This off-season is pivotal to the future of the Trail Blazers but is their enough pieces to be had in free agency and the draft to turn this team around?

I am not sure that there are. Portland has some serious flaws at multiple positions making it difficult to think we could address enough of them to defeat the Thunder, Heat or Bulls on our way to a Championship.

This made me wonder what the trade values were for certain members of our team.

The player with the most value on our team is Lamarcus Aldridge but could we get enough value out of him to make it worth trading him? By all accounts, Aldridge is a top 25 player in the NBA. Fair value for that player is hard to quantify.  Would Minnesota trade Love straight up for Aldridge, no! Would they trade him for Aldridge and a 1st round pick maybe but how much better does that make us. Love is tougher and a much better rebounder but is that worth a potential lottery pick? Probably not.

The trades I would make for Lamarcus Aldridge are as followed. They are listed in order of preference.

Sacramento Kings- D. Cousins and I. Thomas.
Cousins has been on a terror this season, which would give the Kings serious pause. The Kings still hold the projected #6 pick in the draft so that have lots of roster flexibility. Thomas would fill a major whole for us at PG and Cousins while not as prolific of a scorer as LA he would only represent a small downgrade.

Detroit Pistons- G. Monroe, C. Villanueva and the projected #7 pick in the draft
Monroe is a future all-star a great rebounder and a natural center. He would be a great building block for Portland at a hard to fill position. The Pistons have serious cap issues after over spending on Gordon and Villanueva meaning we would likely have to eat Villanueva’s salary. With the #7 pick, we could get someone like Jared Sullinger, or Arnett Moultrie.

Houston Rockets- K. Lowry, and projected draft picks #15, #21
Lowry is a great Pg who can score pass and defend he would be a major upgrade for Portland there and he has a cap friendly contract. Portland could target John Henson or Tyler Zeller with pick #15 or maybe they could pair one of the picks with New Jersey’s pick and move up to take Anthony Davis. The other pick could net the excellent shooting skills of Doron Lamb.  Houston tried hard to get P. Gasol this year you would imagine they would jump at the chance to add Lamarcus to a deep team.

Utah Jazz- D. Favors and the projected #9 pick in the draft.
The Jazz like Portland have two potential lottery picks this summer so giving up one of those picks and Favors for an established All-Star would make sense. This would also free the Jazz up to trade Millsap whose value is really high at the moment.
Portland could use the #9 pick to do many things, we could potentially take Bradley Beal or Austin Rivers we could also get Meyers Leonard if Drummond does not last until New Jersey’s pick.

Atlanta Hawks- J. Smith or Al Horford and projected pick #19 in the draft
Atlanta has weighed trading both men and either would be a good replacement for Aldridge. Horford who plays a natural center position would give us a good post presence. Smith is an excellent defender and a great hustle player he would fit on style team. The #19 pick could be trade bait or we could use it to select someone like Dion Waiters or hometown prospect Terrence Jones.

What would you like to see Portland get for Lamarcus Aldridge if they traded him?

I like the Sacramento trade but I would add Matthews and demand their first round pick so,
Sacramento gets: Lamarcus Aldridge and Wesley Matthews.
Portland gets: Demarcus Cousins, I. Thomas and Sacramento's 2012 1st round pick.

I would not have a problem with your suggestion but I think if Sacramento had to give up their first round pick we would likely have to eat Salmons salary. I am not sure that would be worth the extra pick.

Cousins is a much better rebounder than LA in fact he is only behind Marcus Camby and Dwight Howard in Rebounds per 48 mins. LA has a better jumper than Cousins without a doubt but Cousins is much more likely to score in the paint than LA. Cousins is a better shot blocker and averages well over a steal per game. Cousins also gets to the line more often than LA.

LA is still the superior player to Cousins right now. But the differences are not that huge. But you know what is the 10 mil in Cousins and LA's salary. That amount of money could allow Portland to sign someone like McGee or Hibbert. Meaning you are getting Cousins and Hibbert for LA and there is no way you cannot say that is not an improvement.

Funny how some of the biggest whiners end up as champions. Duncan, KG, and Kobe complain all the time yet they keep on winning.

LA, batum, our 1st rd pick (not jersey) for howard and anderson if he signs an offer sheet guaranteeing 4 yr contract +D. best thing this would do is give us a shot at D will and draft a sf (kidd or barnes) with our first pick, i love batum, but if he is involved towards dwight and anderson, I am ok with it, oh and ORL rebuilds right away with LA batum and zeller

    Dwill/flynn
    Mathews/williams
    barnes or kidd/babbit
    anderson/hickson
    Howard/priz

Orlando might consider this at next years deadline but it would not happen before then and Howard will not sign the deal he wants to stay in orlando or be a free agent.

but honestly, i see a move with mathews, such as mathews for cj miles, or an even more in depth trade- mathews,  and portlands 1st pick (not jersey pick) and nxt yr pick to whoever picks kidd, then we can get kidd and drumond

    like these lineups
    brooks/flynn--------------------------------
    batum/elliot--------------------------
    barnes/cj------------------------------- kidd/babbit
    hickson/rhino---------------------------LA/hickson
    LA/zeller--------------------------------Drummond/priz

but the right fit for us he is,  mathews and zeller is an ok trade for him, but another high 20's pick for us next year is worth giving up to a team such as clv,  Id rather have a 2nd or 3rd pick than
pick 11 and 29- and with elliot  back and batum at sg, we can just give up a sg for the future.... unless we are so sure that barnes and zeller can help us to the championship more than kidd can drumond can, point is i that i think mathews zeller and a high 20 pick  can not get us to the finals and kidd has the talent that he is a greater building block for the future

explain it this way, here is our depth chart if we keep things the same and resign batum and hickson and sign brooks

    brooks/smith
    batum/mathews/williams
possible batum unless we pick a sf with nj pick/ babbit
    LA/hickson
    nj get drummond/priz

zeller jones marshell, take your pick with our own pick
if we pick a sf with our first pick, our sg's are messed up, we will keep batum, and e will does very well off bench and mathews does not, however it makes our own pick easy, we just have to pick zeller. If we pick a center, unless we want to draft 2 centers.... it becomes tricky.... jones will be a 3rd pf off the bench.... not what you want with this pick, marshell has potential.... now if we trade a player like zeller (nj would want a C) and clear up our guard situation (matthews) we can get the best sf in the draft, as well as the best center in the draft, if you compair the lineups

    Brooks/smith
    batum/williams
    kidd/babbit
    LA/hickson
    drumond/?

if makes things a lot more clearer and gives us a direction to move towards

but if you wanted to go about trading LA, this is the way to do it

    http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7vtrsoo

bynum second best center, not getting along with brown, boom there goes our center problems
squares up LA sf depth and gives them LA, gasau will play center, they get a lineup similar to Robinson and duncan..... then kobe....

combine both our picks, and pick nxt yr for whoever gets anthony davis, fixes the pf problems we just received....... team is insane

    brooks (still like brooks)/ ?
    mathews/williams
    batum/ cj miles (free agency)
    Davis/hickson
    bynum/priz

If we trade LA I think we need a total revamp check out my blue print thread to see how I would completely rebuild. I wanted to find 5 players with a PER over 20 to fit this team and it was just not possible.

We need some some serious defensive and rebounding help. While Bynum would add both of those we cannot risk our future on someone so injury prone.

Best time to acquire him would have been when we got Gerald Wallace. He was the new upcoming star being talked about. When Portland got GW they screwed themselves over because Batum's value automatically dropped when another SF was put in front of him. I know the Spurs and Nuggets are still very interested in Batum but being a free agent complicates things greatly. If we do a sign and trade, a team might not want to pay as much as we had to sign him for (to keep him away from another team) - if that makes sense. I just cant think of any team that would give up a PG or center for Batum. Boston has nobody behind Rondo, New Jersey has nobody behind Deron Williams, etc. Indiana is looking to trade Granger from the sounds of it. Im sure theyd much rather have Batum - but Granger would be a downgrade in the long-run.

Batum is still desirable, but I dont think any team sees him as a priority this summer. They see him as a really convenient big acquisition, but not the #1 goal, and  thus they won't give up what they would for a franchise-changer.

Excellent post man Portland really dropped the ball not trading Batum I think we could have gotten quite a bit for him or at least a 3rd lottery selection this season.

First, if we so desire, we could sign and trade Batum in the summer.

Second, if we do trade LA, we must make sure we get a #1 option in return or the chance at one (draft pick).

Third, of the trade options listed in the original post, the only one I'd do for certain is the one for Cousins simply because he plays a position of scarcity in the NBA and I believe he has a little more star power then LA. The only other one I'd consider is the Utah one, but that'd be contingent on them actually getting Golden State's pick. But I'd much rather have Kanter than Favors, because I think he could be the next big thing at center.
