Trail Blazers (9-7) vs. Kings (6-11)

Home sweet, home! That's what the Trail Blazers must be thinking after their six-game road trip resulted in only two wins. But what awaits Portland is the vaunted back-to-back-to-back starting with the Sacramento Kings -- a team they handled by 22 points, 101-79, on the second game of the season. Although the Kings head to into the Rose City with a sub .500 record, you can believe they will get the Trail Blazers' full attention after falling to the previously three-win Detroit Pistons.

Sacramento has won two of their past three games including a home win over the Pacers and a road victory over the previously unbeaten Spurs at the AT&T Center. And they've done so without their major free agent coup, Chuck Hayes who is out for a few weeks with a separated shoulders. This should come as good news to LaMarcus Aldridge who has scored over 20 points in seven straight games and Hayes has been one of the few post defenders who has given LA fits over the years. Luckily early foul trouble send LA to the bench in the first half against Detroit, forcing him to play only 34 minutes. Had he not picked up two quick fouls, he likely would have played over 39 minutes, making it the fifth straight game playing as many minutes. And with the tri back-to-back coming up, fatigue will surely become a factor, making it important as ever to get consistency from the role players.

A bright spot for the Trail Blazes has been the play of starting point guard, Ray Felton. Felton accumulated 14 points and 5 assists all while committing only two turnovers against Toronto, including big second half buckets to ice the win, which was followed by 20 points, 9 assists, and only two turnovers against the Pistons. Ray should have his way running the offense against either Sacramento point guard -- Tyreke Evans or Jimmer Freddette. If Ray can get into the middle of the Kings defense and not only finish at the rim but get our shooters wide open looks, the Trail Blazes will win. Not only will Portland feed off of the crowd but the best way to get guys like Wesley and Jamal going is letting them shoot spot-up, open shots which Felton excels at.

Just under two weeks ago we were 7-2 and best in the west, now were 9-7 and 10th in the west! Ya that's right were currently out of the playoff race. If you guys don't remember, the last couple seasons we were always among the best in the nba on second night of a back to back! Hate to say it but:/
    Analysis so far:
    1) 6-1 at home
    2) 3-6 on the road:?
    3) 1-4 on second night of back to back
    4) Teams we've lost to have combined record of 60-50, so decent.
    5) 6 players average double figures, good!
    6) 5 of our 7 losses have been by 5 points or less, Others were double digit blowouts!
I am a fan of of the L-Train and Batman slamming one home, and Wes holstering his 3 goggles!

The unfortunate thing about going 2-4 on the road is the fact we now HAVE to make up for it with wins as home. Are we dominant at home? Yes, but now there's an extra pressure to protect home court.

Seriously, when will we see Elliot and Nolan get some run? Nolan has already proven he deserves 15 minutes a night at backup point guard and at this point, I don't think Elliot can do any worse than Wesley or Jamal is doing right now. And let's not forget how many minutes our core players are getting. Nate really needs to cut the minutes down so these guys don't wear down at the All-Star Break.

    Post-Game Quotes

    Nate McMillan on Craig Smith-
Smith has been a calming effect, I mean a guy who we’ve been going to here lately. He’s been making good plays. He’s been able to allow us to rest LaMarcus, been somewhat of a go-to guy. So we’ve kind of got that balance with that second unit now. It’s not just jacking jump shots up. We have an inside presence that we can go to and he has made good decisions with the ball.”
Jamal Crawford on the difference in his game-
“Honestly, talking to Coach McMillan, talking to LaMarcus, talking to Ray, Larry Miller, all those guys – just play. You’ve got to be the person that you’ve been before you came. You cant try to fit in, that’s not why we brought you here. What you bring to the table is what we need so be that person. So coming into the game, I just felt good. It was a fresh start. I cleared my head and I said this is day one all over again… I’m just playing. I’m just hooping. Good or bad, I’m just going to be aggressive and be the person I have been my whole career.”

    McMillan on Crawford-

“I thought his shots, he played within the flow of the game. He took some good shots. Offensively, we ran some sets for him at the two-position and he made his shots. Defensively, he was pretty active and that group in the second quarter just forced some turnovers to create that momentum and we kind of rode that throughout the game.”

I too think Craig was the player of the game. He kept us in the game with his points in the paint and relentless hustle. Then it was time for Jamal and LA to take care. But, really it was started by the Rhino. He may just be the biggest surprise outside of Ricky Rubio.

As long as we have Victor Claver on our team we can do anything. (That was a bad joke)

Thank you, Knorton. Now more rebuilding or anything. No rookie nonsense. Get a solid Defensive big. Trade every single pick to get it.

Not sold on Muhammad. His offence isn''t really that great. Oladipo would be great, but I would trade it all for a defensive big.

I don''t trust big men with a history of injury. Ibaka also weighs more than Noel, but you''re right, early days yet, he could bulk up. I am sure, that he will lose some of his speed and athleticism when he does though. Wasn''t that one of his bes...
