What exactly are we "dumping"? Because right now, all he is, is a roster spot. We're paying him a million dollars and in NBA money, that's chump change. Why not just keep him around for a 3 years/3 million dollar deal? That deal is so minuscule it won't affect our cap space and if by some stroke of good luck he comes back, then we struck gold. If it doesn't pan out then whatever. Very low risk, really high reward. He still is only 23.

He needs a change from this context, which is only a reminder of his bodies failure, sometimes a change of scenery and new voices in ones life can help with perspective and hopefully healing. Get better man and do well. I think we as fans need to turn the page on Oden as well. The narrative is a bit tired, I'm a bit sick of hoping he can soon shine in a blazer uniform only to hear of another setback. That narrative drains my energy.

Agreed with Kenny C. I wish him well, but he does not need to be in Blazers long term goals.  They need to go to free agency to get a good solid young center that can be groomed by Camby and Thomas.  They both have another one or two years in them, that is enought to get someone young and groom them.  Or have them work with Chris Johnson (who needs a nutritionist to help him put on about 40 pounds) and make him the center of the future.

I see both sides.  1.5 million is nothing, but in a year where the Blazers are going to have a ton of options, do we need every cent under the cap that we can get?  I think he's more of a burden to fan morale than the organization as a whole.  I don't think he's ever going to back to NBA form, and if he does, I don't see him being physically or mentally the Greg Oden we want to see.  If the Blazers know something we don't, then keeping him around for a few more years may be smart.  I go back and forth on this situation daily LOL
