I assume G. Wallace will walk and that we may re-sign Batum or the other way around.
As I've watched the games and wondered how and when the Blazers will add a big body that plays like Craig Smith I decided to see who will be available in the middle when the season closes. I already knew that McGee is going to be shopped around, but there is a quality group of big men that will be available. I assume that Howard will move before the deadline and be in a Laker uniform, somehow.

The fellows available after him are a very strong group. We should work to get one of them - my three faves are above. The 2012 free agent(restricted and unrestricted) list is linked here -

I like chris kaman, he seems to be quite underrated and would probably go for a low price

Nice link. I couldn't help but look at the PG also, seeing as felton is giving us much for shooting production. D williams definitely jumped out. TO bad he likes the spotlight teams. But maybe I'm wrong. To be honest the blazers have more cap space for Howard then most teams. But we aren't the big name hes looking for either.

as for howard, espns trade machine says this works (wont ever happen but techniquely works):

    Camby/Batum/Felton for Howard/Duhon
(could create issues regardless though with two scoring bigs but not much perimeter shooting, teams would pack all 5 guys in the paint vs aldridge/howard and we would go stagnent

I wish the Blazers will keep Batum as he has been playing well for the past few games...He's starting to be more consistent every game...I hope that the Blazers would realize it and sign him...Batum has been contributing well on the team...

I think Portland should go after Kevin Love. He is everything portland is lacking on the hustle board stats.

if we had love we'd have not shot blockers LA is a decent shot blocker but know means is he elite he gets in foul trouble alot when he goes for block love isnt a shot blocker in any sense of the word we wouldnt have that presence down low

Love is far to similar to Aldridge. Better perhaps, but we would never be able to get him without giving up an arm and a leg which would just not be worth it (see NY for the best example of two similar stars coming together via trade and failing).

I would trade an extra 15 rebounds per game for 3 blocked shots any day.

It wasn't 2 stars that failed in NY it was Anthony not fitting and that was predictable.
They would give up nothing, let both Batum and Wallace walk which equals what would be 15-18 million $
Batum isn't developing and Wallace, as much as I love him, has at best 2 years left.
Let LA play at small forward, Love at Power.

I think our weekness is pg, i think we need to bundle and go after williams/rondo, a pg that is good at defense, will make plays without aldridge in the game, we play similar styles with aldridge in and out of the game, which isnt right because we dont have a good scoring pf off the bench, if we hand rondo or williams, the drive and dish game makes total sense with shooters like battum/crawford/mathewes

i wonder how you figure you are going to get Love here since he just signed a 4yr contract with the Wolves. We will have to trade half our roster to pry him free, much like NY did for Anthony, We would be bare bones for two far to similar players for that to be benificial, unfortunately it would have to be LA or Love in portland, and dont even think for a second the portland front office would part with the L-Train.

rondo makes 10mil a year, williams makes more than that. Who would we send away to match those contracts without really putting a dent into our rotation?

    Felton - 7.5 mil
    Oden - 1.5 mil
    Mills - 1.2 mil

Camby is getting nearly 13 million with likely incentives, more than any Blazer this year. Will he retire? would we resign him if he wants to play another year?

    Mills? Lol?

And honestly, Camby, despite his age, is still easily one of the most dominant centers when it comes to stats outside of scoring. He's not particularly injury prone, he knows our team, and loves Portland... so yeah, if he wanted to give us another year, don't know if I'd give him another 13mil (wouldn't voluntarily give that to ANY pro athlete, of course), but if someone else is cutting the check, then yeah, sign him up as a Blazer.

While I agree on the rebounding point, I don't see your angle with our small forwards. Wallace is only 30, maybe 31 and with his athleticism and fitness, he'll probably play another 5 years (not that his production will stay quite at the same level). He's kind of like a younger Grant Hill, and I expect a similar run from him. If you think Batum isn't developing, you must not have been watching Blazer basketball 2 years ago. The kind of scoring, passing, and handling he's been doing this season is miles above his play in the 2009-2010 season.

For the money especially, I like the idea of bringing Brooke Lopez to PDX. There's the slight problem that he'll be restricted, which means he would really have to want to come to the Blazers for NJ not to match whatever we offered. Of course I entertain the idea of getting Dwight Howard, but honestly I just don't see him fitting in with Portland. Not just because he wants to be a big-market franchise player, but because I don't think he could handle a place where all the players get along with each other... as weird as that sounds.

Oden would not pass a physical and mills isnt even in the NBA. Swing and miss my friend. Not to mention paired with felton they would probably want to bring a larger talent ie batum/matthews.

When I say Wallace has 2 years left  at best I'm talking about how long he will be able to maintain his current output. There is no way he will be able to keep up the intensity he has put out the last several years. He's not a great jump shooter so he will have nothing to fall back on when his body stops allowing him to play as he does now.

Batum has improved yes, but he is not turning into the player we all hoped. He's built and talented enough to easily average a double double every game. Right now it is pretty rare for a double figure rebound game for him. He's still too soft. With the playing time he gets in Portland I don't see him progressing much more.

    I'm all for Brooke Lopez.

LOL sorry I wasn't referring for a trade for Rondo. Part of my post was deleted somehow.

I was referring to money being paid to players that will be free agents next year. While a big trade would be hard to pull off this year, it looks like there should be some money available for a possible big signing next year.

I appreciate everyone's comments. I, like all of you, am excited for an improvement in on-court chemistry. Felton will continue to develop, whether it's going to benefit the Blazers or not will play out. I'm patient - consistency from the others is key. Do we have a bunch of Rocks, M&Ms or Marshmallows. Brandon was/is a rock, Lamarcus seems to be transitioning from an M&M to a Rock; most of the rest are Marshmallows right now...

With the Bobcats talent right now it seems like a good bet that the pick would be within the top 10 in one of the next 3 years.

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
