    Who should advance?
    #1 Bill Walton (32)
     89%
    #8 Steve Johnson (4)
     11%

    BURNSIDE REGION
#1 Bill Walton vs. #8 Steve Johnson

    No. 32 | Center | 6-11 | 225 lbs

    Career Stats As A Trail Blazer: 33.7 mpg, 17.1 ppg, 13.5 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.0 spg, 2.6 bpg, .510 FG %, .674 FT %

Everything about Bill Walton fit in Portland. From his ability to set Jack Ramsay's offense in motion with a perfectly-timed outlet pass to his admiration of the Grateful Dead, Walton was the square peg that slid perfectly into Portland's square hole.

Unfortunately, it didn't last. Injuries robbed Walton of what should have been his most effective years on the court and the Trail Blazers of their most talented player. And in the process, both Walton and the Trail Blazers were denied what could have been multiple championship runs. His career in Portland spanned just 209 regular season games, which is why he shows up in only one Top 10 category, blocks, on the team's all-time ledger. But his importance to the 1977 championship team, as well as being one of the greatest centers to ever play the game when healthy, has earned Walton legendary status in Portland, and rightfully so.

    Schonely Speaks:

"What more can I say about that guy? The leader of that championship team. Made everybody else on that team much better. He could do it all. And that team, was a team."

    Career Stats As A Trail Blazer: 14.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.6 apg, 0.4 spg, 0.8 bpg, .540 FG %, .000 3 PT%, .627 FT%

Steve Johnson probably played the best basketball of his career in Portland. Maybe it had something to do with being back in the Beaver State after spending four years at Oregon State. He averaged better than 16 points and 6 rebounds in his first two years in Portland, primarily as a starter.

Johnson's starting spot was lost to Kevin Duckworth the next season, which is probably why the team left him unprotected in the 1989 expansion draft. He was taken by the Timberwolves, thus ending his playing days in Oregon. To replace him, the Trail Blazers added Buck Williams via trade and Cliff Robinson through the draft, both of whom went on to prolific careers in Portland.

    Schonely Speaks:

"Out of Oregon State. A terrific big man. Another big fella that could really score. A true team player. And he stayed in the community [once his playing days were over]."

The polls will stay open for one week. The player with the most votes will move onto the next round. Who should advance in this matchup and why?

hate to go against a guy who even attended college here, but you just can't go against Walton on this one. though i actually think Lucas was more important to that championship team, Walton was right there with him. Johnson was a great guy and i loved the interview last spring with him on "Up and Adam," but i've got to go with Walton.

Walton will be in the Finals, not even big Steve Johnson can stand in his way.

    Big. Red.

It's too bad he left on bad terms, but thankfully that is no longer the case. We sure could have used him in the late 80's when he was the 6th man of the year.

Sorry Steve, this one's not even close. When you can play half of an NBA season and still win the MVP, you're a baller and that's exactly what Bill did in 1978.

sign Iggy for 8-9M, Batum at the two, and Wesley off the bench! Draft Steven Adams (who loves contact, grew up playing rug-bee). Sounds NICE!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
