PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Trail Blazers have signed center Jarron Collins to a 10-day contract, it was announced today by General Manager Rich Cho.

Collins, 32, holds career averages of 3.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 15.9 minutes in 537 games (216 starts) with Utah, Phoenix and the L.A. Clippers. He appeared in 23 games this season for the Clippers, posting averages of 0.7 points, 0.7 rebounds and 6.8 minutes.

A 10-year NBA veteran who played collegiately at Stanford, Collins (6-11, 249) spent the 2009 preseason with the Trail Blazers, averaging 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 14.0 minutes in four games.

The Trail Blazers roster stands at 14 players with today’s signing.

A Backup 5! Good news. I have not heard if the 32-year-old will play vs HOU, but it's hard not to get a little excited to see this. A Veteran center who can fill in that middle.

Breathe a little sigh of relief.

I'd say he's pretty comparable to Marks, maybe a better defender/rebounder and less of a shooter, but hopefully he'll get the job done. He did a decent job for Phoenix against us in the playoffs last year.

He will at least be able to give Camby some relief which I think is most important right now.  It will be a while before he can put in the big minutes that he was before the injury.

I wish the heat would believe in giving guys 10 day contracts. Good move for blazers though, they NEEDED a center. I wouldn't be surprised if they sign another body before playoff time for insurance.

I won't complain about this since I think having Collins to backup Camby is better than having Batum or Wallace playing center but I think we should have tried to get Leon Powe

Nah uhhh a defensive center, a backup big either position I don''t care, an experienced wing, without having to give up any draft picks. I''d probably do this but I just don''t know for sure.

I completely agree he could be that voice on the court we need. Lamarcus just isn''t that guy and Damian can learn some on court leadership from him. A small lineup when we need a score bad of Dame, Wes, Paul, Nic, and Lamarcus would be potent.

I mean Damian might have not even been in the same area as them when it happened. Innocent until proven guilty

I would agree Harris seems more dynamic but Harkless looks pretty good as well.
