    From Philly.Com
HOUSTON - A Western Conference source said that the Portland Trail Blazers are said to be looking at Sixers forward/center Marreese Speights.

As a proposed trade, the Blazers offered forward Dante Cunningham, a Villanova product, as well as a second-round draft pick.

The Sixers do not appear to be interested in such a move.

No real surprise. Portland probably wanted to see what the market value was on Cunningham and tried to see if they could get an improvement. I think it would take a 1st round pick instead of a 2nd round pick to get it done, but at that price, it wouldn't be worth it. Dante is improving and we can always draft another backup PF if we feel the need to.

It doesn't hurt to see what we can get for him, but he fit so well with our team and I think it would not be a great move because I think we haven't  seen the full potential of Dante.

I'm in the middle for this one. He's a bigger body than Dante Cunningham however defensively, Dante has the edge slightly.

Dante is one of our best hustle players.  He can go back to PF when JP comes back next season.  Why would we need to trade him?  Rich Cho scares me...

This "rumor" disappoints me if it is true. Dante has been a solid force for us and plays hard every game. How I pray that Rich and crew do not pull the trigger on any stupid moves now, especially since things are starting to click. I think this team deserves a chance to play together "healthy" before any moves are made...and I also mean waiting on Oden one last time!

    peace out,

DC is worth substantially more in a Blazer uniform than would come back in any proposed trade.  D, you hit the nail on the head.  Should this rumor be accurate, I would bet Cho had a "Gone Fishin" sign hanging on his door during that negotiation.

Speights only plays like 5 minutes a game. We don't need any tubby, out of shape guys on our team. Especially not a straight up trade for our masked avenger.

DC should not be trade bait.  In years past it was disappointing watching similar small bigs go to teams while young and then flourish.  I'd much rather see guys grow here.  Truthfully though, Dante has more potential than any other player in the trade rumor mill in Portland.  Dishing him is not a long term solution to anything.  Not in the slightest.  And I'm not even that partial to the guy as far as player endearment goes.  Losing him will absolutely not make sense without huge returns.

I don't see the point unless we're just looking for someone more suited to play the 5 that can also play the 4. If that's what we're looking for, it's too bad we didn't just keep Channing Frye instead of just letting him walk. He could have come in handy here this year.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
