Would You Do The Above Trade?
Yes: Time To Win Now, Nash Still Has Gas Left In The Tank (14)
     38%
No: Nash Is Too Old, Trading Nic Would Be Drazen/Jermaine 2.0 (23)
     62%
How did this all get started?

First, Dwight Jaynes  believes an unbalanced trade is coming and has this to say-
Well, certainly if Miller is dealt, a point guard needs to come back this way. My guess is that Portland would be looking for a point guard with a combination of youth and experience who can score and distribute. I'll give you a day or two to chew on that before I give you my thoughts on who that might be.
Then the guys over at Blazersedge took this and ran with it, proposing a trade for Steve Nash. In this scenario, Portland deals Andre Miller, Nicolas Batum Rudy Fernandez, #21, $3 million for Steve Nash.

Would you do that trade Rip City?

lol hells no why nash is so past his prime at this time in his career and the way he plays he'd be out of steam by the time we made the playoffs be out in the first round for sure but i do agree we do need a point guard not named andre miller we need some one who can penetrate and dish not just run the offence

Not worth giving up Batum. Rudy is somewhat expendable at this point, unfortunately, and if we're picking up a PG like Nash it's worth Miller and cash, but not worth Batum. Throw Luke Babbitt in there, have Phoenix call it a salary dump and start grooming Aaron Brooks. They can trade Vince Carter for a better SF if that's their issue - Batum should stay, he's an excellent backup SF for us or anyone else.

That's a TON to get a short term rental for a player who is only marginally better at this point than Andre. If you're going to make a move like this, you better be winning a championship, or at least getting to the conference finals.

Nash is past his prime and has back trouble so I would vote no.

Nash is still nice at his age,but we dont need him at this stage of his career. What we need to do is move Andre,Rudy,Babbitt, and Barron, for Devin Harris and CJ Miles. Or Andre and Camby's expiring contracts Rudy and Babbitt for Devin and Milsap.

It blows my mind that people are complaining about Nash's age. Look at the team that just won the NBA title. How old was their starting point guard? To go along with that, Nash is even BETTER than kidd right now. Nash is still a beast. I don't understand why people are hesitant to make this move. We are NOT a championship team right now with our current roster. Period. We need to make a move. The draft won't help and free-agency has no guarantees with the lockout ahead. The only way to improve this team is through a trade like this. Look up Nash's number's everyone and compare them to Millers the last couple seasons. End of story. We should definitely do this.

No way in hell.  I like Nash, but Andre is a far better defender than Nash.  At this point, I still don't get why we're trying to get rid of Dre.  You eliminate Dre, you eliminate the oop.  At this point, I don't feel we're in the position to trade a point guard who hasn't aged in ages.

Secondly, that's WAY overpriced, and I don't think Nash is instantly a championship in the works.  Nicolas Batum is full of potential, and Dre is only slightly below Nash.  Adding Rudy, the pick, and some money?  People would be like wtf?

Dre and Rudy for Nash I would make the trade, but I wouldn't add the rest.  That'd be horrible for Portland.

@Herr, Id do that all day. Dre and Rudy for Nash. If we can, i still think we should make a play for Dragic. That kid is fearless, not to mention he was groomed by Nash. And he's a lefty.

The numbers don't tell much. There's no number on court vision or chemistry, but those are the two most important things a PG is responsible. We always pay attention to assist numbers, but that's only a portion of the story. So, as far as running the team, there's no proof that Nash could run the BLAZERS as well as he can run the Suns or that he would be any more of an asset than Miller. And I don't think the age argument is coming from the idea that old players are useless; it's just that the only reason to get rid of Andre is HIS age, so another good, smart passer that's the same age.

I don't know what happened to my thought at the end there... basically my point was that just Miller for Nash isn't much of an upgrade. Then add one of our young players with the highest stock value (Batum). It's a lose lose.

This is one of those really tough decisions to make but I think I'd do it
1.) Nash provides instant offense, has the same desire for a ring as Kidd, and wasnt everybody saying "man this guy never gets old" like a year ago?
The blazers were soo terrible at offense last year that another year with Dre scares me. Think about how many new plays, and outside shooting Nash provides. And he's just as capable for setting up Aldridge and GW for a dunk. He's not a downgrade in the vision or passing dept.
2.) Nic Batum. I like Nic, but there was a downside to the GW trade. Nic Batum's role, confidence, and future with the Portland trailblazers. He will obviously not be a starter. On offense he was nowhere to be found when they needed it in the playoffs. I think its worth it to trade him while he's still hot. Another year on the bench here and you KNOW his trade value will go down.
3.) Look at the PGs who win championships. Derek Fisher, Jason Kidd are the most recent. A veteran push to a team that is somewhat close makes a huge difference. Take the mavs, people thought theyd be out in the first round. But their veteran PG stepped up and it became contagious. Miller doesnt have the ability to make good offense contagious like Nash does and the Blazers biggest concern is their big man in the center, and offense.

I do it. Batum is a nice role player but this would be like getting Pip all over again. Nash would do wonders for this offens. Yes, it's definitely a win-now move but it's time to go big or go home.

    Nash/Roy/Mills/Johnson
    Matthews/Roy
    Wallace/Matthews/Babbitt
    Aldridge/Johnson
    Camby/Oden

And that is without pick #51 or using the MLE to acquire more depth to the bench

i dont see this happening. Nash would be the ultimate key to a different game plan for this team, with the way he controls the games tempo.
but i just dont see Portland landing a Superstar for a Lemon......
