According to Mike Tokito from the Oregonian, LaMarcus Aldridge has had the edge over Dirk Nowitzki each time the Trail Blazers and Mavericks have played.

So in the three games, Aldridge averaged 27.7 points and 8.7 rebounds and shot 52.9 percent from the field (36 for 68). Nowitzki averaged 21.7 points and 7.3 rebounds and shot 52.5 percent (21 for 40). The Blazers won two, Dallas one.
Aldridge also does a good job of defending Nowitzi as his length and athleticism allows him to contest Nowitzki's famously awkward fallaway jump shot even when Nowitzki steps out behind the three-point arc. Nowitzki only occasionally defends Aldridge as Dallas assigns that task to its centers and also relies heavily on a zone.

I think I have to agree with the article. The numbers speak for themselves and Dirk looked really pedestrian last night. Don't get me wrong, Dirk is a Hall Of Fame level player, but in the context of a 7-game series, we have the horses to throw at Dirk, seemingly one right after another, to wear him down. I mean think about it. They can use either Dirk (average defender), Chandler or Haywood on LA. I think Haywood's past his prime and Chandler can be easily tricked (throw up a pump fake and boom, foul on Tyson). While we can throw out LA, Wallace, Batum, even Camby on Nowitzki. They have no other bigs to space the floor, so the double can come from multiple places on the court.

I still think Dirk is the better overall player (better scorer, done it for a longer period of time), but not by much. What gives LA the edge in this particular series is the supporting cast we have compared to theirs. I could see Dirk breaking down, as he has done in the past in the playoffs, because the Mavs just don't have a ton of other scoring options.

dude i was saying this to you the other day mann.

Why is aldridge 8th in the mvp race and dirk is 5th when Dirk gets maybe 3-4 more points per game and he has a 3pt %, thats like the only difference, maybe tweak the rest of the numbers +/- 0.2, maybe.....
Aldridge is , i think a better player than dirk this year.
Dirk , when i have seen him play, has been so off he is just not hitting his shots, and really thats how he gets work done.

Clyde, dont forget that the mavs have Kidd, Terry, Butler.....i would consider those guys scorers especially Terry, but he is like dirk, they are both either on....or way off at any given night....that whole team kind of follows that too.

We know exactly what JJ defense at the 4 is and it is just as bad as the 5 you act like he has been playing center his whole career.

Exactamundo. Seriously though, both of you''ll are right. The blame should be placed on the attacker, not Lillard. That being said, Dame should have stepped in.

Sanders is 6''11" Cailin he is about 5 pounds lighter than LA so his size should not be an issue.

I completely agree. Pierce would bring a culture change. And we as a team really needed someone to help our young players through the tough times. Jeffires and Pavlovic were veterans who didn''t see much court time and from what I saw didn''t real...

Joakim Noah has had his injury troubles. His crazy game and high energy make him a constant injury threat. What separates him from Oden and Rose (I had to just mention him) is his willingness to play the way he loves.
