Yeah, what happened to those in the Dallas series? I cringed a little when Camby donned them after his out-of-character three. It just looked weird. Don't know why. Anyway, maybe people weren't knocking them down enough (I'm looking at you Matthews) to put up the goggles, but I don't think the Blazers will give up their signature celebration, despite it being unpopular among other teams and commentators. Is any celebration liked by a rival?

It would be cool if we were a prolific three point shooting team. We are not. If they want to do something after a made three, let it be D. As soon as the ball goes through the net, start playing D on the ball. That would be something to cheer about. Too many times after made threes,do players spend time posing and get beat on D by the opposing team. D-Up!! Man - Up!! Go Blazers!!!

well my 2 cents is as follows.
i have heard from Portland fans that there are a few players in the league who make gestures after they make a big shots and they are criticized for doing so,  a couple of these players include JR Smith and also my boy LeBron.
Now the adjectives in these comments from Portland fans include : gloating, showboat, showoff, cocky...etc....

now for the issue of hypocrisy...

no really though, i agree with commontongue. it is pointless, unless this team is dead on from down town, it just provides another chance for negative criticism

That's a really good point. Ray Allen doesn't have a signature celebration, and he's made the most in the history of the league.

That being said, I don't mind celebration so much, as long as it's within reason and still respects the game. I don't really see a problem with the 3-goggles perse, but I can also see that they don't really serve any purpose.

The difference between the 3-goggles and other celebrations is what they stand for. They're a connection between teammates and now a connection between the team and fans, not just a rub-it-in-your-face gesture.

I'm sure they'll stay. We'll probably even have newbies that adopt them.

Not being a fan of other franchises or a teammate of any NBA stars, I can't be sure. But aren't the other celebrations for fans and teammates as well? Why do we assume other teams are saying "in your face!" while we are saying "go Blazers!"?? I would buy your argument a lot more if our players ONLY did the goggles in Portland, but they don't; they do the goggles on the road too. So they are for the fans and teammates, yes. But so are JR Smith's as far as we know.

I agree with Sarah...the three goggles started because of the team (Patty teasing Rudy) and they've been fun to watch ever since.  I can still remember (wow, it seems so long ago, and I'm only 14) when Rudy would hold up the "OK" sign when he made a three, and it was fun to see.  Now that they have the three goggles, it's a lot more fun because not just Rudy and Patty can do it.  Nic and Wesley have also been wearing them, causing me to call them "The Goggle Squad" sometimes because I see them so often.  In response to D_pickett's claim that it looked out of charecter when Camby shot and made his three...first, his teammates have done it all season, so why not him?  Secondly, it was like his first or second three of the season, and I think that is cause for a little celebration.  I'm kind of sad (check that, I am sad) that they're doing the goggles less now, because like Mike Rice said, "When you come to Portland, you get a three point licence." (he didn't say that exactly, but something like it.)  When I'm watching the games at home, I do them over my glasses with every three.  .......Sorry this speal is so long, I just had to put this out for all the people who, like Reggie Miller, think that it's ridiculous, or stupid.  GO THREE GOGGLES!!!!!!!!

I'll say it again, I like the 3-goggles. I like celebration. I was just commenting that is seemed weird when Camby did it for precisely that reason: he hadn't made one all season. I never said he shouldn't have done it. It was a completely neutral comment like, "wow. Who expected a 3 from Camby and 3-goggles to top it off."

why not just be notorious for being the team that is elegant and mature, a team that doesnt need to throw anything up when they make a big shot because the hype and the tension of a game doesnt effect them.......

oh, sorry, D_pickett... i can sometimes misunderstand things...I like the three goggles too (for anyone who can't tell...) and I am sooooo annoyed with Reggie Miller right now because he said they look "ridiculous".  He doesn't get why their cool, cause he's not from Portland... ;)

This is really sad, Owners and players can't agree on how to split $4 Billion in annual revenue so they might not even play at all. Does not make any sense. Let me see, I am a laser printer technician, and I don't like what I'm being paid, I'll just stay home. My owners customers don't get their machines fixed and I don't get paid. Hmmm, that is a great idea. But, look at all the people affected by this BS. All the people that work in the arenas don't work. All the restaurants that people eat at on game night lose business. All the players that are at the end of their career lose that last run. All the players that make the league minimum get nothing. It is only a select few that make the most money and they are the greedy ones. Hell, the owners can't control themselves when it comes to paying free agents. BOTTOM LINE....... HEY OWNERS.........BE MORE SMART ABOUT RUNNING YOUR FREAKING BUSINESS.....YOUR CUTTING THE FREAKING CHECKS.......YOU WANT TO CONTROL IT, YOU WANT TO MAKE MORE MONEY.......NEGOTIATE BETTER CONTRACTS YOU MORONS. Maybe they should send the owners through a money management course like they do NBA rookies.

Seeing that the 3 goggles started as a way for Patty Mills to halfway poke fun at Rudy Fernandez's difficulty focusing I dont think ti will stay now that Rudy is on Dallas. I even doubt Patty Mills will be on the active roster the next season played.

yes, but somebody has to actually make a 3 point shot. Did anybody make a 3 pointer during the Fan fest scrimmage? I think all dem Blazers together, were like 0-15. Probably something that needs some work. Shooting 0% from downtown makes it tough to win ballgames.
