Press Release: Trail Blazers Assign Luke Babbitt To Idaho Stampede
Babbitt was assigned to the Stampede earlier this season on Dec. 8, posting averages of 18.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 27.3 minutes in four games before The Trail Blazers recalled him on Dec. 18.

In my opinion, this is a bummer. With us still being shorthanded in the power forward department, I was hoping Luke would be able to get some run at the NBA level and show why he was a 1st round pick. But things don't always work out that way and maybe going back to Idaho was the right decision where he can get plenty of playing time. I think the one aspect of. his game he needs to really hone in on is the mental approach. We all know he can shoot, but he's got to play with confidence and believe he's going to make those shots. We will continue to track Babbitt's performances in the NBDL as they occur so keep it locked here!

How many 3's has he taken?  He never even looks like he wants to shoot, which is too bad because he could be like a Kyle Korver or better for us

No argument with the move here.  Babbitt isn't getting any court time here.  He might as well head to Idaho and get some.  He definitely seems to need some confidence building.  Maybe he can find that there.

good move. luke's far from ready. he doesnt look anything like a 1st round pick to me. hopefully he can get better in the d league and get ready to contribute. we sure could use a backup 4 like d hawes said, but luke isnt the guy... at least not yet.

He looked nervous everytime he was out there. When you are out there for only 2 minutes at a time every 6th game or so I kinda understand. maybe some more time in the D league will prep him for the 2 minutes every 6th game or so in the NBA.

He needs to get aggressive and take the ball to the rack, shoot some free throws and stuff. That, and the Justin Bieber haircut needs to go. We don't need Blazers that look like they're 13yrs old.

With G-Dub and Batum playing well - Babbit will struggle to get game time.
Dont think he is aggressive enough for the PF position.

Hope he comes back stronger and all the more wiser.

    Game 1: Idaho 123, Sioux Falls 93

Antoine Walker posted a team-high 18 points on 7-of-11 field goals (4-of-6 3-pointers). Portland Trail Blazers assignee Luke Babbitt and Seth Tarver both posted 17 points while Cedric Jackson just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine assists.

    Statline: In a starting role - 22 minutes, 17 points, 4-9 field goals, 0-4 from 3, 9-10 free throws, 6 rebounds

I love the fact he can score 17 on only 9 shots. Efficiency is key for role players, what Luke is for the Blazers. I still am waiting for him to breakout from the 3 point line, but I guess it'll have to wait another day. But, seeing 10 free throw attempts should make any Blazers fan happy. That shows Luke wasn't just settling for perimeter jump shots but was being aggressive and assertive in getting to the cup.

    Game 2: Idaho 114, Iowa 112

Luke Babbitt led the way for Idaho with 23 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Jermareo Davidson had 19 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, Tony Bobbitt added 17 points, Joe Dabbert had a season-high 16 points and Antoine Walker had 15 points. Cedric Jackson had nine points and nine assists.

    Statline: In a starting role, 31 minutes, 23 points, 9-14 field goals, 2-4 3 point, 3-3 free throws, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals

Amazing performance by Luke. Another efficient shooting night and this time he found the touch from downtown. Even more impressive is the 12 rebounds, 4 dimes and 4 steals. You can tell Luke is really trying to use this experience to develop his all-around game. His attitude is great for his long-term progression.

I sade "Kyle Korver or better"  also don't dis on Korver, he is a great shooter and we would be lucky to get a deep threat like him, J-Rich, or Reddick

I really don't see Armon stepping onto the court unless it is a huge blowout one way or the other.  Either the Blazers already have a game in the bag or it turns into garbage time.  Other than that he will keep riding that bench.  I think he could benefit from some D-league time just like Babbitt is.

I adore the guy - watched him down at UNR and was totally stoked when he came up here. But I do think that going to the D-league is for the best. Playing time is exactly what he needs to build up that confidence.

@Tobyus- I agree. He needs to cut that hair.

    forget his hair.

It would be a bummer Dhawes, if he could effectively play the PF position.
I dont think its his confidence that is the issue, the dude is 6'9 and only 217lbs?

cmon, wtf is that about? talk about a string bean. he took about 11 3's and made one, 5 turnovers
he just needs to get bigger. If you are going to put him in the number 4 spot, look at the guys you are forcing him to play against, if you play him at the 3 spot it gets a bit lighter maybe, but can he play that spot, is he fast enough?
i have said it from day one, his size and his playing abilities dont add up and certainly dont fit in well with the current roster.

    Game 2: Idaho 92, Bakersfield 105

Portland Trail Blazers assignee Luke Babbitt had a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds, but the Idaho Stampede shot 36.0 percent from the floor, just 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from the three-point line and had 21 turnovers in a 105-92 loss to the Bakersfield Jam (25-15) Friday night at Qwest Arena. Idaho (17-23) made just 26-of-39 free throws.

    Statline: In a starting role - 33 minutes, 23 points, 8-17 field goals, 0-1 from 3, 7-9 free throws, 14 rebounds

Is Luke becoming a beast? 23 & 14 with 9 trips to the foul line? I think we can all agree that Babbitt has the talent, but whether or not he can play with the confidence in Portland that he's showing in Idaho. I hope he develops, because we really could use another big who can shoot.

    Game 4: Idaho 93, Bakersfield 115

Carlos Wheeler had 19 points, Tony Bobbitt (6-12 3FG) had 18, Luke Babbitt had 16 and Antoine Walker had 14 points, but the Idaho Stampede (17-24) lost 115-93 to the Bakersfield Jam (26-15) on Saturday night.

    Statline: In a starting role, 29 minutes, 16 points, 5-12 field goals, 2-5 3 point, 4-6 free throws, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block

it's hard to tell if his defense has improved any just by looking at a box score. but Luke's been consistently putting up efficient numbers in all four outings for Idaho. Even though he's getting minutes and producing for them in the NBDL, I hope we call him up soon so he can witness what playoff-type basketball is like down the stretch run of the season.

    Game 5: Idaho 94, Tulsa 85

Luke Babbitt had 30 points and 14 rebounds, Jermareo Davidson had 17 points and 13 rebounds and the Idaho Stampede (18-24) overcame a dismal first quarter (15 points, 5-of-18 shooting) and first half (34 points, 8-18 FT) to beat the Tulsa 66ers 94-85 (29-14) at Qwest Arena on Wednesday night.

    Statline: In a starting role - 39 minutes, 30 points, 9-17 field goals, 1-3 from 3, 11-13 free throws, 14 rebounds, 3 steals

It might be time to bring Luke back up, because he is completely dominating the D-League. He's getting to the line, rebounding well for his position and already seems like the go-to man for the Stampede. But if he continues to stay down there, all we can hope for is for more outings like the one he put forth last night.

I am glad he is at least getting some floor time somewhere he is a great player but unless we trade him, Batum, Roy, or Wallace; Babbitt won't see many minutes in the NBA. The 3 ahead of him allow no play time for a 4th small forward. I say trade Roy to the Wizards for J. Mcgee and a 1st rounder, or to Phoenix for Marcin Gortat and Arron Brooks and a 2nd rounder.

nicely done. but for the once "best shooter on the team" dubbed by his teamates, i would like to see him more dead on from deep.
any word on his 3pt%/ how many shots has he taken from deep since he has been back, and how many has he landed?

I must wonder, after what I saw last night, why Portland drafted Babbit in the first round. He didn't look too good against the Warriors. I know it only 1 game, and he didn't have the most talent around him, but he trouble making open lay-ups. Can he dunk? He doesn't seem to have any above the rim game, at least in this league. In short, he needs allot of work.

Im not impressed with Gortat. Everyone wants him but he seems mediorcre to me. He is the most realistic option since all it would take is the 10th pick, but I think he is old and declining.
