i would anticipate either Nate playing Smith, or giving Elliot Williams a shot at some minutes at the position. he gave Armon the backup pg minutes last season until Armon's turnover problems became a problem. it's also possible we could look to trade Nolan or Armon for a backup pg. it's certainly an option.

I disagree about Nate not playing rookies. I don't think he doesn't like to play rookies, I think we just had a pretty weak group of rookies last season. After all, he played Oden a lot his rookie season (until he got hurt).

I would really like to see what Nolan can do, especially now that Patty is in China. I'm not sold on Armon, although he's definitely not a bad 3rd string PG if somebody gets injured. Anyway, I see tons of upside from Nolan. He is definitely more of a SG at this point, but has talked about learning how to play the point (which he did last year), and I only think he will get better at the point. If he can improve on his pure point guard skills (not like he doesn't have some after averaging 20 pts and 5 assists last year at Duke), he will be a huge talent, and a steal of the draft. He's a smart player who plays well on both offense and defense, and has good size for a pg. Plus, he's a 4 year guy from Duke, so he has tons of experience playing under one of the best basketball coaches (if not the best) in the world today. He's used to high level competition, and he's used to winning. That's not something you can find in most of the players coming out of college. He also seems to have a lot of confidence, which you have to have if you want to succeed at this level. I'm also impressed at him going and working out with LMA and Raymond and the other guys this summer, especially considering he hadn't had a single practice or workout with the team prior to the lockout. I think it shows that he cares and is going to work hard without being prodded or persuaded.

Nolan Smith should get plenty of oppurtunities to prove himself and I am confident that he will. I dont see him taking himself out of the lineup by making bad decisions and turning the over a bunch. He is a type of player nate can trust with the rock and a player that wont be selfish and take bad shots. Teams will have to respect his athletiscism and scoring ability which will open up the passing game where he can rack up the assists. Smith is the type of player that could bud into our potential pgotf. He is already solid and will continue to improve as he gains experience in this league. Look for big things to come from this guy in the future!

i think this whole dynamic changes with Brandon retiring. Elliot will likely get most of the minutes behind Wesley at sg (with Nicolas grabbing some of those as well). Nolan and Armon have the ability to play sg if need be. at pg after Raymond, I see Nolan as probably winning out on that one.

i don't think Nate is against playing rookies so much that he wants to be able to rely on the player who is in there. he wants to know that person can be relied upon and that's not an easy thing to prove to Nate, so it seems.

The other thing is that with the schedule being as condensed as it is, i think we're going to need to rely on all 12 guys on the active roster to give us some minutes any given night. it really wouldn't surprise me at all if there were nights when the rotation included the 11th and maybe even the 12th man (i.e. during triple-backs and five games in six nights stretches.).

the whole coach doesnt play rookies thing wasnt really my observation its something i've seen other people mention pretty often so personally i wouldn't argue the point. however i do think it would be exciting to find out who you can depend on by experimenting with different lineups.

Not DPOY. All American. Player of the year in his conference twice. Past four years, McCollum, Muscala, McCollum, Muscala.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
