Was this the win of the season?
Yes- Beat the Beasts of the East without 2 starters and broke in a new coach all at once (22)
     88%
No- OKC was more impressive, Derrick Rose didn't play either (3)

5:00 PM | United Center | Chicago, IL
Trail Blazers (20-23) At Bulls (36-9)

Just two more stops on the road for the Trail Blazers. Unfortunately for them, they are going up against the teams with the best records in each conference. They will battle the Bulls (36-9) on Friday and then fly to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder (32-10) this upcoming Sunday to conclude the seven-game road trip. Unless you've been living under  a rock, there will be a different leader at the helm tomorrow in the United Center for the Trail Blazers. Assistant Coach Kaleb Canales will be manning the ship for the remainder of the season as the team's interim head coach after Portland parted ways with Coach Nate McMillan. Along with Coach Kaleb on the sidelines, there are reports out there that Portland dealt Marcus Camby and Gerald Wallace. If those trades pass the NBA inspection and go through, it will be a short-handed squad on hand to face off against a Bulls team that is fresh off their win over the Heat on Wednesday without Derrick Rose, 106-102.

Obviously, the big question surrounding the Trail Blazers is who rounds out the starting lineup? I'd assume that Wesley Matthews regains his starting shooting guard position and Joel Przybilla will move along side LaMarcus Aldridge  at the five. For Chicago, there still is no definitive word as of yet in regards to Rose's availability. But even if he doesn't go, Chicago has proven they can play and play well without the NBA's reigning MVP. In their win over the Heat, third string point guard, John Lucas who had 24 points, on 9-12 shooting, in 27 minutes off of the bench.

The Bulls are owners of the league's third-best home record at 18-3. The Trail Blazers have the sixth-worst road record in the NBA at 6-16. That does not bode well for the Men In Black. But, I don't think we can measure this season in wins and losses anymore. How will Coach Canales rotate the players? Will there be an onus on developing the young guys such as Luke Babbitt and Nolan Smith just as was the case when Kevin Pritchard took over for Maurice Cheeks in the 04-05 season. Or will it be business as usual? For the game Friday, I really want to see good ball movement in the half-court offense, extra energy, and pride on the defensive end.

As a Portland native, I've been a Blazer fan my whole life.  I was there at Gerald Wallace's debut game in Portland when he rocked the Rose Garden and we dubbed him the Predator.  My fiance and I temporarily moved to Chicago in August and have been looking forward to the Blazers vs. Bulls game (tomorrow) since the week the schedule was posted.  To up our fan presence, we both ordered brand new jerseys this month to wear to the game - I chose #3 Wallace. Then I heard the news today...

WHAT A F-ING WASTE!!!!!  WTF am I supposed to do with this jersey now?  I don't even have time to order a new one so that I don't look a fool at the game tomorrow.  And more importantly, what is management thinking trading away Wallace???  I'm starting to agree with all of the negative postings around Blazer ownership and the decisions being made lately.

The only positive thing I can say right now is at least they FINALLY threw away that blunder of a #1 pick - GOOD RIDDANCE!!!  Przybilla is tha man, always has been.

If we lose by 40 again, I'm running out and buying a Luke Babbitt jersey.

Hahaha, yea, or even going retro would have been a safe hedge bet against the Blazers (b)owners.  Too bad there are no Duckworth 00 jerseys available in the fan shop.  Please fix that!

Management is thinking that they need to rebuild, which they do. so they got a draft pick for a veteran, make sense?

i think it the trades were pretty good. wallace didn't play well this season and we got a pick (only protected through the top three!!!) and more cap space at the end of the season. makes a lot of sense to me and i am happy that the front office didn't try to just add some small piece here and another there but understood that we need a retooling process

we probably won't win this game but, I expect us to be competitive with everything that happen we went from a team fighting for a playoff spot to a team fighting for roster spots the young guys will and should play more PT because the rest of the season is an open audition outside of LA and Batum because we are going to be building around those two and I also be watch LA will he step up and be a leader this is a perfect opportunity for him to do that because this is his team now and there's no pressure of expectations the rest of the season so when this team get the players around him he can grow in to a leader.

Not trying to kick a man when he's down. But when you consider the fact that every player playing tonight was already on the roster before the trade deadline, Portland's issues appear to have been motivation and the rotation/game-plan. I think it was the right move to let Nate go... just to shake it up in a good way.

Watched the game with Wheels on the am dial, I can only imagine how the team and kalib feel right now. What a wonderful win, and a big F U to the Bald headed sports writer and nay sayers whom are accusing the blazers of tanking the season for better draft opportunity. As a true fan I am still optimistic of a possible spot in the playoffs, even if we would have to meet OKC.

I liked how Kaleb played everyone and then put them back in the game during the second half. He showed trust in the team and they responded with one of the most impressive victories of the season. In fact, outside of Przybilla, every Blazer had a positive +/- rating tonight.

I'm not sure I would bank on Ray going 6-11 for 16 points, 5 assists, and just one turnover every night but it was nice to see Ray look like the Ray of old. Wesley appears to have burst out of his shooting slump, going 6-11 also and hitting dagger after dagger.

But the story of the game? Nolan Smith. 12 points, 5-7 shooting, 3 rebounds and 1 assist all while playing some of the most tenacious defense I've seen from the point guard position in a very long time.I'm glad he's finally getting time to show us what he's got. The only downside? E-Will is dinged up and it would have been too much fun to see he and Nolan out there in the backcourt together.

Now thats TEAM play everyone on the team played and played well, I love the way special K used everyone on the roster and look how well everyone gel'd. I think this season has some light at the end of the tunnel finally. Looking at the stats sheet I see the best game all season period! way to go coach K keep up the good work

    Post-Game Quotes
Coach Kaleb Canales on the win-

“It was very relaxing.  I've been very blessed and fortunate to get this opportunity.  Tonight we just made baskets.  This is a special time for us as a team and a family.  What we talked about this morning and before the game was competing and playing together.  Tonight the guys just got that done.  I think when you're making baskets and playing together you control the moment.  We had a great defensive 4th quarter holding them to 10 points.”
Coach Canales on what he told the team-
We asked for their commitment this morning.  We asked them to compete and play together.  They did that and now we are going to hold them to it for the rest of the season.  We had a lot of team spirit out there tonight.  We talked about being committed to each other.  Defense is in our DNA and you saw that out there tonight.”
Wesley Matthews on his 4th quarter scoring-
“I just got the ball in the right spots.  We were playing with confidence out there.  When you do that, it's just fun.  We were just happy for each other.  Our defense was very good tonight.  They are a great offensive team, but part of the reason we were able to play them so well was we had a set defense and didn't turnover the ball.”
Jamal Crawford on the win tonight-
“It was just a great team effort all night.  Someone stepped up each time down the stretch as we needed it.  The odds were against us, but we played together.  It's started at our shoot around today.  There was a different vibe there.  Coach had a plan and a method which got us loose.  When you lose, it's tough on everyone from the team, to the fans, to the whole organization.”

Not only did I like the rotation and strategy better (did anyone else notice that Jamal didn't play any minutes at the point?). I liked the whole atmosphere of the team. Something has been wrong, no question there. But I saw REAL veteran leadership out of Joel and LaMarcus tonight. Even Nic looked more like a veteran and Felton looked much more comfortable directing traffic on the floor. I'm pretty much positive that Crawford has had some influence on Luke and Nolan, helping them be confident offensively. What I'm getting at is that there were no traces of our recent chemistry issues. The real question is whether they're actually gone or if this was just a "prove-yourself" game after such a dramatic trade deadline.

Proud of this team, I loved to see them compete, that's all you really want to see as a fan anyway. When you compete you win more than you lose. Yeah it's nice to see these players trying again, now let's get some revenge on the thunder for the game the refs stoled from us. Go blazers!

This is the kind of play we've been missing. Definitely the kind of play Blazers fans knew they were capable of. And after all the crap they've been getting with these trade deadline choices. This was a true team effort. It was nice to see everyone getting to play, playing as a team, keeping up the fight, and most of all being happy. What an attitude change a day can make.

Congrat to Coach K on his first win! Way to come into being an NBA head coach with bang. Very impressed with the staff and your decisions. I've been ranting for sometime to leave players in longer if they are working and finally got to see it! Keep up the good work!

    Woot Blazers!!! :)

It is and odd look and feeling without Nate there. But, if the players' attitudes and the moment they shared with Kanales is any indicator, I think I'm actually less anxious now that Nate isn't at the helm. At least now I'm not sure what to expect, rather than being disappointed game after game.

Yes, the game experience was absolutely worth it!  It was a hell of a game and we ran into more Blazer fans than expected at the stadium, so that was nice.  I am still sad that Wallace is gone, but I'll retire his jersey on the wall in my condo and look forward to the future.

Joel looked good is loss to OKC.  I sincerely hope he does not leave the team after this year.  He is one of those players whose numbers do not reflect his value for a team.  He is a selfless player and an enforcer which the Blazers truly need.
