Can Portland make the playoffs *IF* Batum is out for an extended period of time?
Yes - Still a lot of depth at the wing (3)
     50%
No - He's been our only consistent shooter from the 3 (3)

6:00 PM | Energy Solutions Arena | Salt Lake City, UT
    Trail Blazers (12-8) @ Jazz (11-7)

The first of four divisional games after rival Utah takes place tonight in Salt Lake City as the Trail Blazers look to solve their road woes in an arena which hasn't been kind to Rip City -- only four wins in Salt Lake since 2000-01. On the plus side, two of those wins came just last year. On the other hand, that was against a Jazz team in the midst of losing their superstar player (Deron Williams) and iconic coach (Jerry Sloan). The 2011 version of the Utah Jazz seemingly packed it in once those two occurrences took place. But this year's Jazz have been one of the biggest surprises in the entire NBA, winning 11 of their first 18 games, including yet another solid showing at home (9-3).

Normally, I'd say a good start is what we need to take down the Jazz in Utah but after the Warriors erased our 10-point first quarter lead in the bat of an eye, I think it's more important to just "hang around." Portland needs to keep the score within 5-6 points the entire night and then use their superior talent to take down the Jazz in the final frame.

The X-Factor tonight for the Trail Blazers is help for Marcus Camby. He shut down Marc Gasol and stymied Marcin Gortat; two red-hot centers who power their team's engine. Unfortunately for Portland, Utah possesses a plethora of bigs to wear the Blazers down. Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter will be a load tonight and Portland can't expect Camby to play a full 48 and contain each and every one of Utah's inside presences. This means we need a HUGE night from LA on the glass, Rhinko putting in points in the paint and Kurt spreading the floor with his pick-and-pop jumper. Portland gets one break as it appears that Al Jefferson and Raja Ball will not be in action tonight.

I expect Crash to finally have a good game on the road I know he has the hurt finger but, we saw how it wasn't really a factor in the Suns game and when he has it going we are nearly unbeatable.

I agree with CarlJ1. We need Crash to be the real Crash on the road. We expect him to be as good as he was at home...

Huge game required for Portland. Remember when the Jazz beat us up in the 2nd preseason game? Well, they've been playing like that pretty much ever since. We need to start pulling away from some of these guys in our division. We need a statement game. THIS IS OUR NW DIVISION!!

Agreed, pickett. On the plus side the Blazers haven't been on the short end of the FT stick very much this season compared to last.  I probably won't feel so forgiving if Portland loses tonight lol.  This is a big game.

All right... I still blame the refs. But my lord... do you think we could've gotten ONE stinking rebound in a key moment?

Hopefully this proves that Wesley Matthews needs to get benched. When shooting 5 or more shots his FG% has only gone over 50% FIVE times in 20 games. He should not be making over 6 mill and needs to take some bench time.

First, it's not the refs. You can't keep shooting jumper after jumper on the road and expect to win. We had a major mismatch down low with LA and we went away from it.
Second, the result doesn't matter. I honestly could care less right now. If Batum has a torn acl or anything of that nature, we are in a world of hurt. I truly hope it's just a minor hyperextension or something like that. We can't afford to lose Nico for any period of time right now, especially with Wesley, Ray and Jamal in shooting funks.

This team is underachieving worse then 2000-01 squad, come on. We need a coach thats gonna light a fire under this team cause they are just messing around half the time. Detroit? Phoenix? Orlando? Some of these games its like they are cruising

This team overachieved early and now you see what they really are.

Portland blew this game and the Wolves looked great on the road. The gap is now two games and closing. Go Wolves.

If Wesley, Raymond, and Jamal are all shooting so badly why not try out guys like Elliot Williams and Nolan Smith. Its not like they can do much worse.

I'm with Jason. It's time to give Elliot some minutes. Not only has he hit his shot when he got in the game but he can create his own shot as well. Wesley seems to falter if his 3 point shot isn't dropping. Teams are begging Ray to shoot from the outside, like teams do to Rondo. And Jamal just can't seem to decide when and when not to shoot.

    Post-Game Quotes:

Nate McMill on his game thoughts:
“We simply got outworked. I mean that’s what it comes down too. That team wanted it more than we did, it showed in their play. You’ve got to be hungry out here, especially on the road and Utah wanted it more than we did tonight.”
LaMarcus Aldridge on where the team faltered:
“I really don’t know, I’ll have to go back and look. I think we definitely have to value each possession from me to the last person, I think we have to value each possession more and I think we have to be more killer mindset when we have somebody down we have to put our foot on their throat. I think we get too complacent sometimes and let them come back.”
Wesley Matthews on difference in second half:
“We missed shots and they started capitalizing on it. They shot 38 free throws, they outrebounded us, had 18 offensive rebounds, every hustle stat that it takes to win the game, they did.”

There is honestly no point whatsoever in your having a profile on this site. Take your T-Wolves' flattery to their forums. You have some serious issues if you have to sign up for a team's forum just to root against it.

By the way, I know it wasn't the refs, they're just the easiest to blame. The truth is that Portland has either been heating up late or cooling down early in every game this season. I think Phoenix has been the only game where I really saw what I would've expected from this Blazer roster. Tonight, they just crumbled in the second half... and that was after a couple days off.

I agree we need to see some players like Nolan and E-Will, especially when nobody else is producing anyway. I am getting tired of Wesley's game after these couple of years, and I'm starting to think more than just benching him; what about trading him? We've barely seen a stable rotation all year, and Nate needs to get his act together before this season gets much worse. You can only say "the players didn't execute" so many times before you have to re-evaluate oddball rotation decisions like Gerald at the 4, Crawford at the point, etc.

All that to say something's gotta give! (And lord knows I'm not talking about Nic's knee on this one.)

1.Look at most of the teams loses, most of them are by 4 points or less,so basically they are in all the games, only the Phoenix game was a blowout. This means our team IS very talented and could easily have a better record, we are definatley underachieving obviously, that blame normally goes to the coach.

2.Go Wolves? What are you talking about.Have you ever even been to minnesota? You do know the average woman in minnesota weights 260 pounds,so enjoy my friend, theres more cushin for your measly pushin'

I used to freak out when Bayless wouldn't get a few minutes. But seeing Elliot Williams go through the same thing is ridunkulous. Light the fuse Coach, this team needs some dynamite added to the rotation.
