Jason Smith of the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports that Portland Trail Blazers guard Elliot Williams played in the Bluff City Classic championship game on Thursday, marking his first action in competitive play since 2010 training camp.
    ------------------
Williams showed off a beefed up upper body and -- judging from his several gravity-defying dunks -- looked fully recovered from the pair of knee surgeries that sidelined him for all of last season.

"I haven't played a game like this in a while -- since the preseason (last year), going 5-on-5 with referees," Williams said.

"It felt good. I've been getting stronger working out with (Tigers strength and conditioning coach) Frank (Matrisciano) and (local trainer) Scotty (Mason)."

Williams, matched up against [Memphis forward Wesley] Witherspoon for most of the night, certainly looked like a man among boys early, scoring 15 of the Magic's first 17 points in staking his team to a 14-point lead four minutes into the game.

this is awesome! i know this is no where near nba difficulty but the abiltity to go out and do something like for the first time back.. this gets me excited! if he could be able to contribute anywhere around 10pts off the bench every night, that would help us out a lot. If he does some how mature this season and becomes a good contributor, i think this might give the management of the blazers more freedom to shop B roy or anyone of the SG's. I know people still hate trading roy.. but we have a big hole at back up PF.. if we have another log jam at SG, y not upgrade our front court for backups and in case of injuries

i should have read the article first.. Basically there wasn't a lot of defense from williams.. he let his matchup score 35 pts to win the game. so negatives from the game- bad perimeter def, bad all around def, and he didn't shoot great from the FT line (9-15). Positives- scored 41 pts (like he should have against college players),  he made six 3 pointers, he made a clutch 3 pointer in the final 10 secs of the game (but missed clutch free throw down as well), overall still a good performance offensively. not thrilled with the defense though.. maybe he should be the SG we trade for a valued PF backup.

I think he'd have a good chance to be our poor mans version of Jason Terry. And quite possibly an off the ball defender with his hops.

Bad idea, if you score 30+ ppg in the summer, Nate will make you ride the bench for half the season.

Thank you, Knorton. Now more rebuilding or anything. No rookie nonsense. Get a solid Defensive big. Trade every single pick to get it.

I don''t trust big men with a history of injury. Ibaka also weighs more than Noel, but you''re right, early days yet, he could bulk up. I am sure, that he will lose some of his speed and athleticism when he does though. Wasn''t that one of his bes...

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
