The refs. Yeah, you heard me. There has been SO MUCH bad officiating across the league this year. I almost don't want to credit anyone for their current records, good or bad. I don't care what your philosophy is. If you think "it shouldn't make a difference" I beg to differ. The reffing staff can and does affect the outcome of a given game, and it's to the point where it's going to take another lock out to set things straight on the officiating side.

So my question is this: what can/should be done to raise the standards officials are held to in the NBA? I know MLS referees are reviewed after every game, and receive rewards and demerits based on their performance. This may also be the case in the NBA, but it seems like it takes A LOT of demerits for anything to happen to NBA refs.

i completely agree the NBA seems more rigged than ever as it moves to big business over good sport. the "super teams" sell merchandise and tickets and NBA league pass subscriptions to all the chinese fans. that's all stern cares about so i wouldn't doubt if that's why the refs seem to be biassed toward these teams, and actual good teams like the pacers grizzlies and blazers get screwed.

Compare it to the officiating of any other major sport league in the US (NFL, MLB, MLS, NHL), and you will see the following:

-The NBA (and MLB) have the least balance between their top and bottom teams, meaning if your team isn't good, don't expect much to change in the near future... but if your team is doing well, expect to pay more and more IMMEDIATELY... yet despite this, even the "low" teams' ticket prices average higher than any league but the NFL.

-The NBA has the LEAST recently updated officiating policies in regards to technological updates such as video review. All other leagues listed above have made adjustments to their policies since the last change made in the NBA.

-The MLS and NHL, like Pickett mentioned, both have policies in place that after every game, referee performance is reviewed, and if accuracy or credibility is at all questionable... we all see less of that ref for a while. I couldn't find any information regarding a similair policy in the NFL, MLB, or NBA, which, coincidentally, all make more money and traditionally have less balance than the MLS or NHL.

Reign in the off-court moneymakers and keep Sports to being about millionaire athletes playing for their fans (yes, that's cynicism, but it IS how Sport is supposed to be). This starts by keeping outside influences out, and making sure the only rules on the court are the rules of the game, and physics. Refs NEED to be impartial and if that can't be assured, they can't be refs.
I am a fan of BLAZER BASKETBALL. Not drafts, not business, not trades, not David Stern. Just BLAZER BASKETBALL.

I flat out called out LA''s poor passing in a thread a few months ago. His passing is so much better than when he was young but he needs to get better.
