There has been a lot of talk around the forums and on sports radio claiming the Blazers need a Batman to go with LA's Robin. If we cannot get Howard or Williams to sign with Portland oh well. We can win a title without them. But we cannot do it with our current roster.

Portland needs to focus on defense a lot more than they are doing currently. The first step is acquiring a PG.

Rondo would be a perfect fit because of his defense and effort. However, it is less likely Portland has the pieces needed to get him from Boston. I think Rondo's back up Avery Bradley is someone Portland should be actively trying to acquire. He is an elite defender and is likely in the top 5 at his position on that side of the ball. Offensively he is no Chauncey but he has time to develop.

Batum is not quite the scorer Rip was but I think he defense is already above what Hamilton's was. He should be kept.

Gerald Wallace is an elite defender but Nate is too reliant on his offensive output which has hurt his overall impact. If he refocuses on def and stops shooting so many 3's Portland has another keeper.

LA is a more consistent scorer than Sheed was in 2004 but on the defensive level they are a long ways apart. LA needs to work on his help d rotations and rebounding.

We need to find our Ben Wallace. Josh Smith would be a great option I do not think Portland has the assets to acquire him so this might be needed to be accomplished via the draft or god help us a healthy Greg Oden.

Do you think the Blazers could build a team like the 2004 Pistons that could challenge for a title or is our only hope finding Batman?

We are missing two pieces, large pieces. You called it. We need Ben Wallace 2.0. Camby can rebound and Joel can intimidate, but neither is or can be the complete defensive stud that Big Ben was. And two, where is our Big Shot Billups? Not only do we need a clutch wing player but we need a LEADER. We need someone who is willing to throw feelings aside and hold people accountable. It also wouldn't hurt if we toughened up a bit. I feel like we can be a bit soft. We need some nasty on this team but I feel like management is too afraid to bring in a Bad Boy because they don't want to alienate the fan base after the whole Jail Blazer era. But winning cures all.

I like your thought on avery Bradley. It's really difficult to know what boston is thinking at this time. I would think that a trade with the blazers for rondo, or a smaller deal involving Bradley is possible. I guess we'll have to wait for the next 48 hours to see if something surfaces. As for Aldridge getting a robin or going for a batman, I think the blazers could win very much like Dallas did last year if they simply have the right chemistry around their All-Star. Most importantly, an unselfish yet mentally aggressive PG, a talented SG that can create their own shot and also pass, and a center of course. The center position is probably the hardest to fill at this point. They are just such a rarity these days but you do not need a Dwight Howard. I think someone with the current skill set of Roy Hibbert would get Portland deep in the playoffs. The problem is where to find another big guy with that much talent. The draft? It's going to take time to get a center but if rebuilding is the focus, I don't see why getting a great PG isn't the first thing to happen. I hope it is. That's the foundation. His relationship with the coach and players. Everything stems off of that.

And I agree with ClydeFrog that we need some attitude. Andre Miller held people accountable when he wasn't afraid of stepping on Brandon's toes. With Miller's active play calling and vocality on court being lost, this team has become extremely complacent. Felton and Matthews try to think they're leaders, but they aren't. When Matthews passes up a shot he gets all self-conscious and it is contagious on offense. We can't have players like that. We need a lot more confidence with skill and knowledge for the game to back it up. Aldridge has been really disappointing in the leader department and he's supposed to be the captain. Batum has shown aggressiveness at times but not enough. And camby just looks like he's giving up. Thats why team chemistry has got to change. Somebody needs to come in and act humble, but driven and assertive at the same time.

I agree we need a leader which is why I would love Rondo. His attitude is almost identical to Garnett's and that is a very good thing.

Garnett is old but the guy is still a gamer and his PER is over 20 right now. Plus he would instill some leadership in this team.

Would you guys settle for Portland looking more like the 2012 Philadelphia 76ers? I love there fast paced defensive oriented style but I just do not see Portland having the young athletes that Philly does and that is an issue.

Love how Philly looks this year. Need more players like Elliot Williams to make a team like that but yes, Philadelphia is an example of a franchise that knows what they're doing, recruits specific types of players, and makes it all happen smoothly.

The question is how far will that mold get them? I hope they crush Miami but we will see.

They need to improve the bench a bit especially at the center and PF positions as Elton brand and tony battie really don't do much. Thaddeus young has a SF body at the PF position. Give Philadelphia someone like dion Jordan and they beat the heat.

I think Philly needs a guy like Andre Blatche to beat the Heat.
