The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to terms with guard Jamal Crawford. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We've thought highly of Jamal for a long time and think he's a great fit for our team," said Trail Blazers Acting General Manager Chad Buchanan. "He brings a scorer's touch and veteran leadership that will help us immediately."

After picking up veteran big man Kurt Thomas last week, Portland bolstered their bench further more by signing veteran swingman Jamal Crawford. Not only will Jamal provide instant offense off the bench but he can get off his own shot at any time. He thrives off the bench as he was named the NBA's 6th Man of the Year in 2010. Did you know he holds the NBA record for most 4-point plays in a game, half, and quarter? So can he help take Portland past the first round for the first time since 2000? If you're not sold on JCrossover now, take a peak at what he can do right here!

I'M SOLD :) seriously, i'm liking this roster. The most questionable spot is still the Bigs (a)can Oden get healthy, b)can we take the stress off Lamarcus a bit), but with the youth and speed, now coupled with not just 'potential' talent but some skilllllled, experienced players, I've got high hopes for this season. I think top 4 in the West is not just reasonable, but anything less would feel again like we'd dropped the ball somewhere.
But that being the low end of predictions, lets have fun and dream for a sec... If all these guys can come together, not hold themselves back and really leave it alllllll on the court, I don't know who can stop us. Let's take the West this year.

Yeah his game is eerily similar to Brandon's in some respects, this team will be nothing short of exciting and perhaps a contender in the West. Glad to see this, and that Nate has a good group coming into the season.

As for getting out of the first round, that was actually one of my thoughts exactly but it's a long season (even shortened). I think we are a team to contend with for something, if nothing else a good home record if the fans get in the games. Lot's of versatility, now I suppose it comes down to chemistry. Best free agent in recent memory by a long shot.

Tough ask. It really depends on who we come up against. Individually he could be the spark that gets us over the line in a couple of playoff games. Realistically, as mentioned above, we need Greg Oden fit and healthy ASAP to give us a solid run in the playoffs.

I'd say with Crawford, Thomas and Smith, the team filled all the big holes on the roster. Allow a couple weeks for the team to learn to play with each others, then expect big things. (not too big until next free agency)

I think even without Oden I can see the Blazers making it past the first round this season.

There's so much uncertainty surrounding most of the big contenders in the West this season, it seems at least possible that they wont have as hard of time getting past teams they've struggled with in the past, like the Lakers or Dallas.

Now addressing the question, can we get out of the first round? Absolutely. We have been 'able to' for the last couple seasons, we just didn't end up as winners. Now, can we 'expect' to win the first round? Well that's the prerogative only given to good teams. Will we be as good so that it'd be considered an 'upset' if we lose in the first round? We are not there yet. I'd say give it a season.

I think we should be Top 4/5 in the West. We finally have some depth again, which is so valuable during a shortened season. Honestly, when's the last time we've had a player like Crawford off the bench who can just score, score, score? Cliffy? Outlaw? These guys do not grow on trees and are few and far between. I'm beyond ecstatic over this signing. Our bench just went from one of the worst to one of the best in the entire NBA.

i love this signing.  Im a big crawford fan and I think we needed a wing player who can create their own shots to take pressure off Aldridge.   But with that said I think we still need to make a deal for a good center since camby and kurt thomas are way too old to be starters on a championship contending team.  I would love it if Oden could come back this season healthy, but I just dont see it happening so i think we need to trade for a good center

being a top 4/5 means there's pretty much 50% chance we'll get out of the first round. being a division top 3 makes it a given.  I think we can put OKC above us. Here are the factors that will put us to higher seeds. LAL, DAL, SAS's aged rosters will have tough time matching last year's success because of all the back to back games. Being in NW helps too because we get to play weakened Utah, Denver teams and laughable Minnesota 4 times each (I hope i'm correct on this one). Now if we realistically aim for no.3 seed, we'll have play so that only 2 teams are above us. If it happens I'd say OKC and only one from Lakers, Clippers (Huge X factor), Spurs and Mavs. Possible?

Yes !!!, after Roy and Oden problems that signing with Crawford can really push Blazers to second round ! I really hope that happen and can't wait to watch first games of the season. Crawford can shoot from every position and I think with other players can create very good team which could finally win out

I think Portland will end up the number 7 seed in the post season.  Jamal replaces Roy, Felton replaces Miller and the rest of the crew remains about the same.  I do not see any major upgrades so I feel we would not climb the seeded ladder into the upper teer.  Sorry  but that is my opinion.

Maybe I'm an optimist, but I think 7 is too low, Ricky.  Look at our competition in the west:

    1. Thunder--Young team, will be better than last year, biggest competition we'll see (potential title winners).
    2. Lakers--Didn't get CP3 or Dwight, let Odom go, team disheartened and disorganized.  Older team, no depth.
    3.  Mavericks--Letting lots of guys go to save cash for next year, older team (Kidd, Nowitzki, Marion)
    4.  Nuggets--Half their team is in China.  No depth, lots of uncertainty...
    5.  Clippers--Lots of new talent, will be tough, but will take a while for them to develop winning chemistry.
    6.  Jazz, Timberwolves, Warriors, Kings--Some ups, some downs, still should be teams we beat consistently.

We've got more depth and youth than just about any team in the West, and we're among the best now in talent.  Assuming Nic, Wes, and LaMarcus have all improved like they say, here are my predictions:

Prediction #1--Blazers end up top 4 in West, alongside Thunder, Mavs, and one other team (Lakers/Clippers?) and make it to 2nd round.

Prediction #2--IF Greg Oden gets healthy and can get back to playing consistent ~10 point / ~10 rebound nights, AND our young guys (esp. Nolan and E-will) step up their game, we make *and win* the W. Conf. Finals.

    Thoughts?

^What also hurts some of those competitions is that Dallas, Spurs and Memphis must battle each others in the brutally deep southwest division that also includes the Rockets. They better be glad CP3 is gone because all 5 teams were playoff worthy teams last season, but nonetheless they will be worn out by the end of the season.

I think that we will find that Felton will push the ball, something Miller never did.  Hope he can throw the ball up by the hole for Aldridge, as Miller did very well.  Crawford is a true scorer, something we simply haven't had in Portland for a very long time, and that excites me.  He's not known for playing defense, but last year Brandon was a defensive liability, and Nate will ask for that if he wants to be on the floor. Greg was gone all of last year, don't expect that to change, but nobody seems to realize we have a very good young talent in Chris Johnson.  If you watched the playoffs last year, this kid blocked shots, changed shots, and stayed on the floor for the minutes needed to spell Camby.  He is 7 feet tall, and very long, and came back bulked up a bit from last spring.  He was a development league all star, and defensive player of the year till we grabbed him,  With coaching, this kid will give us much needed depth in the middle & a true shot blocker.  I'm sorry Rudy is gone now that we have Felton to run the court with, but Nick will love it, and so will Wallace.  As far as getting out of the first round, who knows, but getting to the playoffs is real...we have a very weak schedule this year, which may not be as much fun as seeing Boston, the Bulls, Knicks, etc, but we will win games, and fans will go home happy from the Rose Garden.    I'm glad the Blazers finally made a good move getting Crawford, as there isn't much left out there in the free agent market.  Craig Smith was out half of last year, but if he can go, he can give us some needed rebounding and a few needed points down in the box and help Aldridge in that regard.

Before we all start talking about Playoff seeding, why don't we first see how this new Blazers team meshes over this shortened season.  If they come together and play better than in previous seasons, maybe then I will join in that conversation.  All of the opponents the Blazers will face this season, from the Lakers to every other team in the NBA are all going after the same goal, and that is to get into the playoffs and beyond, which means that they are all dangerous.  We can't afford to discount anyone.
I am a fan of the team with the brightest future, and wins more games than they lose.

The addition of a talented player like Crawford will no doubt help the Blazers. I think the key for them to get beyond the first round depends on their seeding. They need to get a top three seed in order to put themselves in a favorable position to smash through the first  round. They are usually a great home team but if you start the play offs on the road facing a team that is also a great home team then you are usually in trouble. In short, they need a better than average regular season. I think they are capable of doing it if they don't lose their focus. I am looking forward to a great season! GO BLAZERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Two wildcards that make it nearly impossible to predict playoffs just yet:
    1) blazers health (a huge liability in the last few years)
    2) new guys working in well with old guys with such a short preseason

I agree, the deterioration of the texas teams and LAL is inspiring, but the clips and thunder are scary, and you can never really count out kobe or dirk come playoff time.

One thing i can predict though: Boy this is gonna be fast and its gonna be fun!

I really like the addition of Crawford. I'll go with yes this addition will get them out of the 1st round.
As I say yes I do take pause to note some Western Conference teams did make moves to get better, especially the Clippers.  This year should see 10 teams battling for 8 spots right until the end.  Close playoff race.

We sure looked like a 2nd round team last preseason game against Utah. I was really impressed with Crawford ability to find the open man and know when to take the shot. He wasn't as much of a gunner as I thought he'd be and was much more in control as well. I think it's 2nd round or bust this year for the Blazers.

J is nice. Period. Second round, perhaps. I like Felton pushing the rock though. I particularly like the fact that Jamal can play some point for us. He can certainly stand to up his "D" game up,but Nate Mac will make sure he does. Chris Johnson can stand to put on a few pounds, but i love is nose for the ball. I cant wait to see him matched up against Deandre Jordan of the Clippers. Armon may not get any run this year because of Nolan. All in all, i really dig our squad.

After seeing last night's game, we really need a center. I have a feeling Camby will be out more than a few times during the season and when he's not in there, we get bullied around a lot. One option os hoping Greg comes back. The other is going out and trading for one. I'd like either Jazz big, Jefferson or Millsap and I think they could be had easily.

We still REALLY REALLY REALLY need another center. I would love a guy like Al Jefferson or someone like that who can score down low in the post, help out on the glass and just take the burden off of Aldridge. Camby is a phenomenal player but he just can't play many minutes and is becoming more and more injury prone as his career lengthens.

With the Lakers and Mavs being down, it would really be a travesty NOT to get out of the first round. We have the depth and the talent, we just need to be CONSISTENT. If we can hit our open shots, move without the basketball and have an injury-free season (knock on wood), we will finally win our first round series.

I love having a scorer like Crawford off the bench. Watching him last night get that bounce to his step was exciting and he's not the chucker I thought he would be when he signed. He just looks to make the proper play whether it be a shot or a pass. Also, his point guard skills are much nicer than advertised. This could go down as the sleeper pickup of the entire offseason.

No kidding dude. Jamal Crawford definitely started to show what kind of clutch playing he's capable of.
I don't know if people realize how lucky we got by getting him to join the Blazers... when it comes to the hole left in Brandon's absence, I'm convinced that there isn't a single active player in the NBA who would have been a better fit to fill that void. Everything from their skill pools and play on the court to their personal histories and quality of character are similar enough to scream "This is our guy. This guy's a Blazer".
And he couldn't have come at a better time. We've got such an incredible squad, and it definitely showed last night. LaMarcus and Gerald will have slower nights like any other great player will, and when we needed someone to step up, it wasn't just Jamal that took the reigns, but also Wesley and Raymond. And that's not gonna be the end; we've gotten a hint of what some of our Blazers can do, but we have yet to really see that big night from Batum, Nolan, or Chris. And it's comin... wow, this is gonna be a great season.
