First of all, Andre Miller was excellent this season. He kept the offense together and provided solid stats and a veteran outlook on how to run the team. He's one of the best passers out there which is perfect for guys like Aldridge (and I hope Oden) for lob passes. With that said, there is an important choice to make

    There are essentially three options:

1.) Stick with him and have no worries about a solid starter (for just next season)

2.) Keep him for now but trade when opportunity knocks in the next year or two

    OR

3.) Risk a little by getting a new guy who will be in his Prime when it matters

If the blazers can get a guy who is young but has a lot of potential as a starting guard in the future, I believe that would be the best option. In three years when the Blazers are hopefully on their way to the NBA Finals (or atleast about that level) we need a guy who has been with the team for at least a season and is comfortable with the system, but also getting into his own individual prime.

Chris Paul in all honesty is wishful thinking and not likely happening. Sorry.

However, there are guys who are consistent and have a lot of upside to them:

Aaron Brooks - The Oregon native killed us when he played for Houston in 2009 if you remember that playoff series. He can shoot lights out from three, he can pass decently, and he has experience as being a starter. I think he would like Portland a lot more than Phoenix because honestly we have a brighter future than that franchise.

Jameer Nelson - He's probably never going to be an All-star, but he's been a starter for a very good team, doesnt expect to be the #1 scorer, can shoot the 3, and set-up dunkers like Howard (Aldridge). I also think he'd be a good transition for a struggling Portland offensive system. He wouldnt drastically change it, but he would give more options on offense and provide solid passing. Overall I think he just needs to get out of Orlando at this point cause he isnt looking any better staying there. Note: Unrestricted free agent in 2012.

Rodney Stuckey - Not a lot of people know a whole lot about Stuckey but he's a reliable passer, knows how to set up an offense, and is still young. He's the type of guy that you wouldnt have to give up a lot for in a trade right now, but if you wait too long, he might be high value. Also, Detroit is at a desperate state where they need to make trades. This next season would be a good time to pick him up. He's young and has a lot of upside potential on a team that would welcome him in. Note: Restricted Free Agent 2011.

Rajon Rondo - think I'm crazy? It may be too early to determine, but Boston is obviously going to make some changes in the next two seasons. Not to hate on Boston, but their age has caught up and thats obvious. They are going to be in that awkward rebuilding stage in either one or two seasons where anything can happen. If Rajon was trade bait, the Blazers should pick him up. He's the best defending PG in the league and imagine him connecting with Wallace, Aldridge, and Oden not to mention his steals and ability to run the court with guys like Gerald.

Stephon Curry - Golden State obviously needs to get some veterans. Imagine if we traded Andre, Camby, and Fernandez (or something along those lines) for Curry. He's young and has already established himself as one of the best offensive point guards in the league. Some might complain about his defense, but honestly Portland is such a defensive-minded team that he'd learn some tough-ball defense from Nate and guys like Wallace. He'd provide instant shooting and between him and Matthews, Aldridge, and Wallace, we'd never have offensive droughts again.

Honorable Mention but not likely: Darren Collison, Mike Conely, Jeff Teague, Jrue Holiday, DJ Augustine, Raymond Felton.

What do you think the Blazers should do with the PG position? Can Andre really take us to a championship or do we need a younger rising star?

Definite yes. As I mentioned in a prior post, buy low on this guy and hope the Rockets don't match. If we got Brooks, it would allow us to deal Andre's expiring contract.

Jameer Nelson - He's probably never going to be an All-star, but he's been a starter for a very good team, doesnt expect to be the #1 scorer, can shoot the 3, and set-up dunkers like Howard (Aldridge). Again, another good option, but how much do they value him? I don't think he's the best at running a team but he's a good shooter to help keep the defenses honest.

Rodney Stuckey - Not a lot of people know a whole lot about Stuckey but he's a reliable passer, knows how to set up an offense, and is still young. He's the type of guy that you wouldnt have to give up a lot for in a trade right now, but if you wait too long, he might be high value. Never really saw "it" in Stuckey. Billups was traded to make way for him in Detroit and the team has never been the same. He's young but I see more combo-guard out of him then point guard. Also, he has never shot higher than 29% from 3. No thanks.

He is THE future in Boston. There's no way we get him unless we offer up Aldridge, which I wouldn't do. I also think he's slightly overrated. If he didn't have such a great supporting cast, defenses would be able to stifle his offense since he can't shoot. Finally, our biggest weakness is shooting from the outside. It would be worse than having Andre out there. Defenses would just sag into the paint and beg him to shoot.

My favorite point guard option of anyone not named Derrick Rose. He can shoot, pass, run a team and do it all. With Monta seeming like the guy in Golden State, it could mean they could entertain offers for him. But again, do we have the assets to acquire him? He would be our point guard of the future.

Can Andre take us to the championship? Only if Greg Oden comes back healthy. I do think Oden can but we need to get younger. The thing that sucks is that we need a point guard right away so I don't think the draft is the answer, so one will have to come either free agency or the draft. Keep a close eye on which teams with good young point guards draft PGs with their first round pick. If that happens, look for the Blazers to target that team's PG. (IE: Dragic if the Rockets draft Jimmer)

Derrick Rose will never play in Portland. he will probably retire a bull. Cp3 will not be coming to Portland. Aaron Brooks is the Suns future Point guard...they are not about to let him go. Rajon Rondo is Boston's future...he will not be suiting up anytime soon for the blazers. Signing or trading for the above players is unrealistic. Cho is either going to sign a free agent point guard (i.e. Ford) or more likely he will trade to move up in the draft and take a point Guard with a pick probably in the low teens. The other thing he may do is to keep Mills for the time being...he might even decide on keeping AJ. Stuckey, though probably easy to acquire is a gamble. Nelson I think would do well in Portland but would cost a pretty penny. As for Curry....I am all for it. Hopefully we do something different this time around because every year it seems to be the same story. We get rid of the rookie point guard we thought was the point guard of the future only to draft another. This revolving door is not working for the Blazers. Maybe now that Cho who put together the Thunder is the GM,  we can bring the future point guard to Portland once and for all. But, then again maybe he is already here!

Fun Fact: The Trail Blazers were one lottery combination away from winning the 2008 Draft Lottery. Rose in Portland would have been amazing but there is no room for coulda woulda or shouldas.

knowing the blazers and how they draft players , they probably would of passed him up like they did MJ and Durant, chances are they will get a guy who has a knee problem.....hahah....

the truth about Rodney Stuckey, is that , statistically speaking, when he has the ball in his hands, his team actually loses points by the seconds.
he is one of the most inefficient and overrated players in the nba.

So we get "lucky" when we make good draft decisions but we are "stupid" when we pass on certain players? Really?  C'mon Son!
Give credit where credit is due. Trading for Roy and LA were great strategic moves. We moved up to grab LA by using Viktor Khryapa and traded Telfair for Foye, then flipped Foye and a couple bucks for Roy. Sure we missed on KD but so would 29 other GMs. You win some, you lose some, but those moves were not lucky, not by any stretch of the imagination.

How do you get lucky when it come's to making trades?
I mean, if you had the 10th pick and the projected #1 pick was still available, THAT WOULD BE LUCK.
But how does making trades and drafting players you thought we're better have anything to do with luck? LOL
    Just curious...

no , no no, not like that.
i'd give you credit , and i kind of am. the trades they made on draft day to acquire Aldridge and Roy ( because neither of those players were drafted by Portland ) they got lucky because of how much of a steal it was to nab those two guys. The teams that had those players obviously didnt realize that they were more talented than they men they recieved.....

you do win some and you do lose some, but when you are talking about losing MJ or losing KD, thats not just "some".... hahaha, if you catching my drift, its more than some....

but in all honesty, durant is good, but he is not great, " a silky smooth jumper" looks more like a coarse satin upchuck. i love his game/ minus his shot, which is now like %50+ of his game..... sad face for KD....down for the backpack though

I proposed a deal involving Bass, Reddick, and Nelson earlier this year with Orlando.  With the Magic getting bounced early and rumors of Dwight Howard looking to greener pastures (or pastures filled with smog), a deal with Orlando is as likely as any other IMO.

@ Clydefrog...I would part with Batum if it meant Curry was coming back...YESTERDAY.

Nelson, Bass, and Reddick would be amazing for the Blazers. Completely agree with getting these players. A decent PG for the future, a reliable lights out 3 point shooter, and a backup strong PF for Bass. All the areas Portland wants to improve on for the long term. Question is: Who would Orlando want in return?

Blazers want to win now, this is evident with the firing of Cho. They will resign Andre Miller. They will probably not risk trying to find a backup pg in the draft and instead look to find one in free agency or trade for one. I say sign Leondro Barbosa.

We need to open up the paint. Miller struggles from the perimeter. Dallas took big advantage of this in our playoff series by choking the paint with a zone defense. We've been at the bottom of the league in 3 point shooting since we got Andre Miller.
