But like dozens of players who went to the D-League like Johnson, the initial snub meant the road back to the NBA would have to be earned 10 days at a time. He did it three times.

“I heard some bad stuff about the D-League but didn’t know anything about it,” Johnson says after Portland’s shootaround last Monday. “I assumed there was opportunity to get that much closer to the NBA… I gave 100 percent and things worked out just as I dreamed it.”

“Really my D-League coaches tell the whole team you just can’t go and expect to be a go-to guy,” Johnson says. “You have to go in and know you’re a role player and not even play. You have to do what’s expected of you. Nate (McMillan) told me he wanted energy from me, just coming in with energy, block shots, get rebounds and he doesn’t care if you make mistakes.”
Everything seemed to be in flux but his defense. Knowing the teams weren’t about to open up much of the playbook for someone who might only be there for just 10 days, he says he took advice from Camby, Garnett, Ray Allen and LaMarcus Aldridge about how to make the most of his time in uniform.

Great story. He knows his role and is a good insurance policy to have. I am a little worried that he couldn't get off the bench when Camby went down. Although he's a great weak-side shot blocker and provides a lot of energy, his think frame allows for shorter, stockier players to bully him around under the glass. Will CJ ever be able to get past being skinny as a center in today's NBA?

Give him some minutes Coach, it's not like he's gonna make us any worse. Maybe a youth unit is what this team needs?

Agreed, and not just with CJ. I don't understand why McMillan thinks that an 8-man rotation will work especially in this kind of season. We have unused weapons in Chris Johnson, Nolan Smith, Elliot Williams, and Craig Smith. Even if those weapons aren't as big and as proven as their counterparts, they are still useful if the coach knows how to time substitutions right.

I never pegged Damian as the entourage kinda guy. I figured more by himself, probably has one or two friends that he''s really really tight with, close with his family.

Maybe we should go for Pekovic as a restricted free agent and see what Minn will do.

Time will tell. As it is well known round these parts, I do not have much hope for athletic big men. (JJ Hickson doesn''t count).

Okay, I''ll admit it, I like Asik better. I definitely think they will both have very good careers. And finally, someone who agrees, that Ibaka is a  shot blocker, not really a great defender.

Magic have a center and tons of young talent, extra picks and a future with a lot of cap space so yah the MAGIC.

Henson will be solid down the road but his ceiling is more like Taj Gibson. He is a great role player but not elite like Sanders and Ibaka could be if people were not so willing to shoot on him.
