Trail Blazers (21-24) vs. Bucks (20-24)

You know what they say, the first game back home after a long road trip is always difficult for the team. It's human nature to take your guard down, relax, and be comfortable once you're in the presence of your city, family and friends. And unfortunately for Portland, there is no rest for the weary. Just one day after completing a seven-game in thirteen night road trip, they are back at it again on the hardwood, taking on the Milwaukee Bucks for the first of two seasonal matchups. Both squads are on the outside looking in, in regards to the playoff chase but Milwaukee just bolstered their lineup by adding Monta Ellis before the trading deadline for injured center Andrew Bogut. And to top it off, the Bucks have won five straight, including three on the road.

The Bucks should be a favorable matchup for the Trail Blazers as Milwaukee doesn't possess any centers of big men who can beat you down on the glass. Since dealing Marcus Camby to Houston, the Trail Blazers have been outrebounded 88-70 in two games against Chicago and Oklahoma City. But while Bogut is no longer in the Brew City, and Drew Gooden is an undersized center, they've been getting after it on the glass. In their last contest, a 120-98 thrashing of Golden State in Oakland, the Bucks crushed the Warriors on the glass to the tune of a 54-35 advantage. Gooden was able to pull down 11 rebounds against David Lee and Andris Biedrins but the story of the game was small forward-turned power forward, Luc Richard Mbah a Moute grabbing a season-high 17 rebounds; and doing so with his 6-8, 230 lb frame. Batum and Aldridge both have been off of their games lately and if they don't bring it, those two for Milwaukee will so watch that matchup down low in the paint. Whoever wins the battle under the boards will win this game.

Tuesday night will also mark the debuts of the newest Trail Blazers, Hasheem Thabeet and Jonny Flynn. How much either will play is anyone's guess. I'd assume we see more Hasheem then Jonny due to the lack of height we have on our front line. Combine that with the fact that Felton and Smith have been a great 1-2 punch at the point guard spot and it could be tough for Flynn to find his way onto the floor. I'll be anxious to see how each player does over the course of the final 21 games. Obviously they have talent, but is there still untapped potential left from the former lottery picks? Or has it all dried up? What I want to see from Hasheem is an intimidating presence down low. I want the opposition to fear that their shot is going to be sent in the third row if they drive the lane while he's patrolling the paint. As for Flynn, I'd like to see how he runs a team. It seems like over the years each one of our point guards has had a glaring weakness, whether it be shooting, ball control or court vision. Can Jonny keep the D honest with his jumper? Can he beat his man off the dribble and either find the open man or finish in traffic? How is he running a break? A lot of questions, but hopefully we get a lot of answers from here on out, Rip City.

Tillamook Cheese although very good (me and my wife took the tour) does not hold a candle to GAD cheese. they were established during the depression and are still family run. They do not advertise or take credit/debit cards. They make a smoked mozzerella string cheese that is out of this world along with 20 other types and flavors. They are located in Wisconsin. That being said goBlazers

Would like to see both Nolan Smith and newcomer Flynn tap into some of those Felton minutes.  If it were me, and admittedly it is not, RayRay would be headed down to the D league for an indefinite stint.  I would also be assigning him a nutritionist.  Thabeet would be getting 10-12 minutes if I were Canales (and again...admittedly I am not).  Odd man out in our backcourt for the remainder of this season, particularly with EW coming back, is Raymond Felton...no question.

    GO BLAZERS!

Not a ton of bright spots tonight. But there was at least one. And his name is Wesley Matthews. He played his tail off, scoring 21 points, including 5-7 from 3 and 4-4 from the charity stripe, and gabbed 9 rebounds from the two-guard position.

In fact, since the trade, Matthews has been red-hot after previously not being able to throw it in the ocean. In the three games since being inserted back into the starting lineup, Wes has scored 55 points (18.3 ppg) on 18-36 shooting (50%), including 12-15 from downtown (80%).

This is definitely the Wes I expected from the get-go, but better late then never. And if he can have a hot finish to the season, hopefully it will carry over into the fall. Lord knows this team can use all the outside shooting we can get.

I will agree that the officials tanked this game, but I think they made bad calls on both sides at least.

I didn't want to see another blowout so soon after the trade deadline, but that's what happens when the bench players can't find the net to save their lives. At least we know Canales will continue to play them, unlike Nate who would've benched the young guys for the rest of the season and probably moved Crawford to backup Center or something.

At least we saw a solid game from LA and the 3rd good game in a row from Felton, which just might give him some much needed validity as our starting PG. Plus we saw Flynn and Thabeet's first minutes as Blazers. Flynn has some serious speed-changing (and speedy) moves; I think he could have some B.Roy-like isolation skills. And with Thabeet, well, you just can't teach 7'3".

DHawes, how come there are so many trade rumors with Wes' name attached ?I like Wes. Not a fan of his inconsistency, but a fan nonetheless. Was Nate that bad of a guy in the locker room ?Feltons great play as of late is dispicable. What a punk. How in the name of all that is crossover do you elevate your game,in the absence of thee man who demanded your best. These punks arent ready for the likes of a Jerry Sloan. Jerry Sloan is a man. Pow! No gray  area. He drafts, cultivates and motivates potential. Im offended everytime i hear his name associated with anything Blazers. Unless of course, fatboy,no longer owns the squad.

    Post-Game Quotes:
Coach Kaleb Canales on not taking Milwaukee out of their game-

“I think it’s a combination of things. Like I mentioned, there’s too many – 57 percent from the field, 52 from three, I mean 35 assists? I mean, you’ve got to give them credit. They’re playing good basketball and they came in tonight and they did the same thing they’ve been doing to a lot of teams.”
Coach Canales on if this performance surprised him-
“Our commitment has been to competing and to playing together. I felt we competed for the majority of 48 minutes tonight and we’re going to stick together and we’re focusing on practice tomorrow.”
Joel Przybilla on if this game was a product of the trades made last week-

“No I don’t think so. I think our biggest thing tonight was we didn’t play no defense. We gave up 120 points at home. All defense is is a little effort and we didn’t do that tonight. Effort and concentration – we get defensive stops, that makes it easier for us in transition and offense. We didn’t do nothing tonight.”

Przybilla on seeing Roy back in the Rose Garden-

“It was good to see him. He looks good, he’s got a smile on his face. I just wish we could have got a win for him. He’s been a big part of this organization, this city. A lot of us wouldn’t be where we’re at without what he’s done and contributed to this team.”

LaMarcus Aldridge on what the team needs to do defensively-

“We have to play with more effort. We got back-doored like four or five times. We’ve got to fight through screens. Our bigs have to be up in screens. I felt like we didn’t do none of that tonight. We just worried about trying to outscore them tonight and our defense wasn’t there the second through fourth.”

Just my opinion, but I bet his name was attached to trade rumors for two reasons. One, to try to entice teams to trade for Felton. And two, he is owed a few more years on his deal and the pan all along has been have as much cap space as possible. And really, everyone was mentioned in trade rumors except Aldridge. It just comes with the territory.

Territory being the operative word. They arent protecting ours. You have to agree that their play as of late is criminal. Bordering on prosecution. Id rather play two on three, than to watch this debacle.

Blazers bench shot 7% from the floor. Yes folks, that's single digits.

Brandon Roy could make more shots from the 300 level. C'MON BLAZERS!

Yep.  The rest of this season is not being played for this season, but rather...for next season.  The Blazers are reloading and you can count on RayRay not being a part of the long term plan here.  Not certain whether Flynn and/or Thabeet will either, but we won't know what they're capable of until they're given some pt.  Raymond is playing for a spot on SOMEONE ELSE'S roster next season now and the fattest check he can get on that squad.  This season is over.  No way this team makes the playoffs, especially with 4 out of the last five games on the road.  Develop your young talent.  Two lottery picks.  I said it in the season prediction thread...and stood very alone.  Sub 500 team this year, no playoffs and little to no Chalupas.  Spot on.

Raymond hits his stride walking thru the doors at Baskin Robbins.  Just as I voted I need to see more consistency from We$ from the field, one good game...or even a short string of good games from Felton is not enough.  I'm old school.  Getting paid millions to play a game and showing up for work in that kind of condition is absolutely inexcusable, period.

With regard to last nights game...shameful.  Joel excluded, there is obviously a lack of pride in the Blazer locker room.  116 points to ANY team at home is not worthy of the fan support this market has always bestowed upon it's beloved Blazers.  My eighth grade team would go face first through a folding chair after a loose ball.  This team?  Not even in their dreams.  Sad.

Highlights - Felton and Matthews once again deliver.  LMA gets a very quiet double double.  BRoy welcomed back to the Rose Garden with a standing ovation that lasted more than a minute.  Babbitt cut his hair.

Lowlights - The bench scoring was absurdly bad.  The Blazers defense has more holes that swiss cheese.  And the worst lowlight was the ROSE GARDEN BOOING THE BLAZERS.  Specifically, booing Felton who was one of just a few people who actually showed up.

And anybody who blames this loss of the refs is in denial.

I think the reason we lost was on the coach. This guy obvious does not know what he is doing.. he let the rookies put us in a 15+ point deficit, took timeouts at awkward moments, and played 2-3 zone against a heavy three point shooting team. The other team had mismatches all night, why not move LA to center play small ball with a three guard lineup playing man to man
