Was it a good move to extend the qualifying offer to Greg Oden?
    Yes (62)
     87%
    No (9)
     13%
    Press Release-
The Portland Trail Blazers have extended a qualifying offer to center Greg Oden, it was announced today by the team. Portland has also extended a qualifying offer to guard Patrick Mills and exercised its third-year options on forward Luke Babbitt and guard Elliot Williams.
“We've stood behind Greg Oden every day since he became a Trail Blazer and that continues with today's announcement,” said Trail Blazers President Larry Miller. “Despite the setbacks he's experienced, he continues to be resilient in working tirelessly on his rehabilitation. We're all very encouraged with not only his progress, but with his commitment and determination to return to the basketball court.”

Here's the breakdown. If Oden accepts the Qualifying Offer, the Blazers own his rights for one year then he becomes and unrestricted free agent the following summer, meaning he's free to sign with anyone for any amount of money. If he doesn't accept the offer, he becomes a restricted free agent, giving the Blazers the flexibility to match any offer Greg accepts in the open market. The same goes for Patty.

What do you think? A wise move to extend the QO?

I think Greg signs it. With his injury he isn't really a huge target on the market, especially with the CBA up in the air. And I'm glad, because I love me some Oden. Dude is a monster on the court when he's healthy.

I think so.He's 23,still a baby by NBA standards. Its also i believe safe to say that we love G.O. in this town. The kid has had nothing but bad luck since he arrived, its bound to make a turn for the better. Hell,Brandons performance in " Game 4" should have been inspiring to the Big Fella. I know those of us watching, were in awe of his return to form that day. I still believe in both our boys. I also know this, when G.O. is healthy, hes not guardable or stopable. Riiip Ciity Baby!! Go Blazers.

If we get Oden back strong and healthy, and the League goes on strike, I'm gonna be ticked.

Plus a lockout would just be more rest and rehab... not that I'm hoping for one.

But YES! I'm glad we offered it today rather than leaving the boy hanging.

Oh man... healthy Oden, healthy E-Will, Jon Diebler shooting from the arch, Raymond Felton!!

    Things could be good.

I feel by Portland offering him the CASH and providing he takes it to earn a longer stay in PDX, this man will lead portland to a ring very quickly!!!

definitely smart but i hope someone else doesnt offer him a bigger offer if i was a team the same division i might just to screw the blazers over (kinda like what we did to denver with millsap) cause if you think about it were kinda committed to him hes the player who gets over the hump for sure it would be kind of a gamble for another team but i would doit

    Epic, Tom.

Did you notice how nearly every dunk clip ended with the opposing big men hanging their heads and dragging their feet to make the inbound pass? This dude, healthy, is straight-up demoralizing. We NEED THAT!

No we can't. If he acepts he will become a Unrestricted Free Agent in the 2012/2013 season. Only then we can sign him and extend his contract.

This is good for Greg Oden not the Blazers..... Greg won't play till at least January then he is unrestricted after the season.... Portland get the shaft for keeping him for the injury years then he signs with the highest bidder. Offer him a 3 year deal.

If there are even any NBA games before January. :( Keep hoping!

It would be pretty lousy to see him go at the end of the season. But we will have to consider the money. He won't be on a rookie contract anymore. We already have one of the highest payrolls in the league. 2012-13 I don't think we'll be able to afford the starting lineup of Felton, Roy, Wallace, Aldridge, and Oden.

given the CBA, i dont think our billionare owner would care to spend a couple million in taxes for a championship team.

I have NEVER seen a big guy elevate as fast as Greg Oden. For his size he probably has the quickest post moves in the NBA...hands down. For doubters...study the clip tom posted...rather then just drool over what could of been the past few years. He man handles all the big guys in the league and is still faster then them. WHAT? Im telling you, that you don't have to sacrifice size for speed? We just gotta keep prayin.

What I find ironic is that a former blazer big man (can't remember who, but he's long retired) said Oden's post moves were too slow and that he couldn't dance. I'm not sure which player he was watching, but it wasn't Oden. That spin move! And the fact that he can post his back to the basket, turn in a split second and dunk on your head before you can react. True. Most people can stay in front of Howard, but he overpowers them. I have to say, if Oden makes a good career run, he could be the best center in the league.

    confused ??

Why even bother offering Patty the restricted free agent deal !  you obviously don't have plans for the guy so try and pay him back for the work he has done to keep this team upbeat and fun to watch ! we all call him a cheer leader ? but I have no doubt he has the talent to provide some real transition to this team ...we are not going to win a Championship with guys that are either injured comoing off an injury or holding their spot by reputation ! give the reigns to the guys who ARE healthy and needs the minutes to develope and you will have more progresss than the current system. otherwise trade the guys out instead of insulting them and get people in you trust with the rock !!

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
