It does raise the question of whether the team would be better served using that roster spot on a currently healthy player, especially if this surgery assures that he won't play this year.

heres the way i see it:
surgery causes him to be out for the season--- We only have him on contract through that point--- we are only paying him 1.5mil--- cut him and sign a warm body, anyone would be better!

I think it's safe to say that we will never see Greg in a Blazers jersey again he needs to retire and think about he's future because even if he goes to another team what makes you think he still won't have injury problems this is just a sign that Greg wasn't meant to play in the NBA, But i hope he has a sucessful procedure and a speedy recovery.

Hang in there big man, I hope these corrective surgeries will be very helpful for Greg. We're not giving up on Oden, we've seen what he can do.

Greg can do what he wants, go wherever he wants, and either play basketball or go back to the Ohio State and get a job doing something with their team. My point being this: it's unrealistic to sit around counting down the indefinite days before Oden comes back, seeing it as the second coming of our first-pick messiah. It's also a bit harsh to say "cut him loose, he's worthless, take him out back and shoot him..." If, before next season, Greg is back to even 80% of himself. Then I have no problem with him suiting up in a Blazer uniform. It would be tragic if he goes to another team and ends up being a dominant center. But that means we invested in him in the wrong time or maybe, just maybe, we beat up his knees worse than college did. (I mean a disproportionate amount of Blazers end up with knee problems... is it possible there's something that could cause that beyond superstitious curses?)

We should have some humanity and wish him well as a fellow human - get better man! That said, we do need a big man, so cut him, he can then go on living as a millionaire, then we can sign someone healthy, seriously!

Thanks for putting it so succinctly. That's exactly my thoughts. We've probably come to terms with the fact that he won't be our center of the future. But there's no reason to hate the guy when he's going through all kinds of problems. I hope he gets healthy. And I really do hope he can become a valuable NBA player if it's in the cards for him.

Rookies are fine a team should be able to carry 5 of them easily. The problem with us last year was we had no depth in front of the rookies. Lillard and Leonard as lottery picks should have gotten lots of playing time, which they did. However, Bar...
