    Dear Blazer Nation,

I hope you realize what you - scratch that, we - have in Gerald Wallace.  Since I decided I couldn't stand rooting for Kobe Bryant many years ago, I immediately began scouting for a new team.  It was the year of expansion and my difficult decision was made easy - I'd root for the new team, the Charlotte Bobcats - and when they won it all I'd be rewarded for an unwavering loyalty to my team.  After all, it was unrealistic that we'd be crowned champions of world any time soon.  It might last a decade or more but I'd wait it out.

The decision to root for this new team was quickly confirmed as a great one as soon as I saw Gerald Wallace play.  As a former college player myself I understood the taxes of playing in a serious hoop game and so watching this guy mop the floor night in and night out inspired me.  Simply put - Gerald Wallace is a "life lesson."  Charles Barkley might disagree and Gerald Wallace might also disagree, but Gerald is the best role model in the NBA and it didn't take me long to point him out to my son and say, "Son, play like him and see where it takes you.  And not just in hoops - in school and with your friends.  Work at life like this plays and you'll be paid back - I promise."  And let me tell you - he has and even at 9 his life is taking shape - and for me to utilize one man's effort to deliver such a message was by definition - a role model.

Gerald is not about Gerald.  Gerald is about effort and work.  He's a real teammate.  He's hesitant to enter dunk contests because they are individual and about showmanship but will do it if he thinks it can help get fans into the arena to gain a better home court advantage.  He's quick to high five a teammate and even quicker to endure a broken rib or a concussion if it means he's going to draw a charge or go to the line.  If Magic Johnson was picking his team back in the day - Gerald Wallace would be pick #1 - because we all know Magic learned to win the pick games in Lansing by always choosing guys that wanted to win the most - not the most talented players.  And Gerald wants to win.  He's proven it by his unsurpassed and quite unbelievable effort and by the growth of his own skills that he's worked on over the years - and he'll continue to improve because he simply refuses to stops trying to get better.

And so my patient walk with the 'Cats' has ended, and today I choose to root for this man - a real man with real heart and guts and desire and talent - and the journey has carried me to Portland.  I only hope that Coach McMillan realizes that Crash needs the floor and the team needs him to start.  The fans in Portland have always been fantastic, and to have this guy sprinting back to swat a layup into the stands - to have him dive for an impossible loose ball that he doesn't even get and that travels out of bounds - to have him wipe the floor with taken charge after taken charge - to have him even get hurt and then come back out of the tunnel to give even more effort.  It's the kind of thing that can take a good team to the next level -

I am a fan of Gerald Wallace and his unsurpassed effort.

Great thread.  We're happy to have Wallace here and we have seen already a lot of what you're talking about.  Not only that but we've seen some of the Bobcats and our current players learn from that.  Gerald plays the game with effort and energy, and I do believe that's what will take us to the next level.

    Welcome to the Blazers.

All you have to do to learn how I feel about GW being a Blazer is read my fan statement below.  He plays the game the way I'm raising my son to live his life...make every moment count as if it is your last, no regrets.

I can personally attest to the "Role Model" assertion you make with regard to Gerald.  Before the Atlanta game on the 27th of February, Wallace was among the most sought after of autographs by the kids in attendance for YMCA Night.  He must have signed everything put in front of him, happily doing so and all while only having been in town for a matter of hours.  Truly a gentleman and an ambassador to the game.  He may remember signing for my son, as he was the only one with a Gerald Wallace basketball card.  Thank you Mr. Wallace.  Much respect.

Sorry for reading posts ON A FORUM! LOL!

I love how you just start name calling. Real mature buddy. I'm entitled to my opinion, he's entitled to his. I bet calling me names makes you feel pretty tough, huh?

If you want to get into syntax and grammatical issues with posts then why be redundant and list eyes twice? Not to mention "play" should have an "s" at the end of it for correct subject verb agreement. Not to mention I bet it made you feel real tough to put down the creator of this thread much like how you attempt to call out freddead for the same basic thing. Do you see the irony?

nah tiki is allowed to say what he wants ( even though he should not have said that) but just leave it be instead of everyone riding in on their white red and black high horse and play pius peace maker, the only person who should of made a comment back to tiki is a moderator via message or the creator of the thread (original poster)

but there is no irony in that, just annoying. :D

oh i would love to see who decides on who is a "hardcore good person or a Dbag"
    Polarizes? hahaha.

the Ohklahoma City Thunder have not only spiritually but economically boosted their city's stats. the town with the smallest population of a town with an NBA team, is literally feeling the complete opposite effects of the "recession" the rest of the country is battling with.
their players are so involved in the community within the heart of the city, they really are killin it.

It's been less than 2 weeks since my initial post - and not surprisingly Crash continues to play his eye balls out.  The stat book shows 40 points last night - but the guy must have created 6 OKC turnovers by taking charges and throwing himself on the floor to draw the attention of the refs for illegal screens.  Can anyone name me one other player that does what this guy does?  The guy loves to play and is a fierce, fierce competitor.  He doesn't back down to anyone.  How many guys in this league dive for loose balls just to keep them alive.  A lot might hit the floor to CLAIM a loose ball, but Gerald dives for balls just to keep them alive so that someone else can get it.  I'd hate to play against this guy - he's just a nuisance to deal with it - and if you don't match his effort - you'll lose.  And if you try to match his effort - you'll likely have a bad game, i.e. Kevin Durant last night.  Despite the loss, last night was awesome to watch and I'm glad he's starting again.  I can already tell the rest of the team is following his lead and playing just a little bit harder.  The playoffs are going to be exciting!

    Go Blazers.

As for the hate mail from the original post - there is no monopoly on stupid so I can't waste my time with people that only try to tear down intelligence b/c they are mad at the world.

I am a fan of Gerald Wallace and his unsurpassed effort.

    wait.....
are you just a fan of Gerald Wallace?
because it said "bobcats fan" and you mention not being able to root for kobe anymore? so when rooting for Kobe, would that qualify you for a "laker fan"

im sorry, i guess my being so monopolistically stupid creates some "grey areas" on your post.

and yes it is, ad verb.

Nothing gray about the post - I'd rather eat glass than root for Kobe.  Reread the original post and focus - maybe it'll click.

And yes - I'm a Gerald Wallace fan that has followed his NBA journey to Portland - so that makes me a Portland fan.  Go Blazers!

Lastly Tay - you are not monopolistically stupid - the point that you missed is that because there is no monopoly on intelligence, or in this case lack thereof, anyone can say foolish things to be negative.  It's much easier to tear something down than build it up - a point you are proving with your negative energy.

I am a fan of Gerald Wallace and his unsurpassed effort.

Thats the one thing I miss seeing day in and day out is his drive and unselfishness. Im still a Bobcats fan probably always will be, but Portland has a new follower. The post basically describes everything Crash was to the Bobcats, and for as long as he was in Charlotte, he was the Bobcats (well maybe it was Emeka's team the first year or two) but Emeka never bought anything to the table Crash did. So Portland be glad you got one hell of a player and one more supporter.

P.S. About my name I'm not a troll or anything, I'm just being honest with everyone here.
I am a fan of the Charlotte Bobcats, who has taken a interest in the Blazers since a certain player was traded to Portland.

I wouldn't say he was a bust (Emeka) he averaged a double-double every year he was in Charlotte. He caught the injury bug the second year and he wasn't a human highlight reel like the person drafted before him. He was that guy who was consistent but never too flashy. Alot of people complained about that but I never minded. They traded him away for his contract (Emeka's current deal has him wayyyyy overpaid, Tyson Chandler had less years and was also traded away for money). I just personally think his deal was he was never the "Star" type.
