Raise your hand if you saw this one coming. Anyone?

If you haven't heard already, according to numerous reports, the Nets have agreed to send Devin Harris, who the Trail Blazers were rumored to have interest in, and rookie Derrick Favors and two first-round picks to the Jazz in exchange for Deron Williams.

It was rumored that Williams had become unhappy in Utah, which reportedly was one of the reasons longtime Jazz coach Jerry Sloan stepped down a few weeks ago, and the conventional wisdom seems to indicate that, rather than get into a protracted negotiation similar to what we saw with the Nuggets and Carmelo Anthony, the Jazz decided to pull the trigger on a trade while the getting was good. Harris is a former all-star and Favors might have more upside than any of his fellow rookies. The first-round picks also give the Jazz, a financially conservative organization, some future flexibility.

What does this mean for the Trail Blazers? Is the Northwest Division now up for grabs, with both the Nuggets and Jazz trading away their best players? Do these moves breath new life into these teams? Do these moves make it more or less important for the Trail Blazers to make a trade before the deadline?

Very depressing news.  Two point guards just taking off the trading block and we're stuck with old Andre Miller.  If Cho doesn't make a deal, it's obvious that he's either a horrible GM or he is content with mediocrity and first round exits from the playoffs.

I is the time to KEEP together what we have, see how Roy and Camby respond after their injuries and finally let this team play together as we move towards the post season. We now have a great opportunity to even win the division or at least place second. Chemistry is a huge thing and let's not mess that up now ;-)

    peace out,

Maybe you want to see the Trail Blazers make a trade. That's understandable. But for me, I think it's great that, in an age where players are forcing their teams to trade them, that no one on this Trail Blazers team wants to be traded. That's got to count for something.

this was clearly just a cockblock move...  they just wanted to hate on portland and steal away who we were interested in....  but thats kool... in the process the not only got rid of their head coach but also their only great player.... devin harris is good but favors is still a work in progress...

I agree to a point.  I also feel like the Blazers are where old players go to retire.

Wow, they let D-Will go pretty cheaply if you ask me. I don't think Favors will ever live up to the #2 pick billing and Harris is an average-above average point guard at the moment. What I like best about this trade is that not only are the Jazz done, but the Nets forced the Knicks to grossly overpay for Melo, who would have signed there in the offseason, and ended up with the better player in Williams. Man, the East is loading up on talent right now.

Also, does this make Paul Millsap available? Utah could be in cost-cutting mode and they already have Okur, Jefferson and now Favors, so he would seem to be a viable option.

Gotta say I was shocked just now, as I saw the ESPN home page with the headline! Wow! I agree with Casey, it is refreshing that in an age where players are forcing their teams to trade them (pretty sad if you ask me, takes a lot away from the decency of the game, though I don't know how much was left) that we have a group of guys that is not involved with any of that talk. Of course there are going to be fights or disagreements, which is only natural, but it is great to know that our guys, given what they've been through the last few seasons, are sticking with it and of course, the management as well, thus far.

When i saw this this morning, I actually was happy. Now Dre has driven me nuts at times, but with the winning streak and the fact that like it was said earlier, the division got easier now, I think we stay with what we got. And with Roy and Camby coming back, I believe that it could be almost the same effect as a trade.

This is a bummer. I was secretly hoping we could pull off a miracle this year, or when Williams' contract was up, and get him here. Obviously, that was a crazy idea, but I had hope. Doubtful that he'll leave the Nets right when they move to Brooklyn.

I was also pretty high on Harris. I really thought he'd be a better fit than Dre. I understand everything that Dre does for this team (not the least of which is play every game), but I think he holds us back also. I think we can only go so far with him at the helm, and he's not getting any younger. Our best players are getting older, and who knows how much longer Roy could go?

Casey, it does count for me that players want to play here, but where are Blake? Webster? Udoka? Frye? I loved all those guys. Sometimes it's about where they can take you.

Also, I kind of think Dre wants to be traded. Remember his comments about not caring? I think he really likes his teammates, but I'm not so sure he's that into our system, or our city. Obviously I don't know for sure, but that's how I see it, and since Dre doesn't say anything (actually kind of like that attitude about him), my ideas probably won't change. I'm open to different opinions certainly, but I'm have watched and read a ton of stuff about the team for the past several years, so it's unlikely that I'll be presented with new information unless it comes from someone within the team. Someone like you, Casey, but it seems like there's a code that you don't discuss certain things, and I respect that.

I feel bad for Camby. I know he didn't want to go anywhere. If he's traded, I hope he's traded to a contender.

We're in a weird place as a team. We're not going to win the title with this lineup, and a few of our guys are close to done. The rest haven't yet hit their prime. Trades can help us get guys closer to the rest of the team's age, and maybe get a little more talent that might help us contend for a title. Trades aren't necessarily a bad thing.

Before judging the length of this, know that it is 10:01am, and I didn't just wake up. I am still up.

Didn't see this one coming. More proof that the Quick is clueless as to what Cho has up his sleeve.
24 hours to go, if  I were Cho, I would tell Quick I was standing pat too.

Just an upgrade over Marks is all the team needs. Fingers crossed it still happens.

Obviously it benefits the short term and not the long term.  Which frankly I don't mind.  Because I'm alive right now and ENJOYING what I'm seeing from this team.

I do think it's amusing that the Jazz killed any chance at this trade for us.  Vindictive!  As to Deron Williams?  The guy is ego manifested in human form and a primadonna ta' boot.  He will be chewing up lesser teams and spitting them out until he ends up on a genuine contender, likely burning a lot of bridges along the way.  He's already going to be seen as the player they shoved Sloan out the door.  Coaches are gonna' remember that for as long as he's in the league.

i'm glad to see that our guys want to stay here and play together. it's great to have notable stats and all that, but chemistry is much more difficult to attain. we're also fortunate to have a group of guys who want to make each other better.

i don't think Andre was in a not caring mode (if he didn't care about the guys, he wouldn't have defended LaMarcus against the all-star snub -- which possibly could have resulted in a fine). I think he was more preparing himself for the possibility of being traded. i don't think you can blame the guy given all the rumors which have been swirling around involving his name. i do disagree with those who say he's too old or he's not a major piece to the puzzle, at least in the short term. Andre makes his teammates better (ask LaMarcus about that one if you don't believe me). yes, he will move on one day, but he's got a few years left and hasn't suffered any career-shortening injuries (he's missed six games in his career -- only three to injury). whether we sign him at the end of the season (team choice) will remain to be seen, but any talk about trading Andre between now and tomorrow will only be talking a trade to make a trade. that's not what we want.

i honestly am sick of Quick's "inside" reports from unnamed "sources." i don't personally know the guy, but as time moves on, it seems more and more of the sources he quotes are from the voices inside his head.

@Andrew: agreed, getting Marcus and Brandon back will be like getting a great deal from a trade.

i dont see how anyone can raise their hand for that.
Yeah it was known DMW wasnt happy, but really is going the Jersey Shore finna be an upgrade?
I mean forget the teams that you have been playing with in your DIV, forget the methods you know on how to beat those teams......let me go try my luck with Jay Z and we can ball against Melo and Amare'.

I dont get that one.I mean does Portland need to go to a Conflict Negotiations Class or are they trying to fail at every trade?
I wish i worked for this franchise during HS i would of had the best excuses for not getting my HW done. Like Grow a pair, go out there and get what you want. Or forever hold your peace yo.

I totally agree.  The fact that we have a group of guys who want to stay in Portland says a lot about the team and their fans.  Some people may only care about wins and championships but I personally also would like to have a team of involved players.  I grew up with Porter, Drexler, Kersey, Williams, Duckworth, etc.  I don't to go back to a bunch of thugs with good stats.  I'd rather have a well rounded team of guys who care about the city they are playing for.  I also believe that this team is fully capable of going places, we just need players to be healthy.
