I think we need to try to Package B-Roy, Fernandez, and our First round pick to Cleveland for their #4 pick and Varejao because we would have a better presence down low and we can draft a point guard. Some would say that leaves us thin at SG with only really having Matthews but really we can spread batum between backing up Matthews and Wallace at  the 2 and the 3 with babbitt being 3rd string

Why give up on him? That makes absolutely no sense at all. He's still only 23 years old. How would it feel to see him succeeding with another franchise? Might as well try to salvage something from that pick and see what he can do. Re-signing G.O. is probably #1 on the priority list this summer.

    1. Greg Oden qualifying offer (8.8 mil.) If we offer him the free agent offer by June 30 he is officially a RESTRICTED free agent, meaning we could match any contract offer another team  has to offer.
I say keep Greg Oden for now.  He was the first pick of the '07 draft that included Kevin Durant.  Trading him would make him even more of a bust than he already is, and, who knows, he might turn out to be valuable in the future.

    2. Andre miller (7.2 mil. team option). We have the option to have him for the 2011-2012 season at the cost of $7.2 mil. Simple as that
KEEP ANDRE.  Miller was very consistent in the playoffs and is a very good fit for this Blazer team.  If he can't be kept, maybe move Roy to the point or draft a PG.  Also, finding a way to get JJ Barea from free agency seems like a good idea.

    3. Marcus Camby/ Chris Johnson. We have Camby under contract for one more year, and some people think that Chris Johnson  has a future with this team. Do we look to trade Camby and get younger value for him and let Johnson get more minutes, or do we still rely on Camby to be our starting center (disregarding Oden's situation)?
I like Camby as much as the next guy, but, I am probably the biggest supporter of Chris Johnson.  He is very energetic, athletic, and, with time, he could develop into a very dynamic inside scorer.  He is already a shot blocker and runs the floor better than any big I've seen in a while (along with Noah).  Chris Johnson NEEDS more minutes.

    4. Batum; Should he start? Come off the bench? Will he live up to his potential?
Batum's performance in the playoffs was mediocre at best and I think Batum should come off the bench or be traded.

    5. Roy; Should he start? Should we cut him baring the new CBA possibly coming out which may give us the option to cut a player WITHOUT having to pay him his full salary ($82 mil. for Roy). Is he still a centerpiece for our franchise?
He is no longer the centerpiece, but he has proven to bring a big spark off the bench.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    6. Matthews. Is he a legitimate starter for a contending team? Is he too streaky? What can he improve?
As you can tell by my username, I am a big fan of Wes.  He is a legit scorer when driving to the basket and from the perimeter.  I think more plays should be drawn up with the idea that Wes is very good driving to the basket and can be a legit scorer in this league (despite his lacking ability to create his own shot.)

    7. Crash Wallace; will he improve given more time with the Blazers? Should he be looked at as a building block for our team?
He will improve.  If he isn't good enough already, he will shine in the future.

    8. LaMarcus; no questions here. Beast, all-star in the making, needs to bulk up and improve leadership.  Work hard in the offseason and be even better than this year.
Agree.  L-Train is a beast.  One suggestion, more passing to perimeter for easy 3s when covered well in the post.

    9. Rudy/Patty; do either have a real future with the team? Which one is most expendable or could we get the most value for?
I would say dump them both.  I love Rudy.  RUDY RUDY RUDY.  BUT, he isn't a productive player other than the fact that his 3 Goggles can ignite the crowd and the team.  Same with Patty.  Considering he got VERY few minutes, if any at all, in the playoffs, there is no point in keeping him.

    10. Lastly, who do we target in the draft? Any particular college players? What do we do with the likes of Armon Johnson, Elliott Williams, and Luke Babbitt? Should they get some big minutes next year if we do indeed go into sort of a rebuilding mode... again?
Target the BEST available player.  Jordan Hamilton and JaJuan Johnson seem like good picks.  JuJuan is VERY underrated and can be used as a center considering he is a great post player, despite his size.  Josh Selby is an option, but I wouldn't suggest Fairied (no matter how tempting he may be) or Singler.  In the 2nd round, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, pick Jamie Skeen.  I am shocked that he is so undervalued.  He is SOOOOOOO versatile and can be an impact player right away.  Skeen = STEAL.

    Why not?
he has had 3-4 seasons to get healthy, why is this? What is he doing to keep himself on the injured list and off the bench?

Why take another risk at not signing a Center who can actually play, and not get groin injuries twice a season, camby, or a center who is going to go into shock in the first round of the playoffs, LaMarcus.....

If we have any chance to trade up to 3 or 4 to get brandon knight we should do it.  we could really use a quicker younger pg right now, that was pretty obvious in the dallas series since j.j barea and even jason kidd where both killing us.  Also knight is good at creating his own shot and we could really use someone like that on our team right now.  I think he would space the floor for us and help free up Lamarcus down low a lot.  Right now since Aldridge is really the only one on our team who can create his own shot it is pretty easy for other teams to plan how to defend us.  Another good scoring big man or a gaurd who can create shots for themeselves and shoot well would really free up Aldridge.

No questions asked, we need a rebounder and a point guard. Kevin Love would be more than happy to play in Portland since he's from Lake Oswego. I say what we could do is trade some players to Minnesota for Love and their first-round draft pick. That way we could draft Kemba Walker, and we could get the best rebounder in the NBA out of it. That's exactly what we need! A solid PG and a great rebounder. Imagine Love at center, Aldridge at PF, and Wallace at SF with maybe Brandon Roy and Kemba Walker at the 1 and 2 spots. Western Conference if not NBA finals anybody?

Cho will be a busy man.  Ultimately, HE will be this team's MVP, just give him some time.  Quote that.

    Sorry, man, couldn't resist.

I'd like to see Oden play a full season here. Who wouldn't? Make the offer.

Everyone knows Andre has 3 years left MAX. We could hang onto him until he retires for no other reason than to train up his successor.

While I like what Camby and Johnson can do, neither one is the starting big man we need. Keep CJ coming of the bench and trade Camby. Not that a lot of teams want his expiring contract, especially since the end of this contract might be retirement for him.

I've been waiting long enough for Batum to make a big contribution. One alley-oop buzzer beater isn't enough. Trade him while everyone still believes he could be great.

If we have to pay Brandon's full contract, we have to keep him. If that money is allocated we can't find a worthwhile replacement. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing him traded. Even when he was playing his best a couple years ago, I felt like he was holding the rest of the team back. It shouldn't have required Roy's injury for LA to explode like that.

What can Matthews improve? Everything. Offense, defense, shooting, finishing at the rim, did I mention CONSISTENCY!!!! He's a decent, starter-quality 2 guard, but not necessarily any better than half the other 2s in the league.

Crash has to be kept. You aren't going to find a better 3 through the draft, trades, or free agency (especially if we're paying for Roy, the expensive hood-ornament). You can't trade him straight across for another 3; Nic can't start. Keep Crash.

LA is the backbone of the team. NOT Roy. I repeat NOT Roy. I got the feeling that so much of the team's energy went toward figuring out Brandon's minutes in the post-season that we forgot who was winning games in the regular season. LA needs to pull a Jordan and retire from the team that drafted him after he's made it a Championship team.

Rudy/Patty... I hope they have a good time with whatever team that gets them. That team probably shouldn't be Portland.

Armon, Babbit, and Williams? Armon 100% expendable, some teams are into young PGs, see what you can get for him. Babbit needs to find a team with whom he can play to his strengths, but my mother told me to pick the very best backup 4 and you are not it. Williams... what is it with this franchise and bad knees? I'm done with it. Get rid of him just to purge us of the knee curse.

I think OKC would like Nic to be Durant's back up. Nic for Nick (Collison that is). Nick Collison coming off the bench for at 4? Beautiful.

Rudy, Patty and Babbit for a solid young point. I'm not sure who that could be. You need to find a team that's willing to take a couple risks and probably didn't make the playoffs (at least not past the first round). Stephen Curry?

I hear talk of waiving, cutting, and asking Brandon to retire. Can we talk about trading him? Other teams might be able to afford him if they trade an expensive player too. B-Roy for someone like... Iguodala (although I think he has a smaller salary and Philly probably can't afford to pick up the difference for Roy). I'll admit I don't really look into players' salaries too much.

I have one thing to say about Kevin Love: why? Sure he can rebound. But I can't really see him taking over as a dominant starting Center because he's more of a 4, and he won't come off the bench.

well the backbone of this team was missing in the playoffs.....some back bone....

because roy isnt ballin like he used too, you as fans turn on him for the next persons back you can jump on and hope they take you to the playoffs....

last time i checked Roy made more news against dallas than Aldridge...

and to be a championship team you gotta earn/ win one first, i honestly dont see the blazers doing this without Roy / Aldridge and Oden playing a full year , healthy and dominating.
Or this team loses half of its current roster and gets caught up in rebuilding and fresh rookies......

but i do agree with you on the Love Hype.... its just hype....

I was actually talking about Aldridge and Roy at their best. When LA is playing his best, the team can build off his success. When Roy plays his best, he's the only player who converts. I've always thought there was too much sacrifice of team play when Roy was on the floor, injured or not. That's why I don't see him as a backbone; it has nothing to do with his knees. But maybe I have an odd perspective.

Brandon Roy simply handeled more than people could even imagine in the past couple years. He has been without a real scoring threat inside until this year were LaMarcus really stepped it up. He missed a hustle rebounder in Wallace; sure they have it in batum but dont even tell me he is close to Wallace. If the blazers in general can pick up a solid point guard that is gonna get this team back to the way it was with damon, Brandon can get back to the way he was. In game 4 i saw something for Brandon he said what was said but he came in and backed it up... he needs a strong off season to continue his plasma therapy and get those knees back to work... dont tell me the blazers are different when he is on the court, in the playoffs against the rockets led us, Mavericks his come back kept us in the series... Great playyer whether laMarcus is performing or not

Brandon was crying in game 4!!!! he even said he never thought he was going to be at that level again, the level of being involved and part of this team.
see the thing is, he may of scored 22 - 28 points in game 4 or he could of scored 109 - 123 points in that game, they still lost the series. it was cool and that was about it.
and the sad thing is, his knees are not getting any better, from what i hear that meniscus doesnt grow back....

you make good points about how clutch b roy has been in the past, but the bigger point that outweighs those, is portland has yet to throw a parade.... (win)

all the talk about roys knees being bad isnt much of an argument. if you look at his play in the past he played quit slow and on the ground. he has been a jump shooter his whole career. the knees WILL affect him no doubt BUT i dont think it will be by a lot. he had those flashes late in the season and in the post season of vintage roy. he just needs time to let them rest and get back his star role. he had an injury he didnt die. he can still produce. GIVE HIM A CHANCE. next season if he goes to a new team (god forbid) and does well (which i know hell do next season) everyone will be like OMG we shouldnt have given up on him. lets try to get him back. you all will jump back on the B-Roy ban wagon. roy is the 3rd best SG in the NBA show some respect!

you are right but the only downside is, what has been happening here, or there, in Portland IS NOT ENOUGH!!!!!
So yea Roy played the Hero late in the first round against Dallas, but where was he all season? Where was hbe in the next two games against dallas?

He is a jumpshooter, thats awesome, except if you are on this team and you take shots waaaayyy more than you make them. Roy needs to be in the lane, driving, getting a foul + basket in order for this team to make it to the next level, not just from him but everyone.

and even if " letting him rest a while so his knees can recover" worked, for how long? This team F ( BOMB) ed up big time when Roy tore his speil and 8 days later he was back on the floor, like " Brandon we need you to fly down there and get fixed so we can lose as a team..."

But i will give you that last bit, last season ( after the injury / tear the season before ) he was still listed as 3rd best SG, Wade was first and that one guy who is only kind of good , the one who plays in los angeles was ranked second.......

    A few quick points:
    - Keep Andre Miller for another year (if the right deal comes along, pull the trigger of course)
    - Same applies to Marcus Camby, who should start unless Oden can actually play.
    - Roy is a Blazer in my book for as long as he wants to be. If he can start, he starts, if not, Wesley starts.
    - Chris Johnson should be kept, along with a new drafted big and Jeff Pendergraph. Unless we can sign a legit big in the offseason, it's going to be a big-by-committee situation again, which is better than it was last year. If we can sign one legit big in the offseason, then make a choice between Johnson, Pendergraph and the rookie for who doesn't make the cut.
    - Batum is a definite keeper. As the team gets better, people shouldn't care about being on the bench as much, and he's often closed out games, which is more important than starting them.
    - Wallace is a keeper too, along with Aldridge (obviously).
    - I like both Rudy and Patty. But we're overstocked at the 2 (with Roy, Matthews, and Elliot Williams), so either Rudy or E. Williams has to get shipped, and I want to see Williams play before making that call on him. On Patty, he's a solid fifth-guard type, but we're assuming we're keeping 3 SGs on the roster anyway so I am not sure if we keep him or shop him. If the right deal comes along for a PG, move him because Andre's got one year on his contract left, and though we should try another 2-3 year deal with him, it might not pan out.
    - Armon and Luke Babbitt should be shipped out too, LB is a shooter that can't shoot and Armon is a PG that can't pass. Elliot Williams has to be kept long enough to evaluate him during regular season games, so don't trade him until the deadline timeframe and then only if it doesn't work with him.
    - I'm not sure we should make the qualifying offer on Oden. Are we going to keep him if someone bids more than 8.7 million a year in a multi-year contract? Is he worth that much? If we don't make the qualifying offer, we can still resign him, it's just possible we can't match and have to beat. But we should be signing Oden for 4-5 million a year at most. The exception to this is a sign-and-trade, specifically for a Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, or other legit PG/C.

That would give us a depth chart of:
    1: Andre Miller, Patty Mills
2: Wesley Matthews, Brandon Roy, Elliot Williams
    3: Gerald Wallace, Nicolas Batum
4: LaMarcus Aldridge, Chris Johnson, new big/Pendergraph
5: Greg Oden, Marcus Camby, new big/Pendergraph
Trade Chips (extra pieces): Armon Johnson, Luke Babbitt, Rudy Fernandez
Look to move (trade centerpieces): Oden, Camby, Miller, Mills, Johnson
Look to land (in return): Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Joakim Noah, Andrew Bogut, Brook Lopez, Tyson Chandler, Marc Gasol

Two final notes: First, this was a year we really could have used a Jerryd Bayless coming off the bench. If you can see a way to flip expendables for him after the reacquire ban expires on July 1, I say we do it to fix the worst trade of the last few years. Secondly, people keep talking about acquiring Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, or players that fit one of these two types. Jennings and the other super-young PGs are unproven and on bad teams - we can't flip the whole team for something like that. Rondo's a dirty player, and he looks better because he plays with 3 hall of famers. He has skills, no doubt, but I think he's way overrated. If you're going to break the bank, break it for Chris Paul, Deron Williams, or an older but proven PG like Nash even.

    okies, here goes:

    1. Greg - extend the qualifying offer. this really is a no-brainer. if he gets a counter offer and we don't match it, fine (though i think we would if it's reasonable).

    2. Andre - bring him back. it won't be difficult to do. i agree with Chad Everett above me; possibly sign him to an extension. key thought here: Andre is three years younger than Jason Kidd, who just helped lead the mavericks to a championship.

    3. Marcus/Chris - keep Marcus. if Greg returns, he won't have been playing long before the trade deadline, so even then it would be risky to trade Marcus. keep Chris as well. if he bulks up, which reportedly he is doing, he could have a decent role in our rotation. note: his wife tweeted to me last week that one night for dinner he had seven homemade tacos in one sitting; that has to bode well, i would think.

    4. Nicolas - hang on to him unless a great deal presents itself. note here: a "great" deal is NOT a deal to simply move up a few picks in a weak draft. we still need depth at sf, and Nico is the guy.

    5. Brandon - is he really done? will he only ever again be just a bench player? i've not heard anyone make any official statement to that effect. most of what i've seen has been fan speculation and conjecture. CP3 has little to no meniscus left in his knees, but he's learned to overcome that. if anyone else can join that club, it's Brandon. hold on to him, give him an off season and training camp to adapt to his body and the new offensive scheme, and i think you'll be surprised.

    6. Wesley - some nights he looks like an all-star, others he looks like a bench warmer. he's wildly inconsistent. just look at his game-by-game numbers. that being said, he will continue to get better and patch up those inconsistencies. he's got a long career ahead of him and it would serve us well if it was in a blazers uniform.

    7. Crash - is there really a question here? he's one to build around. give him a training camp and he'll be on the same page as Nate. he's signed through the season and has a player option for 2012-13. he's moving his family from charlotte to portland this summer so it appears he expects to be around for a while.

    8. LaMarcus - no question here either. It would help him to add a few more pounds of muscle and he's doing that by repeating his workout regiment from last summer. LaMarvelous (love that one!) will be an all-star this year.

    9. Rudy/Patty - Rudy is probably the most likely to be traded (according to many). love his hustle and his mind seems to be in the right place this summer, but with the team the way it is, there just won't be enough minutes for him anyway. Patty needs to stay. he's only going to get better in the areas he needs to. he's a get-teammates-involved-first guard who happens to have a nice jump shot. he's the quickest pg we have and we can use his change of pace -- not to mention his morale boost.

    10. Armon/Elliot/Luke. Elliot isn't going anywhere and i wouldn't advocate trading him anyway. we don't know his potential quite yet, but there is a place for him on this roster. before his knee surgery, he had a 46" vertical leap (that's nearly four feet). if he's lost a couple inches there, i can certainly live with that. Luke could have turned into a reliable shooter for us. the problem is, he's not reliable, and he's not gong to get to that point by playing behind Crash and Nico. he may just be the most tradable player we've got. it's great to have a shooter, but that guy does us no good sitting on the bench. Armon is just the victim of circumstance. there are too many other, better options at the point. if the team follows my advice here (not saying it will, but if), then the pg rotation will be Andre-Patty-Elliot. there's just no room for a fourth.
