Will Portland's bench respond in Game Three?
    YES (23)
    NO (6)

They say the series doesn't truly begin until the road team wins a game. Luckily for the Trail Blazers, the next two games will be in the friendly confines of the Rose Garden, in front of the most rabid fan bases in the entire NBA. Portland can quickly make this a series again by taking the next two and forcing a pivotal Game Five in Dallas. But, before we even think about heading back to Dallas tied up at 2, the Trail Blazers have a lot to work on. Once again, they allowed Dallas open shots from downtown (8-19) and couldn't keep Dirk off of the foul line (15-17). And the bench needs much more production than 11 points, especially when Dallas gets 39 from theirs. Even though the Trail Blazers have done things uncharacteristically in each game (2-16 from 3 in Game 1, 18-27 FT in Game 2), Portland finds a way to turn it up a notch in the Rose City.

Not only did Gerald Wallace bounce back from his 8 point Game One performance with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists but Wesley Matthews rebounded strong (after getting knocked out mind you) to add in 13 points on 6-11 shooting. Both are great signs moving forward, as was LaMarcus Aldridge's 24 point, 10 rebound, 3 block effort in the defeat. I think it's easy to say Game Three and the rest of the postseason hinge on the production of our bench. The Blazers have got a combined 9 points in two games from Rudy Fernandez & Brandon Roy. That simply won't cut it. Nic Batum started off hot in Game Two with 10 first-half points, but didn't register any more in the final 24 minutes.

With the offense knowing what to work on (bench production), the defense must, must, must close out on their shooters. Game 1 it was Kidd shooting 6-10 from 3 and Game 2 had the same story but with a new character. Kidd goes 7-11 from the floor and 3-6 from 3, but it was Peja Stojakovic who went bananas from downtown, reverting back to 2002 Peja by nailing 5-10 from deep and all at the right time Portland was about to make a push. I'd suggest a strict one-one defense on Dirk, since he's been subpar from the field this series and I don't want to give their shooters any more looks. Portland played alright in both contests so far but realistically could have had either game. As long as they take it one game at a time, this series is still winnable!

All this team needs is A home game to get the confidence back up hopefully Brandon can give us somthing because he has no confidence right now I feel for him because i know he wants to help this team I hope Dallas left the time machine and we would see Peja from the Kings and Kidd from the Nets, but I still believe we can even the series and go from there.

Still in shock we are down 0-2. The odds are so against us, but we aren't out of it yet. I'd like to see more of a focus on the glass. Dallas hasn't tried to run on us, yet we don't have anyone ever inside trying to grab offensive rebounds. And for the love of Blaze the Trail Cat, can we please quit going under the screens on the pick and roll? I still think we can win on Thursday, but we need more than one half of good ball from Batum and a full game from the other members of the bench.

    1. As everyone in the league has said "Portland doesn't score enough points." This is the problem and has been the problem with this team and I don't see it changing anytime this year. L.A. needs some  help and our bench doesn't really offer him any. We might win one at home if  Wallace scores more points, but as far as this year I see us out again in the first round. We just haven't really corrected the lack of a consistent scoring presence other than LA.

    2. Once again Rudy seems to be crumbling in the Post season and Roy looks completely Lost, while Batum is the only glimmer of Hope for us off the bench, but can disappear at times on offense. Our starters hold down their part but we have nothing off the bench like Dallas has in Terry, Peja, and Berea. I think this is the key to the series and to be honest our bench doesn't give me that much confidence right now.

there should have been another pick in the vote
#$@% I hope so. I picked yes but I would have chosen this one if it was offered.
@ Kenny: rudy has been crumbling since about halfway through the season I think he was prepping. I have no answer for Roy except for that  I do not understand I thought he got surgery on his knees not his game IQ and elbows.

NOW, is anyone ready to change their predictions?  At least with it being spring, those of you holding your brooms can get some cleaning done.  DALLAS IS A GOOD TEAM.  The disrespect shown the Mavs on these boards leading up to game 2 was unconscionable to me.  I feel this fanbase struggles with objectivity at times and has really become quite manic.  Remember, Dallas proved over an 82 game regular season sample to be the best road team in the league, and are now riding a wave of momentum coming to Portland, sending Vegas oddsmakers scrambling.  I don't believe that giving a Blazer opponent credit earned has anything to do with lack of loyalty to our hometown heroes.  Last year, same thing.  Portland drew Phoenix, the only team thought to be less physical than Portland, and there was talk of brooms.

All that said, D is right.  This series is not over.  For Portland to keep pace with this loaded Mavs roster, they must be firing on ALL cylinders.  To beat this Dallas team in a seven game series, that must happen four times in seven games.  However possible this might be, not likely, and the reason for me picking Dallas to advance.  In game 1, LA didn't get enough help from the starters.  Game 2, starters stepped up, but the bench again was a non-factor.  We cannot race this sportscar of a basketball team driving the family stationwagon.  My keys haven't changed.

Well said B. I picked the Mavs in 7 not because I have no loyalty, but because I have watched every game for the last 3 seasons and we seem always to be in need of more scoring. We play pretty Good D. but if you don't score you don't win and this has been the problem with our team since we made it Back to the playoffs. I though Wallace would fill in some of the Gaps and he has in his short time here, but we need another wallace type player, I thought Rudy could potentially do this, since he shows flashes of being a scorer but alas has disappeared, like barnett suggested, half way through the  season. This next season we need to seriously get another scorer!!!

So what do we do now with what we have? Thursday is the game that will decide. So who scores more points. What can Nate do to get this offense rolling. My suggestion is that you Post wallace and LA in the 4th on every play. Put the onus on the refs to give us more free throws like Dirk is getting - LA had 8 free throws Dirk had 17, I don't think Dirk is playing any harder or going to the rack any more than LA. Wallace had no points and no free throws in the 4th - WHAT????

Wallace can abuse almost any 3 in the paint why not run the offense through him every other possession. I like the posting of Wallace and if that's not working he can pass out to LA who can shoot over his defender. Then on the next play post LA who can do the same. Seems simple, right? Dallas is running very simple posts with Dirk and if that isn't working he is passing out for the spot up 3 or just going to the rack and expecting the whistle - which he is getting, that gives them more points - very simple. Anyway after the Boston Redsocks came back Against NY there is always hope that we can get hot and pull it out, but if I had to bet I will go with the numbers and what I've seen.

I was wrong Wallace had 2 free throws in the 4th at the 11:02 mark. These were the last two points he scored in the game.

Well Bdawg, it was you yourself who doubted the abilities of Kidd and in game two i think he aimed all his points at you personally.
lets face it, that dude is sleeping on the front stoop of the hall of fame, there is no room to underestimate him anymore.
    Or any of Dallas's players.
Dallas hasnt even brought the fire yet. Dirk is their flaming sword from the heavens and in game 2 half of his points were from the line. Wait till he scores 30 + whatever he gets from the line. Dirk has been mediocre to say the least so far in this series, he has been pulling a few quick ones on Aldridge that i have seen, so my first change would be to get Camby on Dirk and put the taller Aldridge on the Taller Chandler........
I also think this team needs to get a little dirt on their shorts. They need to get in down low and bump and fight for points in turn sending them to the line. Play rough against them, push for the and 1.

Another thing for Portland to think about to go with Dirk not playing at his best is the absence of Caron Butler. The blazers are so fortunate to have some of the breaks they are getting yet they are not taking advantage of it. Butler is one of the more fierce players on that dallas roster and a decent 15+ points a night.

Take advantage of whats going on with this Dallas team, they are about as amazed as i am that they have had this much success. Playing at home will help, but like i said before, It doesnt matter how good the fans are if the players themselves do not want to win.
Portland is better than they are playing, ten times as good.

Dallas can't and will not win in Portland. Our fans will lift the Blazers to out hustle, out work and simply out play Dallas.  We will get our confidence and our bench back.  It will take all 7 games for us to get rid of the Mav's, but we will do it. Uprise!!

What will it take for us to pick up our defense.
We have the worst perimeter defense in the league.
And, we usually slack off of whom ever has the hottest hand at the moment.
    What's up with that?
If we can't stop the bleeding from outside the three point line, it's over.
I am a fan of Portland played uninspired today. No sense of urgency no offensive rebounds, no tenatious defense.

We need to ride the momentum of the crowd and jump out to an early lead. I'll be really worried if we don't get out to a quick start.

Batum is going to have to play well. We need to constantly switch up the D on Dirk and Nic will be in that rotation. Patty can always speed up the game. Sometimes he will give us momentum and that is what we need. I'd like to see Roy get a chance. If he scores double digits we will win.

i would say, perhaps maybe even play %1 defense on Jason Kidd, or doubt him some more and see what happens....

Peja- he isnt out there for looks, so  maybe some d on him.

Get to the foul line, create contact when driving inside. i just cant believe this team made it to the playoffs ?

and finally dont rely on the fans for the whole hump of the support. they are not going to win this game, its going to come down to the players and this squad needs a reality check or a wake up call for the last time.
