Greg Oden Has Microfracture Surgery On His Left Knee

"Initially, Greg was undergoing a procedure similar to the one he had a couple of weeks ago to have debris cleared from his right knee," said Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. "However, once the doctors were inside Greg's left knee, they unfortunately found articular surface damage and determined microfracture was necessary."
Oden, who will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, was selected by the Trail Blazers with the first overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. In 82 career games (60 starts), Oden has averaged 9.4 points (57.7% FG), 7.3 rebounds and 1.43 blocks in 22.1 minutes per game.

Although this news doesn't impact the Trail Blazers this season as it was made pretty apparent Greg Oden wouldn't be available after news came down a couple of weeks ago that he needed surgery on his right knee to remove debris. Shortly following that rain cloud came another just hours later when it was reported that he inded had blood clots in his ankles.

But going forward, the Trail Blazers definitely need a long-term center. Marcus Camby is 38 years old and Chris Johnson is very inexperienced, serving mostly as a specialty player off the bench. So even if the Trail Blazers re-sign Oden, a unrestricted free agent this summer, he will most likely be on the shelf for at least 12 months, maybe longer.

Poor Greg. The guy's younger than me and it seems like he has the legs/knees of an 80 year old. I have nothing but sympathy for him; at this point, I don't really care if he plays for us or not. It would just be nice to see something good happen to him. I'm getting nervous he's gonna need to be on suicide watch or something.

It's such a sad story. I'm tired of people always saying that Durant was the sure number one pick, only based on what he does now. Then, no one had any idea this would happen to a player with such tremendous upside. I'm not sure what to do anymore either. He is only 23, and that is the only reason why I still have hope for him, but then again, there is all that money we could use somewhere else. I always have that fear of players geting better other places, with our luck, so that would also be a killer to all Portland fans to see Oden get healthier somewhere else...

Well, I would completely understand the management's decision if they didn't sign him. And I would cheer him on even if he did become an all-star for another team, though it would be a major heartbreaker. I really don't think Portland will sign him after he becomes unrestricted, and, if he's still doubtful to return at that point, he may go unsigned by any team. I have no clue what might happen after that.

Yeah It would be a good deal for them but who Olshey isnt reading this haha. If we can do this trade to start our off season we would be in great shape.

Rip a cap hold is a number given to free agents. Basically the cap hold is added to the teams salaries at the start of free agency. So for example a team has 10 million in cap space but has 15 million in cap holds they are technically over the sal...

You could trade the pick for someone like Sanders or someone young and a little more developed and hope Noel does not surpass them.

Noel was playing at around 220 so I doubt the added weight will slow him down too much the guy just needs to continue his rehab and hit the weight room and he will be fine.

As long as he stops pulling the ball down in the post I will be happy nothing more annoying than watching that happen several times a game

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
