I would hope we wouldn't match it if it's anything near what rumors are saying he wants (multi years at more than 10 mill a season), nor would I want us to give Nene the kind of money he wants, because you know he's going to get Drew Gooden type money this year and be voted as one of the most overpayed players whenever we actually get a season going again.
So who do we get as a backup big man then?
My top three choices (in no particular order) assuming there is still a MLE:
1.Dante Cunningham -restricted FA on a team that doesn't value him as much as we do.
    2. Jeff Pendegraph - probably unrestricted since we cut him loose , but still should be able to get him at a decent price and he's well liked and knows the system here already.
    3. Chuck Hayes - Can play the 4 or the 5, undersized but has experience, can bang and he would most likely set screens instead of flare screens (love ya Aldridge but for the love of god would you quit slipping every single screen, I understand Miller and Roy are too slow to make a screen real effective but now we have Felton so let's see some hard screens.)

I don't know if Joel will be playing next year, or if he'd even want to come back to the Blazers, but of course he would be topping any list of center's we would like to have on our roster next year, but i omitted him because i don't think he will be playing next year, i keep hearing he's retiring.

There's simply no logic to giving a player a multi-year contract at ten mill. per year when Oden has yet to establish himself as an NBA player. No matter how much potential Oden has he's just not worth the money. Give him a one year deal at ten million, and if he stays healthy that's when you renew him up for the multi-year. Otherwise, that's a lot of money against our cap tide up to a player who's not even on the court. Just my two cents.
Personally I'd rather have Nene and Camby splitting time at center with C.Johnson and Pendegraph serving as backups to L.A. That's a best case scenario if where without Oden.

There is no way Oden is going to get 10 million. People keep forgetting the CBA, the lockout is going to happen and wages are going to get rolled back. it is a possibility that we wont have much a season. So I doubt that anyone will be getting that much anymore. Given Odens track record we would be crazy offering that much money without him playing even a full season and so would anyone else for that matter.

I'd do it.  Anything to keep Greg.  People underestimate his dominance because of his injury, but may I remind you that he was a BIG reason that we won 54 games in 2009 without having NEARLY the team we have now?  We had a cowardly LaMarcus, Steve Blake, rookie Batum, Travis Outlaw, Joel Pryzbilla... heck... I can barely remember the team we had but it was nothing like the team we have now.  Even without Oden this team is a championship contender in my eyes,  adding him is nothing but a bonus.  I don't get why people are thinking that we're waiting on him, and relying on him.  Hell no.  Once this team develops with it's core players, we can win a championship.  Add Oden, and it's multiple championships.  He's better than Bynum, and we all know how much the Lakers, a championship team, value him.

All the picks you selected for centers aren't tall enough or aren't dominate enough.  We'll already be resigning Pendergraph, so I have no concerns there.  Dante probably lost all hope for returning to the Blazers after he was arrested for Mary Jane possession.  And Hayes doesn't have the height.  He's a good center on a small team.

Face it folks, we ran into a team that had their eyes on winning the championship.  We played the best against them, and we played awful in the playoffs.  LaMarcus was fatigued, and the refs were very unfair.  This team is ready.  Add Oden, and it's more than ready.  The last thing you want to do is give a secret weapon like Oden to another team and have them winning the championships.  Believe it or not, Oden has that game changing potential in him, and that's just what the Blazers need.  If he stays healthy, he's worth that 10million.

I love the enthusiasm Herr, and I'm a big fan as well, but to say that we are a championship caliber team without Oden is questionable, and wrong.  I think our depth took a hit after the draft, and we only have about 7 reliable players in my eyes.  That is not enough to field a team that can get to the Western Conference Finals (definition of a serious contender to me). I think at least one more move has to be made, or our players that have a history of being injured need to come back strong. That, or we need to make another trade deadline trade to booster the team.

Look at the Thunder.  Seeing them get to the WCF shows me the Blazers certainly can.  Look at the previous Laker teams.  They got the Finals - and won without having much depth themselves.  Seeing certain teams win the championships makes me think we're ready.  We just need to get the production from the guys we expect the production from.  Batum, Wallace, and Wesley were all fairly absent in this past playoff.

True, but all of those guys have a bona fide superstar or two.. We don't have that... yet. I agree with a healthy team playing up to true potential we are a championship team, but we don't have a superstar, aren't always healthy, and a lot of our guys are very young and may need 1-2 more years to really hit their full stride

except that the thunder play an entirely different type of basketball game than portland.
They gave the lake show a super run for their money and established themselves in those two games right then and there..... They play fast, they play "no guts no glory" THEY RUN!!!!!! They are more efficient from downtown, and they have a guy who can land 30 points a night no sweat, as well as westbrook who can grab 20, 10 and 5+ boards....
like where and what is portlands equivalent to that? B Roy in game 4?

You are comparing the Blazers to teams that are nothing like themselves.... They have starters who can last long enough so they dont need a bench, they have a Lamar Odom...
they have twin seven footers one is extremely powerful and flat out dominates the paint, and the other is crafty and can nail a 14 foot jump shot sometimes.
They have a coach who might as well invented the triple threat, they have arguably the best player in the NBA on their team, and they have motivation.

Portland is looks like a team that is just looking to get lucky of a scratch and win......

I mean if Aldridge could of played you know..... at all.....i think it would be a different story, but this team lacks efficiency and speed, a quality that previous teams who have won show on or the other.....

Heavy and good discussion here. I will agree to about half of what everyone says here. Our depth was lost at on the Gerald Wallace trade not the Felton trade. Andre is a dam good point guard ,one of the best in the league, I am hoping that Felton can fill those shoes I really hope this does not bite us. Losing Rudy is not a big loss in my eyes he was a good defender but for a shooting guard to not be able to shoot in a year and a half  and given  all the minutes with Roy being out is a liability not depth.
The CBA is coming and after it is done there is going to be a big scramble on teams to unload on contracts you might even see the Meat unload one of the 3 to make room. Just my thoughts.

Offer him 8.8 see what happens. We need a center not ex-Blazers. Make a smart trade or two with Golden State then Detroit.

I feel that GO is more disappointed in himself then any Blazer fan could even try and comprehend. I am sure he feels like he owes it to the franchise and the fans to accept any reasonable contract we offer him. The guy is extremely nice and humble. He will do whats right.

Make the deal! 4 years 45mil.  he's young and we should get him while the price is low.  If he a break out year we will have to double it.  Now for the multi year deal,

I agree, lock him up for as long as we have Roy cuz there wont be any cap space until his contract is over anyways

Blazers probably get a better deal if they lock him into a 3 to 4 year plan.

Not sure about Saric. We already have Claver and Papanikolaou (over in Greece who could come over) and they both can play the 3/4 position behind Batum.
