You Be The GM: Luke Babbitt
Stay - Young, potential outside shooting threat (11)
     52%
    Go - Too tentative, sub-par defender (10)
     48%
Oregon Live does their annual You Be The GM posts and up next is rookie point guard Luke Babbitt.

A month into the season the Blazers assigned Babbitt, who appeared in eight of Portland's first 16 games, to the D-League. He averaged 18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 27 minutes per game in four games with the Idaho Stampede. Three months and 22 DNPs (Did Not Play) later, it was back to the D-League.

Acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves on draft night 2010 fro Martell Webster, Luke Babbitt was widely regarded as the "best shooter" in the entire draft. Even with Brandon Roy missing time this year, the rotation was too deep for Luke to crack and only appeared in 24 games. His rookie year will be more defined by his time with the NBDL's Idaho Stampede, where he took the league by storm. But whenever he got time on the floor as a Trail Blazer, he looked lost, tentative and his game suffered. His jumper, which hits nothing but nylon time and time again during practice, wasn't shot with the same confidence and rarely found the bottom of the net during live game action.

Was Babbitt's first-season in Portland just a product of rookie jitters, an undefined role or something else? After the playoffs, it was clear the biggest weakness the Blazers possessed was a lack of outside shooting, an area where Luke can definitely help out. I don't think many expect Babbitt to become an All-Star caliber player, but if he can be that sharp-shooting wing off the bench who also has the ability to rebound and put the ball on the floor, the Blazers will have killed two birds with one shot: a sharp-shooter and bench scorer.

According to HoopsHype, Luke was the eight highest paid Blazer in 2010, making $1.6 million, even more than the likes of Batum & Fernandez. His rookie deal extends into 2015 with him earning $1.7 the following season. Is it too early to give up on the 16th overall pick in last year's draft or is it time to find someone else who can fill it up off the bench? So what is it Rip City, stay or Go?

    STAY!
Why on earth would we get rid that floppy haired kid from Nevada? The worst thing you can do with young players is deal them away too early. Chauncey Billups ring a bell? The Celtics dealt him mid-way through his rookie campaign. It was really obvious Babbitt wasn't ready for "The Show", but what's done is done and we have him. He does have a nice stroke, but we just need to get him to shoot it with a purpose. Also, if he leaves, it's not like he's bringing back the King's ransom in return if you catch my drift.

Tough call. He really underwhelmed me this season but as mentioned above, the worst thing you can do is have a player, trade them away early in their career and watch them blossom elsewhere because you were too impatient. Let's just put it this way. I wouldn't openly shop Luke but if the right deal came in place or he was a filler in a blockbuster trade, then peace out. I think he has potential but he's definitely not untouchable by any stretch of the imagination.

Gave up an actual rotation player for him, gotta keep him at this point. Its funny to me that Babbitt was a top 10 rated prospect in the draft last year but just didn't see it when he got time this year

I wasn't extremely impressed with Luke this season, but he didn't get a huge chance to show us anything. I think his very good performance in the D-League this year was very encouraging...but we have a log jam at the 3 right now with Gerald and Nicolas, so I don't see Luke getting a huge chance unless there is an injury. He is good to have around as a backup but I think if we could get another piece by using him as a trade chip, we should keep him. I go with stay, but put him on the trading block and don't sell unless the price is right.

Trade Wes to get Oladipo PLEASE!

Oladipo is an athletic, cheap version of Wes. I would ecstatic if we get Oladipo!

Hopefully we can just get into the top 3 then we can keep wont have to trade Wes for him.

First off Damian- Jack will make a lot more than 4 million next year. At minimum he will get a couple MLE offers starting at 5.15 million. Tony Allen will also get many MLE offers so to sign either will take at least 6 million probably closer to 8...

Rookies are fine a team should be able to carry 5 of them easily. The problem with us last year was we had no depth in front of the rookies. Lillard and Leonard as lottery picks should have gotten lots of playing time, which they did. However, Bar...
