Ya know, when I read that for his option it would be around 8.8 million i think it was, it almost made me sick. How in the hell can you pay a guy that much money when he's only played 1 full season in the 3 years we've had him. If he's healthy I bet he could still contribute, maybe not as much as when we first got him, but a 7 footer isn't a bad thing to have around.  I know ther isn't many professional sports players that would do this, but I think if he wanted to show something to the team and us fans, we would take a year contract at maybe like 1 million, and if he shows up, then offer him a better contract after the season.

How about a one year contract for5 about $2M and incentives for Games Played, Minutes Played, etc to get him to the 9M?

If we keep GO and he is healthy to play next year...you think Chris Johnson will really start over him? lol? There are only two questions...DO we buy him back? I think we will. Can he be healthy? Well thats the million dollar question now isn't it? I guarantee if those questions get answered first...Chris will only be an emergency backup and Camby will just be there so we don't strain GO.

I Like that idea with the incentives. I just feel that no matter if your a sports player or a sandwhich maker, you should have to prove yourself to get more money. And in sports, its pretty common to see large amounts of money thrown around to players that get hurt and never play again or end up being an expensive piece on the bench.

If Greg can play, he will. For some reason, i still have faith in the kid. If he can learn to have fun,he'll be fine. If he comes back with the mindset that he needs to just play his game, the kid has the potential to be Beastlike. Lets get him a couple of those black knee braces that Patrick Ewing used to wear.

I like the kid too.  Problem is Blazers have an extremly bad history with Centers.  The last beast at center we had was a guy named Lloyd Neal.  Thar guy was not afraid of anything.

Correction: the last beast we had at center was this Lithuanian guy named ARVYDAS SABONIS! Maybe you forgot about him...

Anyway, 8.8 mil for a #1 pick in the NBA (especially a potentially dominant center) is not much money. It's an atrocious amount of money for anyone to make, but he's relatively cheap. Actually, if he hadn't been injured, he would probably cost twice that, and don't be surprised if he gets some big offers from other teams. And we can't cut his salary because he's been injured. Would you like it if you were injured on the job and your employers took away 75% of your salary, somehow blaming you for the injury? Lawsuit anyone?

Therefore, my take on Oden is this: do your best to keep him. The team already knows how to play without him, so there's only something to gain from him getting healthy and playing next season; there's nothing to lose from him remaining inactive.

That being said. Even if GO comes back and has no restrictions on his minutes, I don't think he'll be starting over Camby. I think he and Brandon will be coming off the bench next year.

But 8.8 mil is sure a helluva lot to pay for a busted knee.....i mean who wants to pay for that anyway?
But if it happened to anyone of us "non NBA players" im sure workers comp might kick in.
The only thing to lose from keeping this guy and him flopping harder than Verajao, is we could potentially have an decent Backup for the 4 or 5....

You could be right on him and Roy coming off the bench, however that would be a totally flip of my expectations of this team from 2 years ago..

Read this article.  Great Article how nothing is changing.  We need depth at the post with a big question mark Oden.  We could have had Faried over Nolan Smith.  Faired could have played behind LA and given him much relief.  Instead we are still short in the Front Court and we a a big question mark with Oden.  We need a stronger Front Court to go against the Elite in the NBA.  We are no better off than we were last year.

Now that he will be signed, your thoughts?  We could only hope for a work stoppage that will give him longer time to heal.

I like the move. Of all the if's surrounding G.O.,i have but one. IF he can have some fun for once, and not try and do too much,we're better off with him then without.I do like the sound of him coming off the bench when he returns, which might not be until January anyway. I keep hearing that he's on schedule with his rehab, what that actually means... you're guess is as good as mine.  He has an Ohio connection with Jon Diebler, hopefully that means something.

it also means that the only way for him to play is if he calls up marty mcfly and doc brown and go back to that time right in between "great scott" and when greg got hurt....and fix it.

that way when the draft comes around Portland can nab Durant.

Greg will show all the haters.  Walton was hurt his first three seasons too!  Camby has never played a full season.  When you play the middle know this, THEY PLAY FOR KEEPS IN THERE!  no touch fouls in the middle!

If we offer him 1 mil, another team will match it.  His potential is too great to let him go.

so Roy, who was hurt and then forced back into play and just coming off a bad season is totally done. but Oden, the dude who has played like 1 seasons worth of play in 4 seasons total......he is a sure thing?....

Is odens potential, the potential we are not sure if its even still there, is better, no, Greater Than {>} Roys potential, which we know he still has from that dallas game....
