Oregon Live does their annual You Be The GM posts and I like to piggyback off of that and see what the fans here think and compare it to the OLive results. Up first is Gerald Wallace.

His most memorable performance for the Blazers was in a physical late-season showdown with the Lakers in which Wallace did a whole lot of everything, scoring 24 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and adding four blocks, earning an "MVP" chant from LaMarcus Aldridge following the win.

Gerald got a rejuvenation of sorts in his short stint with the Blazers. Coming off of an All-Star campaign in 2010, he had a shaky start to the 2011 season in Charlotte. Whatever the reason, he was back to his normal self just a few games into his Blazer career. His ability to steal the ball and take it coast to coast is something only a few players his size are capable of. It was the boost from Wallace which propelled Portland to 48 wins and the 6thseed. Many even thought we would handle Dallas due to the addition of Wallace. With Brandon still not 100%, he now becomes the second star on the team to compliment Aldridge.

According to HoopsHype, Gerald Wallace will be owed $10.6 million next season and he has a player option for the 2012-13 season. Without Wallace, it's questionable whether the Blazers made the playoffs or not. His defense, toughness and ability to score in a multitude of ways took a lot of pressure off of Aldridge over the course of his time in Portland. But, Gerald's game relies on athleticism more so than some other players and he's been "Crashing" around the league since 2001-02. He turns 29 in July meaning he'll be entering the prime of his career. Should Portland sell high in this case, hoping to get more long-term value or is Wallace simply too invaluable for this franchise and it's time to win now?

I love his game but if we get Kenneth Faried Gerald becomes obsolete.

If trading Batum in a package deal (which is probably going to happen) for an impact player, you cant possibly even consider trading him. Sure he was a no-show in games 1-3 against Dallas, he brings much needed intensity to the team. Next season his roll on the court will be more defined, he will be more involved in the offense allowing LA not to fatigue out toward the end of the season. Besides I believe GW will have a chip on his shoulder and something to prove this coming season.

I agree.  Dealing GW now doesn't make alot of sense.  That said, Gerald's 10.5/yr is only guaranteed thru next season, with the following year being a player option.  Now?  No.  In the future, with consideration given to the miles on the tires?  Possibly.

When GW was first acquired by the Cho and the Trailblazers, I mentioned the oft overlooked LONG TERM considerations in a post here.  His short term contract.  Trust in Cho.  I can't say it enough.

Tough situation here. We really don't need BOTH Gerald and Batum on the roster. Do we try and win right away and deal Nic or still try to have some sort of a future and keep Nic while dealing Gerald? Yes, I know we can keep both, but with our bench in dire need of help, no long-term point guard in place or center for that matter, it seems foolish to keep two players at the same position in my opinion.

Until another 6'9" forward who can handle the rock, defend 4 positions & is 5 years young walks into the Rose Garden ready to play, we need Wallace. As much as I love Batum, he's no where near the level of Wallace and I'm not so sure he'll ever be. I think if we move Wallace the team will take a noticeable step back next year.

As far as I am concerned he brings more to the team then just the stats. His energy is that of Rudy's and his hustle is something you can't compare to anyone in the NBA. I honestly can not think of one player who Hustles as hard as he does for an entire game. That style of play is contagious. Not to mention his numbers are very nice, including the fact that he is a shot blocker, something we don't have much of.

ClydeFrog YES, I think the same way, We have to make some trades and Nic or Gerald will be nice card to make deal, and I Think that Wallace should stay and for Batum we can get some good player for another position !

No way warriors trade david lee for an unproven player that might not even have been drafted top 5 last year

But I feel like worse teams than us would offer that so you never know he might want to come back where it all started... then again he could hate us with a passion and want to go absolutely anywhere else

I don''t like Dwight, but he''s a top center in the league. I say top not thee top because I''d easily pick Marc Gasol, Joakim Noah, and maybe even Roy Hibbert over him.

I flat out called out LA''s poor passing in a thread a few months ago. His passing is so much better than when he was young but he needs to get better.
