Oregon Live does their annual You Be The GM posts and up next is rookie point guard Elliot Williams.

But Blazers scouts saw enough of Williams, described by Blazers' director of scouting Chad Buchanan as a "dynamic athlete" and an "aggressive on-the-ball defender," to draft the combo guard No. 22 overall out of Memphis. Williams played his freshman year at Duke (starting 12 games) before transferring to Memphis to be closer to home after his mother, Delois, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Outside of Greg Oden, Elliot Williams is the big unknown on the Trail Blazers roster. Before the season even began, E-Will had to have surgery on both of his knees. From what I understand, both surgeries were to prevent future knee problems he would have most likely faced if he had not had the surgery. Coming out of Memphis, Elliot was a combo guard who incredible athletic ability. In the Fan Fest alone, fans caught a glimpse of what was in Elliot's arsenal in terms of high-flying creativity. If he can work on his handles, Elliot could be an imposing point guard as he stands tall at 6'5". The only question is, "Did the surgeries negate most of his athletic ability"? Finally, the Blazers seem to have a log jam at the 2 guard with Wesley, Brandon, and Rudy, so if he is to make an impact next year, it could be at the backup point where neither Mills or Johnson took the position by stranglehold this past season.

According to HoopsHype, Elliot Williams is signed through the 2015 season and is scheduled to make a mere $1.3 million next year. Is his upside and athletic ability enough to keep him around or does the double knee surgery scare you away?  So what is it Rip City, stay or Go?

Can't really make this descision without watching him play, but this team got far, and I don't really think anyone here is saying Elliot Williams is a much needed player.  But, I would keep him.  You need athletic guards in this league, especially when you have no one on the team with the abiity to drive.  E-Mail has that ability

Good points Herr and to add to that, why trade him when his value is at an all-time low? Unless we are trading for Dwight Howard and the Magic demand he be apart of the trade, just keep him. We won't get anything of valu in return. Plus, I want to see him dunk on people next season.

Although he desperately needs to work on his outside shooting (doesn't all of our team?), he is still only 21 and could fill a position of need (PG). As mentioned above, it would be pointless to trade and pony him off on another team right now because his value is low. I have a feeling he is a project though and could take some time to develop so don't expect him to be dominant right off the bat.

I saw Elliot in action back in October when the Blazers did a scrimmage at Brandon's old school Garfield in Seattle. Williams was amazingly athletic and ran the court probably faster than Gerald Wallace. As quick as Patty is, he doesnt have the leaping ability that EW does.

Put Elliot at the backup PG at the beginning of the season and just let him grow, he has the potential to be a solid backup PG, we don't need to trade for a backup, we already have him. Now starting PG, could be another story...

i dont like to judge a player before i know how he plays.
so far this guy is a great seat warmer, but other than that i have yet to see him work it, i think he could hang on for another season or two

Yeah I was one of them *blushes*. I was never a diehard fan of basketball until the 2011-2012 postseason. I could name every team, but I always forgot two. Kings and Blazers.

Yeah, he was tripping with that Scottie Pippen reference. Nowhere as good as him, BUUUTTT, I think he can be, if he plays like a man. In Euroleague, you are taught more about finesse, and the fundamentals. He needs to put a little more muscle on, ...

I think what Stotts is doing is superb. His plays are great. I remember the only play he ever called for Meyers Leonard, against the Bobcats. Great movement, got LMA a good mid range look, got Batum a decent three look and the got Meyers way down ...
