In his column on ESPN.com today entitled "Let's get these deals done" (it's an Insider article, you cheapskates), John Hollinger enlists the help of the Trail Blazers, along with the the Cavs, to get Carmelo Anthony out of Denver and into a Houston Rockets uniform. The story itself is behind the pay wall, but Hollinger's use of the trade machine is out there for all to see. Here's the trade.

I'll abbreviate it for you: the Trail Blazers trade Marcus Camby, Joel Przybilla, Rudy Fernandez, Sean Marks and Elliot Williams in exchange for Aaron Brooks and Jordan Hill from the Rockets, Antwan Jamison from the Cavs and (get ready for this) Chris "Birdman" Anderson and JR Smith from the Nuggets.

I  have to say that while I probably wouldn't make this trade considering it leaves us without a true starting center, it is an interesting idea in that it nets the Blazers a potential "point guard of the future", a dead-eye shooter in Smith (though he'll shoot you out of games as well), a premier shot blocker in Birdman and a cagey vet in Jamison, all without giving up a core piece. It's an interesting idea/

What say you? I know the idea of JR Smith and the Birdman playing in Portland is enough for most of you to write off the deal entirely, but to make an omelet, you gots to destroy some eggs.

Call me crazy, but I think it's a good deal for the Blazers (on paper). Tats or not, Chris Anderson is a serviceable center for the rest of the season. Also, anytime you get one of the top 3 best players in the deal (Aaron Brooks), you're doing something right. Brooks not only fits the bill as the long sought after PGOTF, but he would fit in nicely with his ability to get to the rack, hit open jumpers, and find ways to get others involved. Although he'd improve our 3 point percentage, I'd look to ship J.R. Smith out ASAP.

I personally don't like the trade. Jamison would be great as our 6th man and he plays how Nate likes his 6th man. A stretch 4 and a big 3. However, I just don't like the idea of trading away both of our centers...plus we're adding JR Smith and that just makes the whole soup taste like urine.

Camby would probably threaten retirement or fake an injury to keep the deal from going through. Too many player's involved to be easy, and we would be collecting all the unmovable pieces in the league so don't expect to ship many of them back out for more than a second round draft pick. Hill is still a project piece in his 3rd or 4th year, birdman had one decent year, jamison is worse every year since he got Kevin Love type of respect in Washington. But all in all you're trading some decent players and some aging players for your pgotf (who's starting to show a star complex after coming back from an injury), but as long as you aren't taking on big contracts i'd go for it if we were going for rebuild status. I'm sick of hoping for injured players to come back strong, and being too afraid to trade them away.

Seeing Birdman in a Blazer uniform lol...

I love that freak but I don't think my psyche could handle it.  The worst part about what Portland will have to do if they want to make trades is kick around guys that are getting old in age and just want to ride out their careers playing on a good team with good people.

I know it's about the team and the organization but seeing Rudy get comfortable in Portland and Camby movin' his family here.  I dunno' how people make the decision to uproot families and toss people around the country.

I have a hard time seeing any team taking Camby, Przybilla or Rudy.  I can't imagine any of those guys hangin' around in the league too long after a trade.  Joel talking about retirement fairly recently, Camby content to end his career here and Rudy just over the last month finally finding a real home in Portland and with the Blazers.

I dunno'.  The trade doesn't disgust me as much as most but something still doesn't feel good about it.  Must be my stupid conscience!

    It would never work.
The fans would assasinate Smith the moment he stepped on the floor.
Birdman, i think, is a great Role player, he is a total fan favorite (just not blazer fans) he gets the crowd into it.
Jamison is a dope player, a little short, but with some good moves inside and down low, and he has a 3 ball.

But for all those people who are like " Keep Aldridge, Wesley and Batum, Trade everyone else" (as retarded as that sounds) this is probably the best trade idea for that group of fans.

however i would NOT make this trade.

Include Camby on that list, and I'll definitely like this trade.

...oh no. I change my mind, after seeing that Rudy is included in that trade. Maybe don't include Rudy, and JR Smith on the opposite side of the equation, and that would be a trade.

But I still like to have Mike Conley on this team.

An untradeable Smith would represent the end of coach McMillan here in P'town.

Not a fan of Brooks as the PGOTF

As much as I love to hate Anderson, he would be a nice piece.  We will need an "enforcer" type with Joel gone.

Have always loved Antawn.  He's a Carolina product!

Verdict still out on Arizona's Jordan Hill

...would rather see Melo head east

Wouldn't mind trying to get Brooks from Houston AND keep Andre.  Maybe Przybilla, pick, plus.....

This would be a terrible trade. Why in the hell would we trade BOTH Camby AND Pryz without getting a center? And I don't exactly like Brooks, he seems to have an underlying attitude problem and doesn't seem to want to do what it takes to win if it is not his way. And JR Smith is an absolute idiot who is not worth it because more than half the time he is a liability unless he's draining threes. The Birdman is an ok piece to have, but not what this is asking for.

Hmmm, this is a very interesting trade.  I'd say no, simply because we're rolling right now... I honestly would probably take it, but I'd have to ponder it for ages.

On paper, that's a great deal for the Blazers.  The only player the team would miss, winning wise, is Marcus Camby, and Birdman is NOT the guy we need to fix our center problem.  I love Oden, and think he'll come in strong, but you can't bank on him AND Birdman being healthy.

Also, JR Smith and Birdman have HORRIBLE reputations here in Oregon.  They don't have the attitude that most Portland fans want, and their recent attitudes towards the Blazers make people want to hang them.

On paper, I think I would make this trade.  However, on the court, I think we'd need to look to trade JR Smith as soon as we acquired him.
