Interesting update this morning from The Oregonian's Jason Quick. Billy Duffy, Greg Oden's agent, told Quick that he has fielded a few calls from teams inquiring about Greg Oden, a restricted free agent. Both Oden and the Trail Blazers have various options regarding Oden's future, but according to Duffy says that:

"I think Greg's heart is in Portland."

Some have questioned if Oden, who has been beset by injuries since being selected with the first overall pick in the 2007 draft, would want to remain in Portland. Initial reports seem to be that remaining in Portland is his preference.

But, is Portland's heart in Oden?
I am a fan of The Blazers playing their hearts out in spite of all the hardships that come their way.

My heart is not with Oden, maybe if he was ready to play basketball on opening day and could back up Camby then okay but everything that I am hearing says he won't be. We need a big man who can back up Camby because in this shortened season LaMarcus cannot have that burden put on him!

    8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks, 30 minutes

If he can deliver that statline or something close to it, we'll be in excellent shape.

smh at fools who dont believe in the kid. He's 23 years old! He can easily average 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks a game in 30 minutes.  His problem was getting into foul trouble.  When he got a groove going before he got hurt he was playing unbelievably.

Here's what Marc Spears is reporting:
Center Greg Oden "strongly leaning" on re-signing with POR to a 1yr, $8.8 mill qualifying offer and would become FA in '12, sources tell Y!

What I don't get is that everyone is talking about Oden not being worth the money he's costing us. Here's the deal.... if that's true for our franchise, it's true for everyone else as well. We already offered him 8.9 million. Our heart is in Oden. ANY other team in the NBA would have to offer him 9 million for this to even be an issue (yeah I know he could take less money if he was emphatic about going elsewhere, but I doubt that's the case). Either way, Oden goes from being an 8.9 mill high-risk investment for us to being a 9+ mill high risk investment for any other team. Given that we basically have the best info about his rehab progress, I don't see anyone else jumping to pay 9 million for a guy that MIGHT be ready in January. Whether or not GO is going to be with us long term, I doubt we're gonna lose him during this free agency period.

see imo he has more talent then any free agent on the market you see it as high risk but its a one year deal he gets injured again we dont really lose anything its not like its gunna set us back for years to come its a one year deal and if he dominates then woot we have a great center power forward combo(would be the best in the nba if oden never got injured)

He now has an opportunity to take advantage of a shortened season. Not very many pivots are going to be able to sustain this brutal schedule. Hopefully Gregs youth will allow him to endure.

You're not familiar with investments, are you? High risk also means high pay-off. What I meant is that he's an injury liability, but if he's healthy he contends with the top centers in the league. I meant exactly what you said: keep Oden because, when he's healthy, he's the exact post player we need. And we don't exactly lose anything if he goes down again because he's an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season.

The rules limit the effectiveness of defenders these days Blaser. Lebron would win defensive player of the year every year if he could hand check people and hold on to his man like the old days.

Wow some serious high hopes for JJ there.

@Cailin Isn''t a little ironic that the Heat are on pace to win a second straight NBA title despite being the worst rebounding team statistically in the NBA this season.

I would trade the pick, the team is in rebuild mode and I am not sure Burke is the guy I really want on my team. Since my team needs a PG a PF and maybe a SG depending on how they feel about Afflalo still.

Considering that is the only aggressive thing he has ever done in his life, it is not likely he will do anything. Maybe if he did I might respect him more. But its alright enjoy your higher ticket prices to pay this joker 11 million a year.

Right now, the most realistic is Asik. If Houston pursue D12, sign and trade JJ and a couple second round picks, maybe Joel Freeland or somebody for Asik.

Nah, Washington would just sign him themselves, save them a pick. Also, no way JJ is worth a lottery pick. Oladipo would be great, for pretty much any team in the NBA. I don''t think it''s possible to get him though. Should focus on getting a defe...
