    Press Release-
“With his NBA and USA Basketball track record, Nate has established himself as one of the premier minds in the game of basketball,” said Cho. “What Nate has accomplished in the last few years is truly remarkable and getting his contract extended was a top priority for the franchise and me.”
"Over the past 12 months we have made significant investments in this team, all keenly focused on assembling the right pieces to compete this year and in the future," Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen said. "We’ve done that by adding Marcus, Wesley and most recently, Gerald and, now, I’m glad that after productive discussions, Nate is now committed to be our coach for two more years.”

Nate has a sub-500 record with the Trail Blazers. The jury is still out for me on Nate. The Blazers have lost too many games at home this year. That should not happen, especially against bad teams. And the defense is poor at best. This comes down to coaching. I can't think of a better coach right now though. There aren't too many good coaches available.

I know there was a chance he wouldn't resign, but I'm glad that he agreed to the extention. His work with the U.S. Men's National Team is awesome!

Nate's a great team coach.  But I'd like to see him get more into it when on the sideline.  Sometimes after a horrible call he just stands there with his arm crossed and pouts.  Other than that, I'm glad we signed him and got this out of the way.

And, in the next 5 games, if we win them all, he'll have a .500 record as a Portland coach.  Very impressive since he was here in the rebuilding days.

I'm 50/50 on nate as our coach. I think you can argue it both ways and have valid points. But since he is here I'll argue the positive 50 and support him.

STABILITY.  Agree with you D.  Like the move, however can't help but wonder why only 2 years, and which side that came from?  Two years=one full season.  Curious

You obviously haven't been a fan for that long. He took over the Trail Blazers team when they were still the "Jail Blazers". His first few seasons were ROUGH here. Had terrible players, terrible attitudes, everything was terrible. Then slowly through the drafts with Nate, Pritchard, Allen, we started bringing in some real talent and Nate has turned all of that into a great thing. Yeah, we haven't gotten out of the first round the past two years but let's be honest... Did we really expect to beat the Rockets two seasons ago when our team had NO veterans and NO playoff experience? Then last year, with no Oden yet again and No Roy for the first few games (shouldn't have played at all in the series) and a Batum with a hurt shoulder, we still managed to take Phoenix who was completely healthy to 6 games. I hope we can turn our fortunes in the playoffs around this year. "And the defense is poor at best". Really? We're one of the top defensive teams in the league. Check your facts.
I am a fan of having a completely healthy team for once.

Great news! I know there many out there who don't like him, but I think, through all the tough injuries, he's gotten us through it. Yes, there were some downs, but all in all, he is a player's coach and I think it's great for both the players and us fans to know that there will be that stability. Hopefully, with GO back next year, the struggles and the potential will all come full circle - we are doing great as it is and I think with patience (which we have already shown) and continuing to fight (which we are) we are on our way. No matter though, I'm standing by this team . . to those who get frustrated and start calling for people to go - I don't get that.

    GO BLAZERS!
I am a fan of Lillard, Batum, Lopez, LA and T Rob taking it to other teams!

I'll lean toward this being good news. Nate is a great regular season coach and can work wonders when dealing with adversity.  Now we need to see how he handles a playoff run! My question is will this team be on a championship run within the next two years?

I am a fan of new seasons and new possibilities.

Only smart move he could make, especially with Karl getting his extension, Nate is growing as a coach, alongside our players, and he's fit into Cho's future, so what more could you ask for. Give Nate the benefit of the doubt that he can pull us out of the first round with a semi healthy team. Letting Nate go would have been the worst move since the Kings let Adelman go.

Just goes to show you there isn't much defense in the NBA these days. I'm not a stats guy, I just watch the games and see no weak side help. There's too many easy baskets, lay-ups. But the up-side to this is GW. He is a great defender, but more importantly, he brings it every night, unlike the rest of the team. Hope his play rubs off on the rest of the players. I admit I'm a casual fan, but I have followed the team since the Walton, Lucas days.

I found that Portland is ranked 8th in team defense. That's not bad. Some of the other stats are not too good, however.

according to the NBA, the only place that portland ranks above number 8 in defense is in the steals catagory, with steals at home and opp.

however i do not think that Nate is the caliber of coach that can take a team to a championship, for the last couple years he has had the SLOWEST pace in the NBA, and more and more teams in the league are picking up their pace and killing it in transition.

Nate and comp. have done a great job putting the pieces back together when this team was riddled with injuries, but the major problem still is playing consistent, giving effort at every game. This last road trip could have been a great one, but turned sour because of the lack of effort against the Bobcats and Hawks. As fans we deserve to see effort every game. Now, I can understand that on some nights a team will lay an egg. Portland lets this happen too much however. So, where does this problem of inconsistency fall? I'm not ready to say Nate isn't the caliber of coach that can take a team to a championship, but lets face it, this team isn't a championship contender. I would be happy with consistency, or playing hard every night, and against the weaker teams. And I agree, they should run more. Nothing gets a team going faster than transition baskets. This team is still missing pieces. A solid center that isn't hurt, like Joel, even though he didn't score he did everything else. I know Joel got hurt, but he is younger than Camby and showed Portland he was making progress. He played well against the Lakers, his last game with us. And we could really use a true point guard.Miller isn't getting any younger and his play is inconsistent. Sadly, Portland may find it time to let Mac. go if he doesn't find consistency in this team.
