Last season, around this time, on NBA.com I asked if the Blazers can win 50 games.  I was called an idiot quite often, and sure enough, we won exactly 50.  It was nice to brag about my prediction, that's for sure.

Now, people take me more seriously on NBA.com, and people are hovering around 46-48 wins this season.

I know I'll get maybe more biased answers here, since you all are Blazer fans, but it's a nice topic to bring up.

Remember, the question is WILL they win 50 games.  It's not "can".  I don't want to hear any "ofc they can!" type of replies.  I want to hear a yes or no.  Will they, or will they not win 50 games.  Basically, I'm asking for your prediction.

However, in my second question, of "Can" they get homecourt advantage, obviously, there really isn't a prediction since we're 6th and need 4th, but we're only about 1.5 games in the win column behind NOLA (who is playing Phoenix tomorrow, and Phoenix has been playing fairly well recently).  They also play us on Wednesday, their second night of a back to back on the road.  Works well in our favor, since we know Phoenix likes to run, and that could tire the Hornets.

Also, OKC is only 4 games ahead of us, but has played 2 less games.  OKC is 4th seed.

    Your thoughts?

I say they win 50, exactly, and I say they get 5th seed against OKC and win the series.

I would agree with the 5th seed being a "best-case" scenario, however, I don't see KD losing that series.  Portland doesn't have an answer for Westbrook either.

That said, I would prefer to wait until after the deadline passes before making any predictions.

I say no, disappointingly close, like 49 games. And we get the 7th seed and beat the Mavs in 7.
Why? because the Mavs have been faltering lately in the playoffs, and this team seems like a giant-killer. LaMarcus has played even better than usual against good opponents, like he did against Chicago and San Antonio.

That being said, I don't think we get out of the second round.

Why not 8th seed and Spurs for the beginning? I wouldn't be surprised if we could beat that team in 6 or 7 games.
But I also agree that it's better wait until trade deadline to make any predictions.

lol, we're not going to beat the spurs in the first round if we get paired vs them... Duncan and Ginobili getting old. They want and need another championship before they're too old. I think us beating the spurs is out of the question unless we have a HEALTHY CONDITIONED roy.

It all depends on the play on Brandon Roy...  If he can play near his old self we will win over 50.  to get to 50 wins they need to go 19-8, and I think that's a pretty good chance with camby and roy back (unless somebody get injured again)I don't think we're gonna beat out OKC for the division though so I think we will end up 5th or 6th.

I'm curious to why people think we're going to be 7th or 8th.  We're tied with Utah now, and if we win 1 more game against them, we win the series 3-1, meaning if we tie with them, we are the higher seed.  Denver on the other hand is most likely losing Melo, and even with Melo has been struggling as of late.  Melo is all-talk when he said he will resign with Denver.  He's trying to get the Knicks to make a move asap.  His play has been stat pad play, not team win play.

Utah also lost Jerry Sloan, their superweapon.  Sloan is the type of guy that can take average players and make them seem great.  I don't think Utah can be a top seeded team without Sloan, or much of a threat without Sloan.

To me, the only reason we wouldn't be OKC is the officiating.  I know you all don't like Blazer fans complaining about refs, but you all saw how the first two meetings were in the closing minutes...

No, the reason we wouldn't beat OKC is because they have the best player in the NBA and we don't have an answer for him or Russel Westbrook. When KD scores 30 or more points, they are 18-4. Thats ridiculous.  And you know he's going to bring it in the playoffs.

That being said, its not impossible. Just not likely.  And maybe we do get the 5 or 6 seed, who knows? But that begins with a lot of things happening that we don't know if they are going to happen.

and just to be technical, even if we were the fifth seed, we wouldn't place OKC. Division winners automatically get a top three seed... so it sucks for Dallas because even though they're the second best team record wise... they will get the four seed if the season ends like the standings are today. IM PRETTY SURE OF THIS BUT NOT POSITIVE... so we'd actually play dallas on the road if we had the fifth seed and the top four were how they are now... But as of now we are the 6th seed and would play OKC (who would be #3 because division champs) and would have a shot, only if we slow down their top two scorers, which is very difficult

Kevin Durant the best player in the league?  You seriously buy that hype?  He's good, but he's not a LeBron or Kobe.  Also, he's been fairly quiet against the Blazers, it was Westbrook that torched us last time.  Put on Wesley Mathews and you're winning.  As much as we don't have answers for them, they don't have answers for us.

"Division winners automatically get a top three seed"

-No, you're completely wrong, there are 3 division and 3 division winnerbut division winners are only garanteed homecourt advantage (top 4 seed), so right now we would face OKC

but actually no we wouldn't play okc right now because we may be in fifth record wise, but exactly 14.5 games back, the exact same as, NO but they have beaten us two out of three.. So although they have one more win AND one more loss, we have a better winning %, but since each team plays the same amount of games, if you look at just if the season ended today, we'd be #6 in the west

Last I heard we have a better record this year at this point then last year. With the blazers finally coming together and the possibility of more players being back REALLY soon (Roy & Camby) I think the odds of getting 50 wins is very likely. Especially with Rudy, Batum, and especially mathews, all playing at the high level they are. However, getting 4th place for that home court might be out of reach at this point. It is still very possible, but not likely.

So will the blazers get 50 wins? Yes.
Will we get home court? Possible, But no.

Alright folks time to bring this thread up again.

I've done the Math, and calculated we need to go 17-7 in order to win 50 games.  That's 50-32.  Very possible with Roy and Gerald Wallace.  Also with Camby returning soon.  My guess is the limit on Roy will increase to 30 or will be gone.

So, here is the Blazers remaining schedule, and my predictions.

In 2009, the Blazers swept the month of April going into the playoffs. I say they repeat that.  However, I think they won't play starters/key players against Golden State due to it not mattering at all at the end of the season.

My prediction means they go 21-3.  I am iffy on certain games, obviously, and any team can win any game on any night.  But this team seems to be more on the uprise!

Also, as Jason Quick stated,  Joel plans on being bought out and returning to Portland by April.

I say we win exactly 50 still, because I'm not confident about some games, but I will be pretty surprised if we don't win 50.

I say we win exactly 50 still, because I'm not confident about some games, but I will be pretty surprised if we don't win 50.

i've been noticing a lot of multi responses on this site lately lol not sure whats up with that. But good call, i just think that finishing with only 3 loses the rest of the way is extremely difficult... but finishing 17-7 is a very realistic posibility

Well, I clicked once, but I normally double click anyways, which might have been the reason three were posted (I click fast so my mouse kind of spazzes out).  However I normally double click and it only posts one.

I don't think a 50 win season is going to happen, the rest of the schedule is pretty tough. I say we think we safely get 45 and maybe 47 at the most.

The Blazers have gone what 41-8? After the AllStar break over the past 2 years...This is realistic.

Hawes will be a hot commodity by the trade deadline, I would think the sixers could find a better offer.

However, I do believe Mo Williams could have somewhat of  a high trade value. Olshey needs to make a deal to get a big man while we...

Yeah and now Blazers have zero interest in Bynum. I really thought he was worth the small risk. If anything he would be at the end of our bench and we use him as a sub. Hopefully we do make some type of trade for a quality back up center. Right no...
