LaMarcus Aldridge: The Last Pillar Standing
The night before he left for Orlando, Aldridge was emphatic that he wouldn't be an All-Star today had Roy's knees held up and Oden remained healthy.

"No. No. No. I wouldn't," Aldridge said. "I mean, I would go as far to ask would I even still be here?"

Had the Big Three of Roy, Oden and Aldridge stayed intact, Aldridge said he would never have developed his low-post game, because that's where Oden stationed himself. He said he would have kept being a pick-and-pop player alongside Roy, taking jump shots and seldom going inside.

"And everyone would still be saying I was soft," Aldridge said.
"I probably would have ended up signing somewhere else," Aldridge said. "Think about it. I was the last option out of those guys, so they both would have gotten max deals, and they wouldn't have given me my deal (five years, $62.5 million). They only signed me because I was the only low post threat left on the team. If they had Greg, they don't give me the number I wanted, and I'm somewhere else. I think about it all the time. I wouldn't even be here had Greg not gotten hurt."
"Me, Brandon and Greg," Aldridge said, his head still shaking. "At the dinner table, I just remember seeing a vision of us three together, and it was something special. I felt like we were so young, we had so much time to build chemistry, so much time to grow and get better. I just saw all three of us having multiple rings. At least one ring. But it never came together. It never panned out."

Personally, I don't believe that he wouldn't be here. There's absolutely no way we don't lock LaMarcus up if Roy and Oden are here. We held his Bird rights, meaning we could extend him or match any offer if he ever became an unrestricted free agent. That would be the most devastating Big 3 this side of South Beach and would make us perennial favorites to come out of the Western Conference for the foreseeable future.

But, I do not think he ever becomes the talent he is now if Roy and Oden were still around. laMarcus, to me, is a player who needs to be pushed to succeed. He reminds me a lot of Martell Webster; a player who had all the potential in the world but had to feel "needed" in order to let that talent shine. Case and point was Marty's 24-point 3rd quarter against the Jazz in the winter of 2007. We were riding high during our 13-game winning streak and the rival Jazz were in town. Utah goes up by a decent margin before halftime and Brandon goes down with a minor injury -- unable to return to action. So what does Martell do? Oh, he only puts on a show for the ages, showing Rip City why the Trail Blazers chose him over CP3 and Deron Williams.

Flash back to December of 2010. Roy goes out for a prolonged period of time with aching knees and who is there to step up? LaMarcus Aldridge. He put the team on his shoulders and kept us alive in the playoff hunt, even winning Western Conference Player of the Month honors for February.

Who knows what would have happened.  Nice of Aldridge to be humble though.

Nice Idea but I think the TWolves trade is very lobsided in our favor

Derrick Williams and Budinger are proven players in the league. Claver and Freeland are not

Hawes was playing nice this season and would be a good pick up imo ...

I love the Grit and Grind, and I love the Spurs timeless play. I think if the Spurs get to the finals, they will beat the heat, but they won''t beat the Grizzlies easily, and the Grizz can''t beat the Heat. I know it''s weird.
