Which player will see their minutes increased with Batum out?
    Elliot Williams (10)
     50%
    Luke Babbitt (1)
     5%
    Craig Smith (9)
     45%

At the conclusion of last night's game against the Utah Jazz, Nicolas Batum went down with a left knee injury as he was driving to the basket with the Trail Blazers down by two. He has already had his MRI in Portland today and we are patiently waiting for the results. Stay right here as we'll keep you updated as soon as word comes down.

It looked terrible when it happened. I'm just glad it's not as bad as it looked. Thought he was gonna be gone for the season until he was hobbling on his own.

So sorry Nic, but so glad it is nothing more than a bruise.  It is time for somebody else now to step up and be the man so Nic can heal completely and not worry about the team.  It looked really awkward and painful when he went down, really stretched that left side of his left knee.  So glad it was nothing serious. GO BLAZERS!!

I think he may miss the Kings game as well. It's a back to back and he even said so himself today during practice. I think best case scenario is he returns for the game against the Nuggets this Saturday.

I like him coming back vs the Nuggets also but, I would'nt mind if he came back vs the Thunder. This is a perfect oppertunity for Elliot Williams to get mins and maybe crack the rotation.

I would like to see more Elliot Williams.  I just love watching him play, and this is his opportunity to prove to Nate that he deserves playing time.

I still wish that we would have had the rookie league in vegas this summer, that would have been huge for our back-up pg position with three young and unproven guys battling for that spot. I like A.Johnson but he seems to be last in the race for Nate, but i know next to nothing about our other two guys as they have barely seen the court at all this season.. Damn lockout really screwed up that portion of our rotation, and i feel like we wont know for some time who is the top dog between N.Smith and E.Williams, and neither will get much play time this season.

This is the year of the proven players, young talent is hard to find and build on when you have no preseaon and next to no practice days.

hope he gets better soon, love his aggressiveness lately.

as far as proven talent nate is responsible too. it almost seems like he is terrified to give the young guys a shot as he might get canned if they loose because he didn't play a star or something. i dont care what your name is if you're a starter and you are acting like you want a night off then coach should sit them and play someone who wants to play. im a blazer fan because our team has always been the best hustle, when joel pryzbilla was our best player everyone still battled and thats how he got his reputation. portland loves hustle and the laziness some games this season is ticking me off we have too much talent to be 12-9 right now. portland is passionate, they gave us a soccer team and look at how our city shows up and supports the team first year of existence and we had the best fans in soccer. all we want is effot. that's why crash has his name chanted in the RG so much cause he hustles at home. let's see that same hustle on the road, from everyone.

Batum has been trying, i see a bit more aggression every game. slowly giving up that corner and cutting. i want him back! glad it's not major cause when i saw the reply i yelled ACL and punched my wall.

haha wallpunched here too when i saw Nic go down. And I agree, Nate shouldn't be afraid to bench a player if they're not lookin like their top selves, ESPECIALLY in a season where the lack of training camp, practices, and general rest gives somewhat of an understandable excuse for not being able to run 100% for every game.

This is to our advantage really, with the depth of our roster, and a great chance for Coach McMillan to finally prove that he really IS the intelligent, strategic coach that we've been led to believe; now is the time for him to break his rigid and predictable habits, and instead of making a shorter rotation, play it by ear and win with his gaming instinct as a coach and former player. Loosen up Nate, cuz we've got a great squad and when they all find their pace they're takin you to the playoffs again, and you need to learn to be creative before we get there!

Austin... while I agree that the lockout hurt our young guys, I think I'm on the exact opposite side of the debate over which of our young pg's are next in line.

First off, you mentioned wanting to know who's the top dog between N.Smith and E.Williams... this isn't even the matchup at pointguard! EW is very much a shooting guard, and an athletic one at that where he might one day also play as a small forward... but he's not a point guard. Right now, Elliot is our 3rd stringer behind Wesley and Jamal, and maybe for Nic while he's down.

The pointguard matchup you're talking about is between Nolan Smith and Armon Johnson, but the reason you probably thought it was the other two is, like you said about Nate, most of us feel that AJohnson has drastically underperformed in the NBA. Like Babbitt, he has great games in the D-League. But when he moves back to our roster, he consistently loses the ball and misses passes or shots.

Nolan Smith, on the other hand, backed up the best pg in the NCAA last year, AND filled his shoes nicely when the #1 went down with injury. So far in his minutes as a Blazer, he's shown pretty sweet potential to light a fire and keep a high tempo without having ridiculous turnovers.

I'm surprised you said you only know AJohnson of the 3, because he's received easily the least minutes of any of our young players this season. Babbitt, Williams, and Smith have all gotten a fair chunk o garbage minutes, and seem to be increasing that chunk as we progress. Right now, our pg lineup is Felton, sometimes Crawford, and then Smith with a comfortable gap ahead of Johnson.

agreed nolan smith has showed great potential so far this season and if (knock on wood) felton went down, I wouldn't be too worried about him playing 20-30minutes a night, I think he would learn quite quickly. armon johnson has never impressed me though last night in garbage time i think he finally realized he needed to work to get some garbage minutes back, his lob that babbit screwed up to eliot was going to be a thing of beauty and he looked better than i've seen him previously. but i wouldn't trust him running the team in an important game yet. EW is a shooting guard, i imagine with his speed he could learn the point, but i'd rather have him cutting to the basket off the ball than being the primary handler.
