Get me Deron Williams. Mr. Allen, dig into your pocket this one last time. Pay the kid next year. You'll make back what you spend in the first year. We need a fearless point. CP3 is just too small. Make it happen. I guarantee you second round and beyond.

Personally since right now we have only 3 people at the 4 and 5 positions if I was to spend any money it would be on  Dwight Howard. He is a proven center a bonified All Star and a GUARANTEED championship with our talent here. I mean my gosh Portland is the home of Nike for crying out loud they should be able to help do something. Am I giving up on Oden, probably, will Oden play up to his potential? maybe? Is he an injury away from a career ending injury? Likely, Do we have 17 talented point guards scattered across the world waiting for them to develop, yes we do. we also have one very talented vetren PG playing right now. With Dwight Howard,Lamarcus and Wallace/Batum our front court would be the absolute best in the NBA. It would be better than the lakers if he went there with their lineup. you could also have a 5'6" fat guy as your PG (a.k.a. me) and still win the championship. With an All Star Center we will win a championship with an All Star PG we will not, Dont take my word for it ask Jerry Sloan.

I don't really see how Portland can woo Dwight Howard but would love to see him come play here.  And how does Nike HQ being here help in any way shape or form??

Endorsements....  Also, Howard SHOULD want to come play on such a stacked team with a rabid fanbase, unfortunately players don't see how great playing for Portland is until they get traded here and have to play, then they wish they had come sooner.

So the implication is that Nike would try to help attract a player to Portland by dangling the endorsement carrot?  First, is there any precedent for this kind of thing happening before?  Doesn't seem to me that the league would stand for that kind of "bribery".  Second, Howard is already in bed with Adidas.

its not bribery.  Nike endorses players.  Nike's HQ is in Portland.  Player is closer to HQ.  Makes sense, your posts seem so pessimistic and antagonistic so often

I think you miss my point.  The original statement was

I mean my gosh Portland is the home of Nike for crying out loud they should be able to help do something.

Sure they could offer an endorsement deal to an NBA player or anybody else on the planet they care to.  But not as some sort of enticement to lure a player to a particular professional team.  So no.  Nike cannot help get a player to Portland.  Get it?  Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

I don't think you guys get that we're not allowed to sign anyone for over $6M (the MLE) if we're over the cap (which we are by about $15M).  We're not going to be able to sign anyone like a dwight howard or deron williams, and neither is NY, LAL, MIA, or any team of that caliber. (Unless you do what the Heat did last year and clear you're whole team and get lucky)

Well who knows what will happen with the new CBA.  But even in light of that I don't see it as very likely.

OK look it is pretty simple actually. Paul Allen goes to Nike, who is a Billionaire by the way, asks for a meeting of the CEO and board members of Nike. Now me and you could not get this meeting but I am pretty sure Paul Allen could. Are you with me so far? He tells them I would like to bring Dwight Howard to Portland, you know home of Nike, would you like to endorse a major NBA star. Now they endorse MANY athletes, but none of them in their own town. Football owners get these guaranteed endorsements for their players all the time this is how they get players under the cap. It is a win win situation, Nike ends up looking like a small town shoe company (kind of a homey feel) while taking Portland out of the small market team and putting them on the map of teams to go to. I am sure there are legal issues to deal with but that is why we have lawyers. The ad campaign on this would bring enormous revenue to Nike, to Portland and to the Trailblazers. As far as Dwight Howard goes he gets his world wide recognition, more so than what he already has, he gets to be the player that takes Portland out of obscurity, and he gets the championship. Money he can get anywhere, he gets that and more here. This is something that no one else can really offer him.

Football owners get these guaranteed endorsements for their players all the time

Would you renegotiate your contract for a chance at a 3 peat for the NBA championship? Personally I dont think Broy would have a choice LA might not have to, Wallace's contract is up soon he has been playing with the Bobcats for how many losing seasons he is a shoe in.

MY lord man do you listen to any sports shows? when they say that a person is making 35 million dollars in money and ENDORSEMENTS. Michael Jordan advertised everything from batteries to friggin hotdogs do you think hanes underwear said hey you are such a good actor we want you to advertise our tighty whiteys? its called guaranteed endorsements.

I'd like to keep Nate as Coach, and we really don't need any whiney baby's on this team.

How 'bout we keep Miller, and forget about Deron Williams for now.

I agree with u tobyus, Miller might not be who we WANT but we rarely want what we need. Right now he is the PG we need

@Tobyus. me too.  I think Nate has done a good job with all of the adversity he has had to deal with and think he could do more with a healthy squad.  And I think Miller still has a couple of good years left in him.  He isn't as athletic as a lot of younger PGs are but his basketball IQ is huge and he has learned to play very craftily.

@ barnettfan. You are losing me.  Sure I know that professional athletes do product endorsement all the time.  But I think we are talking apples and oranges.  Stating  players' annual gross incomes expressed as money + endorsements is two separate things.  Money from a sports contract.  Endorsements from products represented.
Michael Jordan advertised everything from batteries to friggin hotdogs do you think hanes underwear said hey you are such a good actor we want you to advertise our tighty whiteys? its called guaranteed endorsements.
Of course Jordan didn't get his Nike and Hanes endorsement deals because he is a good actor!   Nor did he get those deals as any part of his contract with the Bulls.  He got it because he was a phenomenal athlete and extremely popular!  Likewise, nobody is going to put together a deal to sign with the Blazers that includes a Nike contract.  Those are completely separate agreements and sources of income!  That is where I do not think we are talking about the same thing.

Siccolo, did you mean heavier or lighter? I don''t think Noel will do well in the league. If he stays healthy long enough, he might be a half decent starter, if not, Greg Oden.
