Chris Johnson really didn't make his impression felt until Game 3. When word first leaked that we signed him and saw how skinny he was for his height, many thought he'd be just another warm body to fill the bench and make practice competitive. We knew he was athletic and a great defender at the D-League level as he was the 2011 NBDL Defensive Player of teh year, but would it translate over to the NBA?

In Game 3, we found out as he changed the complexion of the game with his length by blocking a Barea layin and Dirk's jumper in the paint. With Portland already thin at center as a 37 year old Camby was our only other option and Oden still rehabbing from knee surgery, CJ looks like he'll have a spot with the team this summer. He can bring that energy off the bench and if he gets a little more time, his defense could become a nice asset for this roster.
According to HoopsHype, Chris Johnson's partially guaranteed contract for next season is worth $788,000, making him a bargain by NBA standards. Can he take his game to another level and be a defensive force off the bench or was Game 3 as good as it got for CJ? So what is it Rip City, stay or Go?

The potential of CJ is huge. He really showed us something awesome during his small runs in the playoffs. I am very excited to see what he can do in the near future and really think we should give him a cheap 1-3 year contract while he is more willing to take a smaller deal just to be out of the D-League.

Stay! It's not even a question. I mean, good Lord..if Camby gets hurt and Oden's not ready by the start of the season, guess who is going to be our starting center?

I agree with this. At first glance he looks like nothing more than a string bean, but he can jump through the roof and his length is unmatched by few in the league. Lock him up for cheap while he is relatively unknown and hope it pays off. I'd love to see us take advantage of him in the open floor like we do with the L-Train.

I would keep him and move him to the 4 position if at all possible.  He just doesn't look like he could ever have the beef necessary for the 5 spot.  Playing the four will allow him to use his length on shorter players as well as allowing him to slash.  Slashing seems like the most appropriate way for him to score since he doesn't have the strength to play back to the basket and he doesn't have much of a jumper.  He does seems rather quick, however.  At least quicker than a few of the 4s and 5s in the NBA today.

I really dig the idea of using him at the 4. LaMarcus could use the rest...but I find that he would probably end up at the 5 anyways, since that's where we tend to need the help. If we got a really good reliable and durable center (which still could be Oden or Camby), then using CJ as the backup 4 would be pretty awesome.

Agree 100%.  Johnson's upside and minimal salary demands are too much to turn away, and he could and likely will play a vital role in the re-tooling of this team.  I can't overstate the meaning I took from his now infamous foul on Dirk either and what that meant.  The man takes pride in what he does, indicative of a desirable level of commitment and dedication to the common goal...KEEPER.

Rumors have shown that the Rockets are very interested in Dwight Howard and that the interest is mutual.

    I''d trade for Asik.

Sanders better shotblocker, better dunker and around the rim, Asik better defensively. I think Asik will have the better career.

Paul Allen might sell the Blazers but the Blazers will never leave Rip City.
