Trail Blazers (19-19) At Timberwolves (20-19)

The inevitable has finally arrived. The moment the condensed 66-game schedule was released, these seven games were the talk of Rip CIty. Sure, the three games in three nights were looked at, mostly because it doesn't happen all that often. But seven-games in 11 nights with six of those teams in the playoff hunt? Unreal. At the time, everyone thought this trip could make or break home-court advantage. But little did we know that this trip will make or break just simply making it into the postseason. This will be Portland's second contest against Minnesota in less than a week and their only trip to the Twin Cities this season. Just last Saturday, the Wolves strolled into the Rose Garden, scored 40 first-quarter points and never looked back, winning 122-110 to erase a 16-game losing streak to the Trail Blazers.

In that contest, Kevin Love finally broke through against his hometown team, dropping 42 points to go along with 10 rebounds; a far cry from his 12 and 10 averages against Portland prior to Saturday's tip. He took our bigs inside and out (connected on 5-8 from downtown) which set the tone early on and gave Minnesota the confidence that they needed to get the big road win. During that game, Camby left for a period of time with a chin laceration and Johnson and Przybilla each got into quick foul trouble, forcing LA to move to the center. When LA was at center, he wasn't able to defend Love, instead having to deal with the larger Pekovic, which ultimately gave Love free-roaming against a smaller power forward.

So with that said, the key to kicking off this road trip on the right foot is staying out of foul trouble. If Love is in the game, make sure Aldridge is in there every second of the way, shadowing the former Lake Oswego product all over the hardwood. And, on the other end of the floor, LA needs to take it right back at him. The game against New Orleans marked the third straight game, LA has not attempted a free-throw. Portland needs their All-Star to live at the charity stripe. Usually the first-game of the road trip sets the tone. We all saw how the six-game road trip in January started (blowout loss at San Antonio), so this could be the most
    important game on the docket.

I sure hope these trade rumors don't blur the Blazers focus. We owe Minnesota a beat down. It's inconceivable that the T-Wolves are ahead of us in the standings.

Let's get a win, let's find the right ingredients, and let's get this gravy heated back up.

This may be the last game that portland plays with its current Lineup. Unless they do nothing something will happen before the roadtrip ends. I think Chicago is our last game before the deadline. Nice of the league to put us on the road for the entire last week of FA. That being said some of our players might up their game prior to or instead of being traded or at least one would hope and I would like to think more than one would like a little revenge. I am looking forward to seeing a good game

Just seems like this team can't get on the same page. One game Crawford and Batum are hot but no one else can connect and tonight was no different as Wallace and Felton lead the charge but it was quiet on the rest of the front.

If you look at the boxscore and see 22 & 7 from LA, you might think, business as usual. But, LA hung out way too much on the perimeter. Whenever he posted up, it was money in the bank. Still ot sure why we aren't forcing it to him on the blocks all night long and force the D to adjust.

I really liked what I saw from Felton, Thomas and Elliot tonight. Felton looks like the point guard we trade for and I truly believe the lockout did him no good. And Thomas gave us a great 7 minutes in the 4th and he was part of the reason we cut the lead to six. He boxed out Love and hit a couple jumpers. Elliot is just Elliot. It doesn't matter if he has the ball or not, he's always moving out there and crashing the glass.

Blazers has got to get to the free throw line! Only 4 attempts for the whole game is a disgrace.

    Post-Game Quotes:
Jamal Crawford on the trade rumors-

"At the end of the day, we're only human no matter what somebody said, but in the back of their head they hear the rumors in the locker room, but we have to be professional about it and give it the best shot that we can."
Gerald Wallace on getting the feeling Portland's ship is sinking-

"Yea, and it could sink real fast on this road trip. This was one of those must win games for us. Now we got to go and play some tough teams. We've got to improve; we've got to get better. If we want to be one of those top flight teams, it's gonna start with us winning on the road. We haven't been able to put together 4 quarters in a row."

    LaMarcus Aldridge on Kevin Love-

"I think the biggest part of his game that makes him tough to guard this year is that three ball. He's shooting it with confidence and shooting it with a two step jup behind the line and that's where he hurt us. It's not him in the post, it's not just pick and rolls, it's his three ball."

Coach McMillan on the Wolves' three-point shooting-
"Yea we let these guys have a big start: a 37 point first quarter, they had a 40 point quarter last time we played them. We really have got to establish ourselves defensively. Offensively, I think we are settling for a lot of jump shots and we only have two guys to attempt free throws tonight. There are open shots that you have to take, but, there are also opportunities to drive the ball and when those shots are not falling, defenses are going to pack it down. But we had some open looks that we got to knock down those shots and until you do the defense is going to continue to try and take the ball out of LaMarcus' hands and make our perimeter guys shoot and make shots."

I dont think L.A. has any confidence in his perimeter cohorts knocking down shots.
