What are everyone's thoughts about picking him up @24?
I know the odds are against us staying at 24 and picking a player, but at least we have 5 2nd rounders to make something happen.
Yes, we have a plethora of shooting guard/swingmen, but I don't see Rudy being here long term due to him playing the same position as our star, and his inability to play small forward or point guard for sustained periods of time.
Also, will the light ever turn on for Webster? He has all the talent in the world, but has really never been consistent. He is still struggling with a foot injury, will that be a nagging injury long term? He is known for his 3pt shooting, but that is Wayne's specialty as well, and would come at a much cheaper price tag.
If not for the aforementioned reasons, Ellington would be great insurance to have.

    Pros:
    Jump Shot
    Winner
    Big Game Experience

    Cons
    Defense
    One Trick Pony?
    Not Overly Athletic

Personally, I think he would be great on this team. Why did Howard and the Magic succeed so well? They put shooters all around the big man. I would love to see teams double down on LMA or Greg with shooters like Ellington on the outside

Here's my problems with us drafting Wayne Ellingtion:

    1. Rudy and Roy play together all the time. Roy can play PG and SG, and Rudy can play SG and SF. Rudy will eventually win a 6th man award (think Manu Ginobili), and a championship team NEEDS a legit 6th man.

    2. The Magic are NOT who we should be modeling ourselves after. The Magic's Otis Smith and SVG have assembled a team of slash and shoot guys, anchored by the best center in the NBA. They basically leave Howard in the game except for 10-15 minutes depending, and then substitute freely amongst their shooters. The Blazers and Nate have a completely different philosophy. Nate uses a more traditional 1st/2nd unit system, and adjusted for the quirks of our roster, essentially puts us in a 9-man rotation. Ellington would simply not fit into the second unit. He is not a PG (and we will have 3 of those again this year), Rudy or Bayless plays SG on the second unit, and we have 4 guys who get minutes at SF (Webster, Batum, Rudy, Outlaw).

    3. I see Rudy playing in Portland (barring a trade) for a long time. The fans all love him, he is a HUGE contributer to the team (see point 1), and management recognizes his importance to the team and Paul Allen is more than willing to spend to keep him here.

I really don't think Portland will keep anyone from the first round. I think if Portland moves up in the draft, it will be to add some more valuable trade leverage to make a deal with another team. I see Portland either moving up for trade chips or moving out of the first round. I think with the pieces we have in place right now, the best bet is to get skilled, experienced players to put us on another level. Look for KP to make something Big happen next thursday.

Or Dallas keeps pick and drafts a foreign player meaning he does not count against the cap. No one is just going to give up a mid level first round pick even in a weak draft for 2 mid second round picks in an even weaker second round of a weak dra...

Well it all depends on what you use that cap space for doesn''t it sign Tony Allen and now your Batum for Dunleavy trade just became Batum for Dunleavy and Tony Allen and starts looking a lot better
