Joel Przybilla Returns With Goal Of Leading Trail Blazers Back To Playoffs - Via Joe Freeman
"The biggest thing with me, whatever happens, (if I) play or not play, I want to be a voice to this team," Przybilla said Monday afternoon at the Blazers' practice facility. "Help this team get to the playoffs and try to make a run deep into the playoffs."
"Some friends I was working out with (in Wisconsin) ... tell me I look like my old self," Przybilla said. "I didn't want to be what I was last year, playing on one leg literally... And it was tough at times. But I hung through there, worked this summer and got back to where I wanted to be."
The 32-year old Przybilla enjoyed his best years in Portland, where he played from 2004-2011 as both a starter and reserve. Przybilla, who will provide grit, toughness and veteran savvy to the Blazers, ranks fifth in team history with 607 blocks and needs just 14 to tie Jerome Kersey for fourth place on the all-time list.

Joel is only 32, not ancient by any means. I feel like his knee injuries have aged him more than that, but if his body is fully functional, he could really help solve our rebounding issues. But his biggest attribute could be his locker room presence. Ever since Brandon left, this team has been in search for a leader - a player that won't keep his mouth closed if he feels some of his teammates need to be held accountable. They didn't call Joel "Red Ass" for nothing. Also, if Joel can prove that he can take the toll of an NBA game throughout these next 32 games, it gives the Trail Blazers insurance at center in case Marcus Camby is traded or not able to be signed in the offseason.

Well said DHawes this is why I like this move he the type of guy that's not afraid to say what needs to be said and I felt that way one of the things missing on the team and also we don't lose much when Camby off the floor I glad that he back with us.

Glad Pryz is coming in with optimism and claiming to be fit.  Let's hope he can make an instant impact.  We need to turn things around now if we want to be above the eighth playoff.  A first round matchup with OKC does not sound appealing and would not lend to Pryz's goal of wanting to "make a run deep into the playoffs."

    is he a closer? no
is he an offensive threat? no
is he going to hit clutch baskets? no

but the blazers have all of those things, they are just lacking identity.

what the thrylla brings is little things that are over looked. he boxes out, he bullies, he scraps, he hustles, he sets a hard pick. what the thrylla does is enables the guys who are all ready great to be themselves. jamal can shoot the big shoot but now if it missed the pryz is boxing out his man, maybe pryz gets an offensive board maybe batum has room to sky in for a put back as the pryz is boxing out, maybe jamal is a little more open because of a hard pick, maybe 2 guys are trying to box out the thrylla and lamarcus has an easy put back. maybe the fact that all these possibilities exist jamal makes the shot because there's less pressure. maybe instead of lamarcus getting bullied by the opposing teams big they are occupied by that 7foot jerk that wont get out of their heads. maybe joel and kurt play just a couple minutes together and wear out the opposing bigs just enough where a fresh lamarcus has an extra half step on them.  maybe the opposing guard misses their big shot because of a sore arm after a hard pick last possession. maybe someone says "I can't" or "I dont know" and the thrylla smacks them upside the head and says "you can, you know"

the thrylla will be big even if he doesn't add a thing to the stat sheet.

First need is a centre. And no one will take ten and 13 for 4th or 5th. After like the 10th pick the talent off is huge.

@Meese, it is quite ironic. They also just so happen to have the planets best player in Lebron James who leads them in rebounding with just over 8 a game.

But that''s what separates them from the rest. Look at the Heat ...

Yes, let''s become completely sh*t, because the 2023 draft class in the best since 2003. This kid LeKobe Gasoldridge is the best ever. He is 8"9 with a 35" wingspan. He grew up in 5 century greece with the spartans so we know he''s tough. I heard ...

But I feel like worse teams than us would offer that so you never know he might want to come back where it all started... then again he could hate us with a passion and want to go absolutely anywhere else
