What is the biggest key to victory?
Defending the 3 point line (Hold Dallas Under 40%) (12)
     29%
Sharing Is Caring (20+ Team Assists) (2)
     5%
Dynamic Duo To The Rescue (Over 40 Points From Roy & LA) (10)
     24%
Free Throws (Take At Least 20, Make At Least 16) (7)
     17%
Contain Maverick Role Players (Hold Dallas Bench To Under 30 Points) (10)
     24%

After being apart of the greatest fourth quarter comeback in Trail Blazers playoff history, the Trail Blazers tie up the series and head to Dallas on Monday for Game Five. The Trail Blazers ended the game on a 40-15 run, in which Brandon Roy scored 18 of his 24 in the fourth. Not only does the 84-82 win signify a tied series, but for the last six quarters, the Trail Blazers have held the Mavs to 123 points, just barely a 20 point per quarter average. Dallas had very few open looks, which shows how well Portland has adjusted to the pick and roll. But now it appears Portland has found an offensive rhythm with Roy penetrating the defense. If there was ever a time for the Blazers to win a road game in Dallas, it will be Game Five. After having the series in hand, Dallas now must deal with feelings of "here we go again" as their past playoff performances will put doubt in their minds.

Finally Portland kept Dirk off of the foul line, especially in the fourth. Dirk went only 1-3 shooting in the fourth and only attempted 4 total free throws. Terry came back down to life with his 5-16 shooting, but Kidd and Peja continued to bomb away from 3, going 5-10 from downtown. But Dallas most consistent performer? Shawn Marion. He made Portland pay for putting a smaller shooting guard on him by backing them down in the post. In the end, Matrix had 12 on 6-11 shooting, plus 11 boards. It seems like Dallas is getting a big night from a different role player every night. As long as it's just Dirk and one role player, Portland should be ok.

Although Portland won, the Blazers need to get much more offensively from Wallace, Batum, and Fernandez. The three players combined to shoot 5-19 from the floor for only 17 points (10 from Crash). Defensively, they are doing excellent. Rudy's pestering D on Barea late in the 3rd and early 4th set the tone for the comeback, Batum helped out on Dirk, ended with 2 blocks and a steal and Wallace 11 rebounds. The offense didn't start flowing until the team played with urgency. That is the same type of effort it will take to pull out Game Five in Dallas. Attack the hoop, drive and dish, and get to the line.

I choose the FT option.  Heck the Free throws early in the game were the only thing that kept us in the game early on (and we finally really penalized them for fouling us by making 22/23).  It also shows we aren't relying on the 3 point shot and showing some aggression.

Getting out to a quick start is important because all of Maverick Nation is reeling (the players, fans, coaches, owner), we need to step on their throat early and make them gasp for air and plead Uncle (Camby will happily show up and swat their shots into the 3rd row).

Pretty much shutting down Jason Terry was the key tonight, and unlike Dirk's Game 1 heroics, Terry never had the chance to bounce back in this game.  His last shot clanged off the rim as time expired.

Hopefully all the players are healthy and ready to roll (like they were at the start of Game 3).

We won game 4 on pure heart and that was Dallas best chance to shut the door on us but Brandon kick it down and the team followed the pressure is obviously on Dallas this is our best chance to steal this game on the road get a good start, get to the foul line and contain the role players so I say all of the above on the poll question but I will also add that Gerald needs to have a big game if we do that we should steal one.

I think now is the time to win in Dallas. We broke their hearts and spirit with that comeback and now all of the playoff doubt starts creeping back into their minds. They had this game, this series. Up 23, 13 minutes and change to go. And it all went away. Just like that. If this loss doesn't demoralize them, then I don't know what will. Now, we still need to come out and want it more, but I hope we have the mental advantage going into Dallas for Game 5.

But we need to move on offense and pass the ball. In the first three quarters all we did was post up someone and stand around. In the 4th, we got out on the break, got easy buckets and finally attacked the hoop and either scored or dished it off for the deuce.

Lost in all the comeback craziness is our defense. In the last 6 quarters, the Blazers have held Dallas to 123 points, or a 20 point per quarter average. Simply amazing. Keep it up boys!

I'm still stunned! Can't believe I went to bed at 1 am and missed this!!!! The other Portlander here in Prague also went to sleep, as he was tired, but checked the score and was, like me, stunned as well!

Yes, Dustin, I think we have to take advantage of the momentum we got from Game 4, this is our chance to put the hammer down and then we would just need you guys to once again, fire up the RG and put the Mavs away.

We have to contain the bench to under 30. The 3 point line everything just seems to go in for them hand in the face every shot should slow them down some. Also they were KILLING US ON OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS and second chances we need to turn that around.

Wallace needs to have a break out game, if he can give the team 20 + we have a three headed monster in Roy LA and Wallace. I think if Roy plays like he did in the 4th last night he will get doubled teamed and then wallace can attack the rim. I don't see them being able to defend us if we play this way. I just hope tomorrow we don't settle for jumpers like we did in the 3rd. I like our D in the 4th and this isn't the worry for me, it's scoring.

We cant let them get comfortable from downtown. Period. If we hold them under 35% shooting from three-point range we win this game

I totally Agree with you! Wallace needs to give a just a little bit more by getting inside and scoring. So many of our shots last night never turned into anything. They need to get scrappy and get inside and make their shots!

I've been following the Live Game Chat for the last month on and off (I'm in Charlotte, NC and have been a huge Wallace fan since the Charlotte team was born). I have quickly embraced the UpRIse movement (nearly impossible not to, in my opinion).

I was one of the few pushing for a Portland 1st round series versus the Lakers. That is because GW, and the teams he plays for, OWN the Lakers.  I'm not sure if it's the athleticism, the mojo, who knows what it is, but he has personally won about 10 of the last 13 games against Kobe & crew.   His swagger was shown in the last game against the Lakers when he went toe to toe with Artest.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Dallas.  GW (as a starter) had never beaten Dallas until he arrived in Portland.  Now with 3 victories under his belt, one would think the 'jinx/hex' would be lifted.  Sometimes players just don't excel against certain competition, I'm not sure what it is, but I just don't see GW going for 20 & 10, more likely 12 & 10.

Where GW can excel in this series is his versatility on Defense.  Outside of Haywood (because of the weight) GW could probably aggravate the snot out of every other player on the Maverick's roster.  With LMA and some combination of Wes or Roy picking up the top two scoring slots, GW can focus on creating havoc on the defensive end.

At this point in the series, especially for Game 5 in Dallas, it's about preventing Dallas from regaining their confidence.  That confidence is only going to come from the offensive end of the court.  My hope is Camby and Wallace have a joint Block Party early on in the game which leads to fast break scoring to quickly put the Dallas fans and their announcer back in their seats.

IMO, this game, game 5 will be by far the most difficult for Portland to win thus far in this first round series.  Typically, teams coming off emotional wins come out flat.  Noone on this planet can argue game 4 was not an emotional win.  Dallas has it's proverbial back against the wall coming in.  Even their own fan base and local media outlets are challenging them.  I forsee them coming out swinging, maybe literally even.  For Portland to have a chance tonight, they must weather the initial onslaught and get contributions from two of the three...GW, Nic, Rudy...while still getting the usual from LA, Miller, and as of late, BRoy.

Dallas is a much deeper team and Portland's two wins have come as a result of miracle, once in a season performances from two individuals, Matthews and Roy.  Very unlikely scenarios to repeat, especially when facing a well balanced team with perhaps the best closing big man in the game.  Without SIGNIFICANT contributions from more than just one non-starter, Dallas takes this game and series, just as I have called.

Portland finds itself in a gunfight, wielding only a knife.  A complete game must be played.

LaMarcus is tired.  If LA continues to be one of a dozen jumpshooters on this team, Dallas will take this series Thursday night, which is what I predicted.  The Blazers are simply outgunned in this series.  By the way, how is San Antonio doing?

That said, IF Portland can somehow reach into that magic bottle and find another miracle, forcing a seventh and deciding game, I like their chances in Dallas...where all of the pressure falls on the home team...and with the world watching.  Three days off between game 5 and 6 may be just what the doctor ordered for LaMarcus.

It looks like all those regular season minutes are catching up to aldridge. Too many jumpers and passes out of single coverage. We are at our best when he is attacking on the block.
In other news, remember when Luke Babbitt was supposed to replace Webster as a shooter? I think we know whats on Rich Chos summer to do list.

I completely agree.  Chandler was simply allowed to be way too impactful in tonights contest, due to the lack of attacking, in particular by Aldridge.  Difficult to draw fouls on an opposing big when you're shooting 16-18 footers all night.  LA's play was key at BOTH ends.

I foresee this Blazer team looking radically different when basketball resumes.  Cho will continue to be a very busy man.  I trust in Cho and have renewed, putting my money where my mouth is.  It may surprise some to know that Babbitt's salary is more than both Rudy and Nic's, and is comparable to that of Patty's, AJ's, and Chris Johnson's combined.  Remember, Babbitt was NOT Cho's pick.

Officiating.  Chandler was constantly pushing off Wallace, Camby, and Aldridge.  All I can suggest is to get vocal, pick up a T.  Otherwise you're going to let the refs and the mavs walk over you.

I did not see the game but I listened to it. It sounded like we needed to club the refs before the game to have any chance. It sounded worse than the first 2 games combined with the refs calling a few fouls at the end when the game was already won. The Mavs were so aggressive because they were not getting any calls and it sounded like they were pushing it to the limit.
Now that the Mavs only need one game to advance one could only hope they stop this home town ref @#$% and let the teams play the final 2 games without bias. Yes I said final 2 games.

You can blame the refs all you want but that doesn't excuse no effort or hunger in the second half of the game it like another team showed up Andre was the only one that showed up in the second half 20 offensive rebounds are you kidding me I didn't know what to say when I heard that number.

The refs were inconsistent as the FT disparity shows, especially through 2 1/2 quarters; however, we need to adjust.  We were called for a few offensive fouls early and decided to stop being aggressive on the offensive end (in shooting and rebounding).  Dallas didn't get the same offensive fouls and stayed aggressive in drives and rebounding the entire game.  From a coaching point of view, I was only able to listen to the game, so I may be off-base because I couldn't see the energy level, but I do not understand the minutes that Rudy got (over Roy and/or Wes).  Additionally, we have proven earlier in the season that Chandler is soft and will continue fouling when he gets frustrated, but we never made a point to go at him.  The game plan should've been, feed LMA low, create spacing and either pick up a foul on Tyson, hit GW, Miller or Wes slashing to the rim or find someone for an open 3.  Instead we made Tyson look like a world beater.

The good thing is...we have a game Thursday and it's at the RG.  Game 5 is over, we are just like we were towards the end of the regular season, every game is a must win to get what we want.  We were very successful against the top teams in the West after the trade deadline and as much of a blow out as last night's game became, it was our for the taking in the 1st quarter.

I wish I could say yes..but in this series, I think we need to focus on Crash being the 3rd scoring option behind LMA and then Roy or Wes.  GW can show his value on Defense and the transition game.  I know one thing, he will give every ounce of energy on Thursday, just like his teammates and the fans.

i think officiating was horrible but i was disappointed in the attitude. dont hang your head and accept it blazers, get hungry and attack. and for pete sake when kid or barea drives to the paint dont stare at them, foul them, hard, and remind them they aren't big. tyson chandler is playing a lot like rodman/malone he's getting away with cheap shots all night, maybe someone should give him a well placed elbow to let him know he's not getting away with it anymore. anything but complain and feel sorry for yourselves.

As I said before Joel's name even began surfacing in trade rumors, THIS is where he'd be missed most.  The Thrilla's presence on this squad meant so much more than any number on a stat sheet.  Short of throwing Buck into uniform, I don't see this team's personality changing before Thursdays game.  As with everything else, without a clear enforcer, this toughness element you refer to will have to be a collective effort.  Home cookin' may help.  Let's hope.

The Blazers will not win this series, and maybe not even another game, until and unless they are finally able to put together a COMPLETE GAME.  They've been lucky twice thus far, riding the improbable performances of two players in the two wins.
