Anything goes in Stern’s NBA, except challenging the emperor. The league office never cares about criticism about most of its biggest stars, owners and coaches. In some cases, it’ll openly encourage it. Want to invite a call to your boss? That’s easy. Pull back the curtain on the commissioner.

Stern told the room he knows where “the bodies are buried” in the NBA, witnesses recounted, because he had buried some of them himself.

“It was shocking,” Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose(notes) told Yahoo! Sports. “I was taking off my gear, and when he said that, I just stopped and thought, ‘Whoa …’

“I couldn’t believe that he said it.”

Not really going anywhere with this other than interesting reads.  Can't believe I missed the buried bodies comment last month... The Dude is a lunatic lol, frozen envelope or not!

I am a fan of Rudy and Patty's off-court bromance.

If anyone has ever listened to stern talk, one thing is clear - he thinks he is the be all and end all of all things NBA.

I think the structure that allows for one man to hold that much power is systemically broke.

Where are the checks and balances for Stern, who is watching him and judging his actions, what standard is he subject to?

It can't be the kingdom that He rules.

Lets hope the owners, players, media and us fans can limit his power, by calling his bluff.

I still have no idea why a non-player (stern) could ever represent and lead the NBA!!!

It's like having a man speak on what it's like to be a woman during child birth- somethings just can't be reconciled.

this really doesn't come as any great news. we've known for years that the officiating trends come from the top of the league, not to mention that 27 of the championships won in Stern's 31-year tenure have been won by large market teams. he's repeatedly has shown that the way to make money is by promoting large-market teams and high-profile players.

his ego is huge, but i predict one day he will go down in an equally as huge firey ball of flames.

I'd settle for a humiliating discharge from his position and a public caning lol.

Very interesting read. I'm not sure who's right and who's wrong between the two parties (owners and players union) at the CBA negotiations. My guess is it's a little of both on both sides. I do have an opinion about us - the fans - not being represented though. Afterall, the revenue they are fighting over is ours before it's theirs. That's true wether you buy tickets and NBA gear or not. One of the biggest sources of revenue is advertising, and we're all consumers of some product whos marketing is tied to the NBA. That's a whole nother topic though.

Here's one thing I am CERTAIN of though. If Stern is using his clout to leverage behavior of people associated with the NBA, even going so far as to get involved in the outcomes of games and the success and failure of certain franchises to get his way as the article suggests (ie, not having flagrants called on certain players), then he needs to be removed immediately. The players union AND the owners should call for a vote of confidence and kick is arrogant ignorant ass out of there. One thing noone can ever mess with, no matter who you are, is the integrity of the game. Ask Pete Rose and Tim Donaghy.

Any behavior that puts the integrity of the game into question should result in an immediate life time ban. Noone can be above that simple law of common sense. It's amazing to me that in this case, the person who comes just short of admiting it, is actually the commissioner of the association.

Absolutely amazing! This idiot will ruin the NBA if he's allowed to. In his mind I'm sure professional wrestling is a successful 'sports' league, and Vince McMahaon has layed out a perfect business model of how to make a whole crap load of mula. I am one fan who is not interested. That dude better clean it up quick or he's going to start losing people. What a dousche! HATE that guy!

One can make an arguement that he was a very effective executive for a long time, but that time has past.  In the last 5 years or so he just has become crasse, ignorant and comes off as egnomaniac. Stern has long out lived his usefullness.  It is time a new young group takes over.  It is time to start to transition this league to a league that looks to market the team more rather than the player.

    Lol Stern country.  Hahahaha.

Good write-up Jason.  I wonder what an NBA revolution might look like.  It really does need to happen.  You know somebody has enough dirt on this guy to push him out the door though.  It shouldn't take a revolution.  I just want to see him out on his arse.  The sooner the better.  Outside of Sprite and Kia, I can't imagine anybody surrounding the league actually enjoys the current Commish.
