Trail Blazers (7-2) vs. Magic (6-3)

The Trail Blazers look to close out their three-game homestand tonight with a win over the Magic before they head out on a six-game road trip. Portland made quick work of the Magic last season, sweeping the series. The March 7th contest in Orlando could have an asterisk by it since Orlando center Dwight Howard was suspended for that contest after he picked up his 16th technical foul the game prior and was forced to miss action.

Like the Clippers, the Magic have had two days off before taking on the Trail Blazers. And for Portland, this will be the second night of a back-to-back against a quality opponent. Unfortunately, Coach McMillan wasn't able to go deep into his bench as each starter played over 32 minutes, so fatigue could be a factor, especially for the 37-year old Marcus Camby who fought with DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin for 34 minutes last night and now has the unenviable task of muscling up Howard.

The key to beating the Magic has been and always will be three-point shooting. While Orlando shoots a sixth-best .379 from downtown, Portland is the NBA's best squad at defending the three-point line. In nine games so far this season, the opposition has only been able to connect 23.7% of the time. Don't worry about Howard. Let him get his. Just make sure the role players don't have big nights from beyond the arc. Both Ryan Anderson and Hedo Turkoglu rank in the top 10 in three-pointers made, second and tenth respectively. And while Jason Richardson has only made 11 of his 34 attempts on the season, Rip City knows all too well just how much J-Rich loves to heat up in our gym.

You pretty much have the gameplan as usual DHawes22 and it's also inportant to have a good and quick start get LA and Wallace going, run Wesley off some picks, have energy and rebound because there will be A lot of long shot from the magic since there an outside-in team instead of and inside-out team if we do that we should get our road trip off on the right foot.

I agree. Give Howard a heavy dose of KT, Rhino, and CJ tonight, and don't let anyone else hurt us, we win going away. Defense and rebounding will be the keys as always tonight, Orlando's transition defense is awful.

Last year at home we let Dwight Howard get 39 pts. and kept the rest of his team nearly scoreless. we won the game 97 - 83 and then went on to beat Phoenix in Phoenix the very next night. This year they have Jason Richardson who used to hurt us pretty bad. We need Wesley/Felton/Wallace to put a big hurt on guarding the perimeter. Offensively, I think we need Aldridge to really carry us tonight and hurt them coming off the bench. If we have the legs...I think we can run this team out of the RG...But we probably won't.

Chris Johnson has some fouls to give off the bench. Let him get out there and play aggresive on defense. Ball movement looked terrific against the Clippers last night. Magic are a little slower team then the Clippers, so if the Blazers can really scootch the ball around and play unselfish basketball, we can hope for another victory.

The Blazers already tried their best..16 3's for Orlando is just too much..All the blazers need to do is just getting ready for the road trip games..I love to see their energy on the fourth quarter..They did a great job!

Well It's hard to block shots when your opponent shoots 3's all day.

Was "lucky" enough to be in attendance in the RG for this one, and had a few observations.  Before the Crawford signing, I thought this Blazer team would finish a sub 500 team, given the schedule and the aging and shallow frontcourt.  This game illustrated my concerns from opening tip.  The defense was left on the floor the night prior, tired legs evident.  The game started with four straight lay-ups, at least two of which weren't even contested.  While the Magic did shoot the ball extremely well from behind the arc, those shots are made easy when there isn't a close out and the Magic have long been known to shoot the 3 very well collectively.  No excuses.

This road trip will be a defining one for this team moving forward...HUGE.  Our Blazers had arguably the easiest schedule in the league starting this season.  We are now feeling the effects of the condensed season the way the teams we played early and beat, were feeling it.  Can Portland's aging frontcourt stay healthy?  Rhino and Chris Johnson will likely have their numbers called more frequently on this trip.

I was very impressed with the run making the game interesting at the end.  Nate McMillan teams traditionally overachieve...a real credit to Nate and his abilities...and always play with heart.  I'm not sure there is another coach in the league that gets more from his players.

Sanders is a good fit, like to run, Pretty much the same offensive game as JJ, except JJ is a little better around the rim and has that close-mid range game. I think Henson is decent too. I didn''t get to see a lot of his game, as he didn''t play ...

You''re right. They should dump Monta though. I was thinking maybe the Rockets could use the number 1 pick to get the lakers to do a sign and trade for D12.

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
