How Often Should The Trail Blazers Wear Their Rip City Jerseys?
    Every Home Game (9)
     28%
    Once A Week (7)
     22%
    Once A Month (14)
     44%
Once Per Season, For Special Occasions Only (1)
     3%
    Never (1)
     3%

Portland is breaking out their alternate Rip City jerseys tonight on national television against the Los Angeles Clippers. The jerseys originally debuted on November 6th, 2009 against the San Antonio Spurs, which resulted in a 96-84 victory for the home team. The 2009-10 season marked the 40th anniversary of the franchises existence and what is more synonymous with the Portland Trail Blazers then that phrase Bill Schonely famously coined many years ago? The uniforms were brought out once more that year on Fan Appreciation Night against the Golden State Warriors. Portland lost that one, 112-116, but many starters were rested due to our playoff seeding already been signed, sealed, and delivered. Portland  brought them out two more times the following season. The first was against the Hornets on November 26th, 2010 which resulted in a 97-78 loss. And the last time I remember the Trail Blazers donning the Rip City jerseys was again on Fan Appreciation Night, last April the 12th against the Grizzlies, where the fans saw a 112-89 victory to ensure Portland their sixth seed out West.

So, the Trail Blazers have worn them three times by my count and have won two of those contests. It's definitely too early to call them good luck charms. But aesthetically speaking, they look clean for an alternate jersey. Should they bust them out more than one time a season?

Yea, I'd like to see them at least once a month. I just really love how they incorporated our 3 normal stripes into the paneling on the side of the jersey. And nothing really beats the retro font. My only real beef with them is  that the pinwheel is current. Personally, I thought it would make more sense to use the throwback pinwheel on them, since that's the true Rip City era.

At this point, I'm all for switching (the jerseys) up. Its been well documented that we are among the NBA's most inconsistent teams. Maybe sporting these fresh jerseys more often will give us that extra boost at home... I'd say break em out every week.

They just plain look better than the normal white. What ever happened to the silver jerseys?

Marv Albert kept messin' up Schonely's name. He kep saying it like "shown-lee".

Kerr couldn't help Marv with the pronunciation, because he bailed out to take a potty break.

i think you should only wear rip city jerseys when you plan to play with passion.

that said i think a red away rip city would look pretty sweet. especially if it says rip city on batums chest when he dunks on the other teams center and he has to stare at the words all up in his grill after being posterized

I agree, they aren't worthy to wear them this year.

If they wore these jersey's every week, it would just become another jersey and would not be anything special. Once month, or every couple weeks in this condensed fubar season would be sufficient.

Yeah, you have to keep them unique by making them something of a rarity. I say once a month at the most. And as cool as an away Rip City jersey might seem, you can't really sport something that says Rip City when you're not actually in Portland. Kind of how there would be no significance in San Antonio wearing their Chaps jerseys at an away game (except maybe against the Mavericks or Rockets).

yeah i suppose rip city is better for home but they should make red ones for the fan shop cause id snag a lamarucs and hang it next to the 12 west.

if Seattle gets a team i say we come in wearing rip city though.

Added an update to the original post. I forgot we played in them one other time. It was on November 26th, 2010 against the Hornets. If I remember correctly, that was Brandon's first-game back from injury and we got stomped, 97-78.

I see the only way JJ stays is if we were able to trade LA for a dominant center, which I really do not see happening. But we would still have the same awful interior defense if we kept both. It''s not just one on one defense against opposing bigs...

Cmeese, his year would''ve been better without the injury, if he could maintain the first half of the year production that''d be great. But I have to agree that his contract is a little too much. I think he should really be worth around 8 mil.

Exactamundo. Seriously though, both of you''ll are right. The blame should be placed on the attacker, not Lillard. That being said, Dame should have stepped in.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn''t see much court time and from what I saw didn''t real...
