money".

Comcast: your programming sucks. Fire the guy running Talking Ball, fire Abby Chin, and replace both with people who know the Blazers or at least basketball in general (seriously, Abby Chin is that weak). And never allow those two guests in the studio again.

And for the love of everything holy, get rid of Stomping Ground and everything related to it. You can do better than that show even if this was a channel run out of a high school A/V lab.

I am late to the party, but I agree that Stompin Ground is a horrible show.  I haven't even had to watch it to know it was going to be a huge flop.  Do they really think Portland has a bunch of cowboys?

I am so sick of the Wells Fargo commercials too.  I think they have played the same commercials now for three years.

Nothing personal freddead, but I'm pretty sure that Abby Chin being physically attractive and people talking about that, more than the substance of Talkin Ball and Stompin Ground, is exactly what DHawes had to point out was causing problems on the thread.

It's pretty simple: If you guys are looking for eye candy, don't look for it on a wholesome(/"sexy") rodeo show, and especially not on a Blazer show like Talkin Ball. In fact, Comcast has a track record of trying to use over-sexed promotions to sell many of their programs, and I think history shows that it has ALWAYS been a failure. This is NOT SpikeTV, so please stop trying to be. I watch CSN for sports, not pretty women... and if that's the audience you're going after, then your shows have them wearing WAY too many clothes. Pick a direction and go with it, don't try and appeal to both.

It sounds like we all agree that Stompin Ground is a waste of airtime (thank god i'm not alone on that), so let me get back to the point I was trying to discuss originally... DHawes, I promise I'm not trying to be inappropriate about our Talkin Ball hostess, but I hope it's fair for me to criticize what I see as the root problem of a show that I loved... If I cross a line let me know and I will take it back or re-word it so it's more appropriate.

Talkin Ball has gone SERIOUSLY downhill. There are some bright spots still; Antonio Harvey and Chris Haynes can give great analysis for Blazer fans, and Ian Karmel (spelling?) injects just the right amount of comedy while still having some basketball knowledge and passion to build on in the right moments. Dwight and Abby, however, are draggin the entire show into less than mediocrity.

Dwight has reduced himself to just a grumpy, pessimistic, broken record. On either a good or bad night, he just seems to want OUT. He stays out of the conversation except to reject someone else's idea. He makes short statements designed to kill conversations. How is that EVER good for a talk show???
If this is the type of commentator you have on the show, you absolutely NEED a confident, level-headed voice to counter him. Think about Mike n Mike; do you think that many people would really listen to just Mike Rice for a whole show, let alone episode after episode? Of course not, and they wouldn't listen to Barrett alone either, for that matter. But combined, Mike Barrett and Mike Rice are sports-commentator GOLD. As a group, they manage to appeal to multiple sides of being a fan; wanting factual support of a game situation, wanting to hear your hopes are backed by possibility, and still wanting to hear that homer-side in all of us satisfied (thank you, Rice, and Merlin, thank you).

This brings me to Abby Chin. If Dwight is going to be one end of your commentary spectrum (negative, confident, old-school been-there-done-that type), then Abby is simply not going to work as the other end of the desk.

Right now, Abby Chin is a puppet. She is so so lacking in sincerity when she gives her post-game reports, that I think there's legitimate possibility that she has never actually watched a Blazer game in her life... maybe not even a basketball game! If she actually does have any background knowledge in sports, she hides it INCREDIBLY well. I feel sorry for her, really, because she barely wants to be there any more than Dwight does.
The only excuse I can think of for that, is that she is just too green; how long has she been doing this? Does she have experience at this kind of job or is this her first try?
Abby Chin OOZES a lack of confidence even when she's hosting the show with Dwight, Ian, Chris, and Antonio, but then she gets even worse when there's an unfamiliar guest who she doesn't know how to handle! It showed so plainly after the Dallas victory, and she had those two guests who are better-known sports commentators (I don't care to post their names). They treated her like dirt. Interrupting her, making jokes when she was trying to move the conversation along... and worse yet, she began stumbling over her own words and almost mumbling to the others on the show when she had to transition, because she didn't know how to do it smoothly in the conversation.
It's unbelievably aggravating watching her lead a discussion on Blazer hoops, because on any given episode there's no hiding that she is the least knowledgeable (or maybe just the least confident) person on the screen. If Talkin Ball had a live-chat format like BlazerTV does, or even a freakin phone-in number for fans to give questions (instead of handing the mic to children and drunks in the RG after a game, asking the most basic, obvious and useless questions), I believe that she never would have kept the job this long; from what I've seen, she just doesn't have the self-confidence, or respect from her co-hosts, to handle a show that isn't completely scripted.

    Solutions...
For Stompin Ground, it's obvious: GET RID OF IT. There is no other solution to saving your programming. That show is infecting other shows that were actually worthwhile. Get rid of it NOW.

For Talkin Ball, UPDATE IT. It seems like the show faces problems similair to what the Blazers have had; things are slipping from too many different directions, and the people in charge are making changes too slowly. Did you see what the Blazers did to pull themselves out of the hole? They fired the head, got rid of underperforming personalities despite those personalities being veterans and having history/relations here, and buckled down for the short slump as they re-tooled for the greater good and a better show in the long run.
Talkin Ball needs to do the same as the Blazers. Get Dwight to wake up out of his angry nap and do his job, or tell him to find a new one. Obviously he's not always negative, his interviews on his own show are great (though monotonous and pretty slow-moving for televised interviews). So get him to put in some effort on Talkin Ball or don't come on at all.
And for the love of Blazer Basketball, Abby Chin needs to get off the cue cards, take some classes on self-confidence, get learned on some basketball knowledge, and figure out how to control a show... or just find a real host, who's main selling points are NOT just having a pretty face, nice skin and bright-colored blouses?

Pretty simple, Comcast. Blazer Fans deserve better than you're giving them. Fix it.

I can barely tolerate Talkin Ball.  I stopped watching it probably about a month ago.  I just hate some of the people on there.  I love Ian Karmel, and the Blazer Edge bloggers.  I can't stand Chad Doing, Michael Holden, Dwight, and Antonio. I think the worst guest I ever saw on the show was when they had some actor from Jacka** on the show.  What made them even think about putting that guy on the show?

I think the show would be more interesting if it was real fans on the show, and not a bunch of sport writers, and broadcasters.  I am not sure really the best recipe for the success of the show, but right now it is just horrible.

And as if the dancers (and the outfits they wear) weren't bad enough already ...somehow they got sucked into wearing terrible outfits and promoting it more! WOW! what hate!  Leave Abby alone already!  She's sharp and on the money.  Get past the looks and just listen.  Just because we win a game doesn't mean we are going to the playoffs.  Get real!  Are team is terrible right now, but I must say I'm seeing a few things I like about a couple of players.  Talking ball is a show that you should be able to picture yourself there at the table talking with those folks.

You know, Blazer247, I barely have anything to say after you post because you hit all the good points so well. But I can always add! I'm good at that.

Stompin' Ground, Adrenaline Hunter/Adventure Woman, The Wild Life, etc. I see a common theme here: all of the content of these shows appeals to typical Oregonians. The fundamental problem is that Portlanders are not typical Oregonians, and typical Oregonians are not basketball fans. Consider the alternative. If Stompin' Ground was replaced by a reality show that follows a local indie musician as he/she plays in all kinds of iconic Portland venues, I'd watch it. I get the feeling more Blazers fans would (depending how good the musician was of course). Comcast doesn't seem to understand that Basketball fan does not translate to every-other-Oregon-activity fan. And even if you are a Blazer fan who also likes camping, hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking, rodeo, etc., it doesn't mean you want to watch annoying people with no screen presence doing it. Maybe you just want to get outdoors and do it yourself.

For my thoughts on Talkin' Ball, I have to first go back to last year's playoff series against Dallas (before Abby Chin hosted). I called in after the first game, as they were accepting calls for the "In Your Court" section. My question acknowledged that Players like Jason Terry and Shawn Marion should be expected to have bigger games and I asked if we might have underestimated Dallas in hoping for them as our first-round match up. In retrospect, I think I had one heck of a point. But I was openly mocked by the Talkin' Ball panel, not only for saying Marion could produce big games (eat your words) but also that I had said "we" when talking about the Blazers. Maybe it's just a grudge, but I think it's bad PR to discourage your fan base from feeling a personal connection and identifying with your team. In addition, I was bothered by the level of arrogance and the obvious lack of league knowledge that met my question.

A couple other thoughts I have about Talkin' Ball are (A) that there is WAY to much commercial time during that show. I'll calculate tonight, but I'm pretty sure advertisements take up around 35-40% of the air time. And (B) the structure of the show drives me nuts. It seems like a lot of worthless prolonged discussion about virtually nothing and all of the content is perpetually "coming up next." I've discovered that the Talkin' Ball version of "coming up next" means rapidly crammed into the last 4 minutes of programming.

And that is my rant. Sorry if I crossed any lines, DHawes, I just hope the admins can realize we are having a discussion about quality entertainment for Blazer fans.

Stompin Ground and Talkin Ball are both garbage.

Last I checked honest, god-fearing, country folk didn't prostitute their wife and teenage daughters, one of which is underage, on a reality show.  It's honestly not all that sexy watching a couple spoiled brats who don't live in the real world play cowboy.  If you want to play the whole "real american" card try getting a job and contributing to the world.  These people need to break out of their self-indulgent bubble and realize that they are nothing special just because they ride horses for money.  Oh, and fire the narrator.  We live in OREGON not Texas.  The accent is just silly.

Talking Ball needs help.  Abby needs to watch hours and hours of Lindsay Czarniak.  There is a woman who is an 11/10 but still convincing as a sports fan.  The weakest part of the show is Dwight Jaynes.  He's in the same vein as Canzano in that he says whatever just to create controversy and get a reaction.  I hate that.  He's taken the negative nancy curmudgeon thing so far that he's completely irrelevant now.  Unfortunately I think hes dug in so deep in the NW that he's not going away.  I won't be watching Posting Up, and I find his stupid mafioso posturing in the commercials hilarious.  It's all fake, he looks like 250 lbs of chewed bubblegum in a cheap suit.  Get some sun, sort out your colon, and lighten up Dwight.

Here's hoping that Stompin Ground never sees another season (whether viewers are "portlanders" or "oregonians" as someone put it, none of us like seeing spoiled children try and act like exaggerated cowboys), and DOUBLE hoping that Talkin Ball gets a new host and some new life (no matter how charming or beautiful Abby Chin may be, she does NOT know basketball, and Dwight is too grumpy and contrarian to be entertaining any more)!
