Trail Blazers (11-8) vs. Suns (6-11)

There is no rest for the weary as the Trail Blazers take on the Suns just one day after playing three games in as many nights. Although they stubbed their toes in the Bay Area, Portland looked impressive in dismantling the Memphis Grizzlies who strolled into town with a seven-game winning streak. Don't let the 11-8 record fool you, these Trail Blazers have talent and they put it on full display in front of their fans at the Rose Garden where they are a Western Conference leading 8-1. Along with being home dominant there's a whole other issue playing in Portland's favor heading into Friday night's contest: The Phoenix Suns whipped Rip City to the tune of a 25-point blowout just three weeks earlier down in the Valley of the Sun. The Blazers may be tired but there's no way they've forgotten that one.

Just as we saw in defeat against the Rockets (Lowry), Pistons (Stuckey) and Warriors (Curry), Portland must contain opposing point guards. The story was no different when the two teams met back on January 6th when Steve Nash sliced and diced the Blazer defense, racking up 17 points, on a perfect 7-7 shooting, and handing out 9 assists. If it means putting a defender like Batum on Nash all night, then do it. The best way to disrupt the Suns is to make other players not named Steve Nash make decisions on the court.

The matchup to watch is in the middle as Marcus Camby will have his hands full again as he tries to stymie the red-hot Marcin Gortat. Gorat is nearly averaging a double-double on the season (15.4 points, 9.9 rebounds) and has been a man on a mission over his past three games. Against Toronto, Dallas, and Boston, the Polish Hammer put up over 21 points and nearly 14 rebounds per contest. Camby did it once already, shutting down the reigning Western Conference Player of the Week, Marc Gasol. Uncle Cam held the Spaniard to just 7 points and 4 rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Also of note, Phoenix reserve center Robin Lopez, will not be in action as he's serving a one-game suspension.

The game is at home so I automatically feel like this should be a win. My goal is for the team to blow them out of the water which would allow a lot of the reserves to get some shine. I really want to see what Elliot and Nolan can do given extended time.

I was really impressed by every Blazer tonight.  Even the rookies/younger players went in, played hard and made some impressive plays.  If we could have everyone play this well on the road we'd be nearly unstoppable.

POTG was probably Marcus Camby but I went with Elliot because he came in off the bench, completely cold and not seen game action in quite some time but he played like it was no big thing. He has a smooth jumper and can create his own shot, which is a major plus on the wing. His dunks gave me chills and I think this kid is going to be the next big thing in Rip City. Let's just hope he continues to see minutes come his way as the season progresses.

    From the TrailBlazersPR Twitter account-
Marcus Camby is the first ever Trail Blazer with 20 rebounds and no points and the first in the NBA since he himself did it on Dec. 5, 2007.

Also of note, of the 13 Trail Blazers who saw action tonight, not one registered a negative in the +/- stat line.

    A few Post-Game Quotes:

Nate McMillan on going to Crawford & Batum early in the 2nd quarter-
"Thinking about my rotation - you’re trying to rotate ten guys. I wanted to shorten that rotation. I want to see Nic and Gerald on the floor at the same time. That lineup has been pretty good for us at times whether Nic is at the 2 or the 3 and Gerald is at the 3 or the 4, but getting those guys out there. I thought Nic really was solid on the ball tonight guarding Nash and making him work.”
McMillan on Wesley Matthews finding his shot after an 0/4 first half-

“I firmly believe that defense gets you moving and guys tend to play in a better flow when they’re playing defense. The unfortunate part about it is that a lot of guys want to see the ball go in the basket before they start playing defense. But tonight he came out, he worked, he took his shot when it was there. He didn’t hesitate; he was looking for it and shot it with confidence. It was good to see the ball go in the hole for him. He can shoot the ball and tonight he didn’t hesitate.”

LaMarcus Aldridge on how effective outside shooting makes life easier on him-

“It makes it easier, definitely. I think I started to try to pass it more tonight when they started making those shots. I started trying to find Wes when he got it going, tried to find Gerald for a couple shots. It definitely makes it easier for me down low.”

I''m not talking about those kinda calls, but phantom calls. Kobe gets soooo many phantom calls. I like Lebron, but I know because he''s a superstar he gets certain actions overlooked. Kobe just gets random stuff called. Remember when Kobe smacked...

Oh, sorry Damian, you make so many I stopped reading them. I don''t because I don''t know much about salaries and stuff. Stephenson would be great, excellent rebounder, Tough Defender, is playing awesome in  today''s  game.

Siccolo, did you mean heavier or lighter? I don''t think Noel will do well in the league. If he stays healthy long enough, he might be a half decent starter, if not, Greg Oden.

Damian, you are completely right on that, let''s just hope it''s not a negative impact (Shout out, Ray Ray). And since when did people WANT to come to Portland? This is great.

joint option for year three at like 8 million. Then if he works out you got him for a bargain for 2-3 years and if not it costs only 1.2 million for next year.

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
